MacBook Pro :: Having Coloured Vertical Lines?

I've been having this problem for the last few weeks intermittently, and occurs whenever I bring my Macbook Pro (17 5,2 10.6.4) awake from sleep, or sometimes just when I switch it on.

It is a bit difficult to describe, so here is a picture:

I have to hard-reset the laptop to fix this each time...

Do I need to send it away for repairs or is this something that I could fix myself?

Whenever I try to start up my mac book pro I get coloured lines going down the screen. It then just shows me a large image of the power button with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button" I then do this and the same happens again and I go no further.

MacBook Pro :: Red Vertical Lines On Screen?
I just had a hinge replaced on first generation 15" unibody(2008) model. Get home and I have red vertical blotches on screen. The red blotches are worse when there is black. I don't have applecare so I'm going to a local guy. The screen had stopped working because of hinge. I bought the hinge on ebay and didn't end up needing it but now my display is screwed. Should I replace inverter cable?

MacBook Pro :: Vertical Lines Throughout External Screen
Hi I'm connecting an external monitor to my macbook pro and am experiencing regular vertical lines throughout the external screen. I've tried DVI-D and VGA. I've tried changing resolutions. I have taken a screen shot of the monitor but this screen shot shows a clear image. Attached is a picture of what it looks like. Hard to spot as taken with my isight. (Ignore the cable hanging down).

I've had it sent into Apple once for the horizontal flashing lines, but these are new... it's like a gray vertically striped film covers the whole screen, and unlike the horizontal lines, shaking/hitting the screen does not help.

MacBook Pro :: Vertical Lines On LCD Screen?
For the past few days, my screen has been going in and out of being entirely covered by 1px white lines that occasionally flicker blue or something. Like, when I'm typing (as I am now) if the window is positioned one pixel off, the blinking cursor won't appear (and on my black screensaver, it looks more like it's white/light grey because literally every other 1px line is white). Well, this morning it got weird again, but it hasn't gone back to normal!

I have a Mid-2007 Santa Rosa Macbook Pro, 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo- LED Screen, backlight works fine and if I turn it completely down ('off') the problem persists. I have Boot Camp installed, and the problem persists when booting into Windows as well.

I looked around and tried a few fixes to no avail (slept the screen, reset the PRAM, messed with the resolution a bit).

I took a screenshot and everything shows up normal. I had to finish a paper I was working on, and the screen was getting unbearable, so I tried plugging it into a mate's external lcd and the image came up completely fine, no vertical lines!

So, what could this be, and what could I do to fix it? Could this be the infamous problem with the Nvidia 8600GT M graphics card- so would I have to get the logic board repaired!? (UGH I hope not) Could it just be a connection issue? I did install a new hard drive, a new stick of memory, and Leopard, but that was months ago! Anything else I might be missing? and I hope this problem isn't too serious!

P.S.-on a side-note, has anybody done the upgrade to the latest firmware for the fans (SMC something)? Should I give that a try (or should I do it anyway, regardless of whether it could help)? When it was released, I heard of some bad experiences, so I stayed away.

MacBook Pro :: Getting Blue Vertical Lines All Over That White On The Screen?
My screen always showed blue vertical lines on anything that is white on my Macbook Pro screen, but when I moved the screen back and forth a few times the blue lines just gone. It always happens when I took the Macbook Pro from a bag and waked it up and once and a while during normal usage. I took picture when the blue lines happen but I couldn't post it on the forum.

MacBook Pro :: Vertical Colored Lines Popped Up On Screen
So tonight I was DJing a gig at my friend's house and four, vertical, colored lines popped up on my screen and won't go away. I tried taking a screen-cap for you guys, but nothing came up on it... which makes me fear that it's a problem with the LCD, itself. Is there any way I can get these lines to go away without having to send it in, or do I have to bring it in and have it looked at. Is it safe to use in the meantime?

When I boot into Linux or Windows the same problem appears, so it's probably a hardware problem.

I have no expensive adaptor to connect to an external lcd screen, so I don't know yet if the problem is in the mac screen or in the cabling or somewhere else...

Here are 2 screenshots of black squares a drawed in Illustrator, one taken on the mac (cmd + shift + 3)

MacBook Pro :: 15" Screen Has Vertical Blue Lines?
I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2010) 2.53GHz Interl Core i5 running OSX Lion 10.7.4. Generally the computer and screen are in good condition and have had no damage. The screen has Vertical blue lines and there is a tint of blue generally. The startup apple grey screen however is perfect, it is only when it enters the login screen that the lines appear. All the colours are off. Other than these lines the computer works perfectly

The computer was used yesterday (09 June 2012) without a problem for approx 1hour. It was then left for the day indoors on a desk out of direct sunlight. The computer was switched on later that evening and the problem started to appear I have already tried to reset the PRAM and SMC with no affect.

I also read that it may be a cable problem, however as the startup screen works perfectly i question this.

