How do you change the hard drive icon picture in the top right corner to look like the macbook pro computer? I've seen this on a couple people's desktops and was just wondering how you do it. Also, how do you change the folder icon to something that looks cooler.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
I tried to turn on my mac book and the center of the screen is just a folder with a question mark.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my white MacBook (OS X 10.5) with a new MacBook.
In the old dock:
I had created a folder within the HD called "launcher"--so it would appear at the top of the list. I created a custom icon for the folder, created an alias on the desktop. I then put the alias in the dock. When I would click on the folder it would open like stacks.
New dock:
If I do the above process, the folder opens as a finder window--no more stacks. If I pull the folder directly to the dock, without creating the alias, the folder opens as a stack, but the icon is gone and replaced with the generic folder icon.
Is there a way to have a custom icon and have the stack/folder open as stacks? I don't like the option of putting a image file as the first item in the folder because then the "icon" that appears is smaller and in front of the folder I hate.
According to my lil bro, the computer landed screen down. Now whenever he tries booting his Mac, a folder icon appears on the screen and the HDD makes a continuous skipping noise. I'm guessing a new HDD will fix the problem?

I dropped my MacBook from a fairly low height the other day. Now when it boots up, the Flashing Folder-? Icon pops up. bummer. I've read around and tried everything I can find to try. I've read over posts such as: [URL]. Nothing works. My only problem is that I can't get it to boot the DVD startup disk at all. Everything I try ends with the disk being kicked out of the drive, or spinning for a while and then doing nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhite MB about three years old. Was watching something on Hulu and HDD started making strange noises and screen froze. Forced reboot and only got white screen. Couldn't even get into single user mode. Got a new WD hard drive thinking it would fix the problem. Put in my backup of the Install Disk (lost the original like an idiot) but all it shows when I hold down the C key is a large blinking folder icon with a question mark on it. Still can't get into single user mode. I may have screwed up the backup of the Install Disk or am using the wrong DVD since I forgot to label it.

I've read all the proposed answers for enlarging text in the body of emails and none work for me. I have tried dragging the small a-large A icon to the taskbar but clicking it does nothing. In fact, none of the icons are functional. I can enlarge the text so it's readable (18 pt. or so) but then the recipient gets an email with overly enormous text. I only want to VIEW the text larger, say, 50% larger, because IT'S SO SMALL IT'S A STRAIN TO VIEW IT.

am using a Rev A MBA, and I just noticed that after the 10.5.6 update, I have lost the functionality of the pinch gesture when trying to enlarge/reduce icons ? both on the desktop and finder. Still works in all other areas like photos or webpages.
Anybody else notice this?

When I select a picture to save, it brings up the 'save' box, but takes a short time to allow me to do anything while it compiles a list of files under the 'places' tab on the left. I wouldn't normally mind this, but it takes about 30 seconds or so, and as far as I can see (through searching in the finder), all of these files were deleted a long time ago. Is there any way I can clear this list, or if they are still on my Macbook, how can I find them!
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn Windows, you can use the photos within a folder as the folder icon. This makes it easy for visual artists to quickly find a work. Is there any way to do this on the Mac through a preference selection. I have hundreds of folders containing paintings and this was a helpful feature of windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYou know how in your users folder you have a lot of folders (named Downloads, Documents, Music, Movies, etc), they have icons on them. How can I attach one of them to a regular folder? And also changed a folder icon totally? I know for folder changing CandyBar can do it, was just hoping there is something more practical in the OS for that
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a .PNG icon, and I would like to assign it to a folder, so the folder icon would be this one (It's a snow flake, which at first glance, makes me think of Winter Quarter for school, aka, the folder name.)
I know how to assign the icon to the folder, without any problems. (Right Click-->Get Info-->And drag the icon to the Top Left). However, when the icon (which is transparent, I'm 120% sure) is displayed, the background is white. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, except the icon also appears on my Finder sidebar, since it's a folder I use a lot.
Using Icon Composer (/Developer/Applications/Utilities), I tried making it an icns, just to see what would happen. But, like most icons I've tried, this appears when I drag it. And I assure you, this is not the icon I'm trying to make the folder appear as:
So, my question is, how do I transform this transparent PNG icon to be transparent when it's assigned as an icon for a folder. Incase it matters, the icon is 256x256, with a 72 pixels/inch Resolution. I've tried playing with the sizes a lot, and I believe I read somewhere that the resolution actually matters for OSX to take the icon.
Working with OSX Mavericks 10.9.1. Can't update b/c I'm not an admin.
We know how to make a new folder, and then change its icon by going into the Get Info panel, and dragging an object on the desktop into that upper section.
When we do this with a jpeg, what happens is that the icon of the new folder becomes the default icon for a jpeg. Is there any way to change the folder icon into the thumbnail of that specific jpeg?
Bit of a newbie here with my MBP. I imported my photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, but they don't show up in Places. I wasnt connected to the internet at the time. Will this matter? What am I doing wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am getting these black border boxes around my web pages, text input boxes, around some of the icons on my desktop, widgets, and small sections of different websites around the screen.
When I typed this message there was a box around the text input section, after I scrolled down the box stayed in the middle of my screen (this time not around a particular section). All the other stuff on the screen scrolled up and the box remained in the same place.