MacBook Pro :: Unibody 17inch Display - Vertical Lines And Artifacting
I bought my 17inch MBP at B&H in June (week before WWDC, D'oh) and it was working fine until I came over to Ireland to work on a editing job for the summer, as soon as I attached it via mini display to a second monitor I started getting artifacts and vertical lines in certain shades and colours on the macbooks display, its gradually gotten worse so much so in fact that it is nearly unusable. I have seen the thread about the firmware update, but my computer is already up to date with that but it still has this problem, I contacted apple and was told to take it to the apple store and the genius bar in Belfast, as helpful as the rep was he told me it would be two weeks for a repair, by replacing the logic board. Which I just can't do as I've only got three weeks left on the job and need my mac every day. I've searched and it seems no-one is having this problem except me since the firmware update, but clearly my machine still has problems.

Never had a problem with all my previous Mac's but I'm close to tossing this in the bin please help because if I can't get this solved I will have to move to PC and install my copy of AVID on it as this is the only other available computers at this production company. What to do? Has anyone else had this problem recently? Or know of a fix for it? I've tried everything downloaded the firmware told me its already installed, switched the graphics displays etc etc

MacBook Pro :: White Vertical Lines On 2010 13" Screen?
I've had my MBP for about 2 weeks and yesterday a white vertical line about an inch long appeared on the right edge of the screen.

It went away after a restart, so I thought nothing of it, but now another one has appeared. Picture:

They mostly appear only on the desktop, but occasionally crop up when I'm running apps.

Is this something I can fix or is it a video adapter issue? I have searched and come up with some similar motherboard issues but they are mostly older macs.

MacBook Pro :: Blue And Black Vertical Lines On Startup Then Freeze 10.7.3
I have a 2007 MacBookPro. shortly after installing Lion 10.7.3  and VectorWorks 2011 I started getting vertical blue and black lines across my screen on startup. They remain with in the apple while the computer boots and the everything freezes. I tried all of the usual fixes, recovery, safe boot, reset PRAM, battery, etc. When I tried to boot of a system disc I get a message sating that I need to restart my computer. Upon restart same problem occurs. 2 months ago I took the whole thing apart and cleaned out the guts.  Reconnecting all cables back together, I came across, what I think is the camera cable.  Since my camera has been erratic, i decided to test the problem with it connected and then disconnected. Connected same problem. Once i unplugged the camera everything went back to normal, until now. The same problem returned. I cleaned out the guts again. This time I unplugged the hard drive to try and boot off the C drive, but still get the same problem.  This morning It decided to boot up. I was able to copy my essential files onto an external drive.

MacBook Pro :: Display Not Working Fine / Vertical Washout Lines On Screen
I notice that when I move head back and forth from left to right while looking at the display, I notice faint vertical banding - it moves based on viewing perspective. It is most visible on a white screen, but still visible with colorful or busy screens.

I tried to take a video of it. Let me state these are not reflections, but appear to be some sort of faint washout that changes with perspective. It occurs when looking directly at the monitor and moving your head left/right, but was easier to video at an angle.

Are they using new panels in the latest versions or is this one just a dud?

MacBook Pro :: Will Not Start After Shutdown - Purple Vertical Lines Flickering On Screen
I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".

I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on.When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.

MacBook Pro :: Kernel Panic - All The Sudden Everything Freezes And Screen Starts Getting Vertical Lines
I would be working on my mac and all the sudden everything freezes and screen starts getting vertical lines and i have to force restart to fix it... a year ago i upgraded my ram to 4Gb but did not have a problem with it at all... read somewhere the kernel panic can be caused by RAM disconnect... so i opened up my laptop and took out and put back my ram. and everything was fine for 2 weeks. then now it started again and i did the ram trick again but the freeze happened the day after. it usually happens when i pick my laptop up... when i dont move it - it is all good... so i think it is ram... what can i do to fix it? and how can i check my RAM.

MacBook :: Vertical Lines Covering Half Of My Display?
My 2008 Penryn White Macbook siplays vertical lines and or vertical grey/black bars on 60% of the display. This happens from when it is powered on until and including when you arrive at desktop. The space the lines occupy does not increase or shrink, they have covered the area from the moment the problem arose.

it is not the common line issue that a Tiger update solved since this Macbook came with Leopard pre-installed. The lines are still there with the hard drive removed and they are still there when I booted a live Ubuntu CD, so I have ruled out software being the cause. Also I have ruled out inverter because I would not be getting any backlighting.

So....

To me that leaves:

-The LCD display panel itself (although there is no physical damage and it has never been dropped)

-The display data cable that connects LCD to the logic board

-GPU

OS X :: Stuck With Vertical Lines Across Screen At Start Up On MacBook
This is my first time having some serious problems with my first MacBook, and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. This macbook was bought on June 2006 (a white MB) with I believe the 10.4.6 OSX on. I gave it to my dad which is across the world and he called desperate a few days ago saying that the system won't boot up. When the power button is pushed on and the system starts, rings the Apple bell and soon after colorful vertical lines show up across the screen and the system freezes. Here's what I found out from my research on the topic, for some macs of that generation, when the system updates from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 some video card issue causes this glitch to happen. The solution: zap the PRAM (by holding control + command + p + r when booting the computer.) My dad has tried this approach many times and it doesn't solve it. We also tried booting it with the installation disc and that didn't work. We also tried the safe mode boot and that also didnt work.

MacBook Aluminum :: Screen Freezes And Filled With Vertical Lines
I had booted into vista and was updating it while reading about windows 7 and thinking what crap it is compared to my mac when the screen suddenly froze and it got filled with vertical lines of random colors. I rebooted my macbook several times but it didn't solve the problem. It did give the startup sound but vertical colored lies was all i could see. Then I resetted my pram, reset the logic board by removing the battery and pressing the power button for 5 seconds, no use! Upon calling Apple Care I was asked to take it to the service center. At the service center while my macbook was being checked I was busy thinking how this whole 'switching' to mac has been. I purchased my mac on July 8, 2008.

1. 10 days after purchasing my white fiber body macbook, the charger dies. I live in Mumbai, India's largest city but they have to make me wait for like a week until the new charger arrives from Banglore.
2. In September I see a dead pixel on the LCD. Apple says until there are atleast 5 they can't replace it!
3. In November the entire body begins to turn yellow. The bottom fiber body develops cracks. The place on the keyboard panel where the magnets connect breaks because of the magnet. Apple replaces the keyboard panel but refuses to change the bottom case saying that its not covered under warranty and that 'its written so' in the warranty (which isnt!).
4. In december I notice more dead pixels. Finally Apple arranges to send me a new macbook altogether. As the 2.4ghz white fiber body one I have gets out of stock and is no more in production they send me the late 2008 aluminum macbook 2.4ghz. wow! they also renew my warranty starting from december 08.
5. Yesterday, the vertical lines appear out of nowhere.

Accept for the fact that they sent me a much better laptop as a replacement, which shows that apple cares, the whole switching thing hasnt been really hassle free. I have come to realize that what makes apple so different is OS X and the design they give to their products. Its certainly not the hardware. Considering the fact that the charger went bad, the body turned yellow, the dead pixels on the LCD and now the vertical lines on the LED, I think apple hardware is no better than that of dell or sony. Infact, my Toshiba laptop that I'm on right now is older than my macbook(s) and hasn't faced a single hardware issue yet.

MacBook Air :: Screen Has Colored Vertical Lines And Freeze
I ordered a MacBook Air 11" with 1.6 GHz, 4GB ram and 128GB SSD. Every so often while using it, the screen has a ton of weird colors in vertical lines (extends the whole display) and the entire laptop has frozen. I have to force it off with the power button and reboot it. It happens at random times. Is this a symptom of overheating perhaps? I've done some research online and can't seem to find anyone else experiencing the same issue so I'm thinking I got a bad apple.

Before I take it in or send it in, I'm more or less wondering if someone knows what I'm talking about, like having happened on another model Mac and knows if it's due to overheating or something.

MacBook Aluminum :: Vertical Scan Lines Appeared - Screen Becomes Unusable
First off, It's been a long time (nigh on 7 years) since I used a mac laptop last, so I just wanted to make sure that it's not something I'm doing wrong. I just bought a brand spanking new Alu macbook online which arrived yesterday. Considering how much the thing cost I really AM hoping I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, there are points where the display appears to "White out". It fills with what look like vertical scan lines and fades to white. Before filling the screen with them, making it impossible to see. It looks kind of like a loose connection that I used to get on one of the really old models. Is there anything I can do or do I have to go and get my brand new laptop replaced on it's second day?

IMac Intel :: Vertical Lines - There For Sure
I want to share my success of getting iMac, that was demoed for a while, before I became user and warranty time started ticking for me. Initially unhappy to discover, that unit was on display at some computer shop (via traces of activities), I am now extremely happy to be found in position to be covered by 12 months warranty, once famous vertical lines issue is there, as it should (same unfortunate serial number). Only weeks were left for this joy to happen. On the other hand, I am posting this to encourage Apple looking at the essence of problem, and stop playing unaware - when the rest of the world knows issue very well, it would be surprising, that otherwise great company would behave like it does now.

If we, Apple users, are goodwilled to slightly overpay for our gadgets, surely we do this with trust in Apple as decent manufacturer of reliable equipment. If manufacturing turns out to have defects (having that for particular series is sure sign), we, users, and Apple are finding ourselves at crossroads: either our favorite company does right thing to protect our expectations, or we no longer expect equipment to be reliable, we though it should be. If my PC screens are more robust, than those in Mac, and if there is nobody to stand on our side in such discoveries - well, you got idea. Personally, I am happy to have warranty, as described. But it is only luck. One cannot expect be lucky all the time. Apple, please address issue as needed, I want to be able buying your next product.

It apppears at boot (the white screen) and continues through to the desktop, so it doesn't sound like there's a software issue. It's heading back to the Apple store, but - has anyone else seen this? This happened right after updating to 10.5.2 and installing the Leopard Graphics Update. I can't imagine that a software updated would have whacked the VRAM, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before the update.
