MacBook Pro :: Graphics Driver For Parallels Fedora Linux On New System?
May 26, 2010
I have installed Fedora 12 on my new 15" High Def Anti Glare MacBook Pro using Parallels. When Fedora runs, it runs in a small window in the center of the screen. I believe this is due to Fedora 12 not supporting the high def screen.
it is possible, but however some of the hardware features may not be supported by Fedora unless the Kernel can be patched such as back-light, iSight etc etc.
I'm currently looking to buy a new graphics card for my 2006 Mac Pro. I'm not going to be using OSX at all on the computer, only Windows/Linux, so I'm wondering what PC graphics cards I can use on if OSX drivers aren't an issue?
I've done a search and found a fair few answers, most of which have been more than a little contradictory and have got me somewhat confused. So any clear answer as to what's what on this would be much appreciated.
As a quick aside, just to explain why I'm doing this, in case anyone can think of a better idea, the situation is thus:
I work in VFX, primarily using Houdini. The main reasons to switch to Linux/Windows were OSX's lack of support for OpenGL 3 and 4 and the overpricing and unavailability of the new Ati 5870. Also Houdini is just that much snappier on Linux. So this mac pro is becoming a render/work box and I'm going to replace it for everyday stuff with a mac mini.
So I'm trying to manually update Graphics driver in Win7 32bit for the Macbook pro 13" mid 2010 version with the Nvidia 320M video card. I download and get this driver: 257.21_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql
But it doesn't help me at all, says it can't find any drivers compatible with my hardware, even though I selected all the right menus for my card. I'm trying to play this one game, but it's bugged and I figure if I install a driver that's 5 months more recent it might help.
I have just upgraded to Windows 8 and I get the following message when trying to start Windows 8. "Unable to load the Parallels driver / problem ID 352"...I have tried running the Disk repair permissions and disk utility permissions and reloading Parallels 7 as suggested by Parallels.I am running OS X 10.9.4
We are trying to install/update to the NVIDIA 270.00.00f06 driver for the PNY Quadro FX4800 for Mac on our MacPro 3,1 with OSX 10.7.4. The system tells us "No Driver Update Needed for this System", and will not allow driver to be installed. Can anyone advise if the current driver is automatically installed or provided by Apple Updates. If not can you provide proper instructions on how to properly update the driver. Also how can we confirm what driver version is currently installed.

I have a late 2009 27" iMac i7 with the Radeon 4850, I am running windows 7 64 bit on bootcamp for gaming. I was wanting to know if anybody has found which is the best performing graphics driver, I am currently using the driver installed via bootcamp 3.0, the driver from bootcamp 3.1 messed up the colour detail (would not display 32bit colours properly). Has anybody found a decent functional driver from ATI or have modded a driver for better performance? Those people who have successfully played top end games at high settings what driver do you use?
way to run binaries compiled for linux to run on MacOS X. Sort like how the FreeBSD compatibility layer does it or lxrun. Okay, before you start telling me to use pkgsrc, macports, or fink let me tell you. This is not what I'm trying to do. And don't tell me to use a virtual machine. I kind of need full speed. I am asking if there is some way I can run Linux BINARIES. I know I can use a package manager or compile from source in fact I normally do. But recently I've been running into more and more closed source linux programs. Which I can't just make a few changes to the code and compile. I know I could use a decompiler, but those will give me assembler code, and truth be told, I don't know the language well enough and the amount of work
ssh login from my 10.6.2 mac to a linux system is extremely slow -- about a minute to get the login prompts. In comparison, ssh login to the same linux machine from putty.exe on Windows XP is almost instantaneous. I have tried adjusting the parameters on both client and host, without much improvement. However, the "1" protocol level seems a little faster. I have setup the keys ("2" level), and that works (without need for pasword), but is still very slow.
I installed putty from macports onto the mac. I got it to work using the "1" protocol level, but it is just as slow as from the terminal command line. All of the above tests were done on a local network with addresses like 192.168.0.102, so I don't think DNS is a factor.
I just got my first Apple product, a 13.3" MacBook Pro, and have been loving every minute of it. I'm using it mainly for work (systems development and graphics design).
1) Salesperson from Apple shop strongly advised against keyboard protectors citing it causes overheating; he recommended regular vacuuming and blowing with compressed air instead. Is this true? 2) Will I see a noticeable performance increase with a 7200rpm HDD? Will a larger capacity and faster spinning speed of 7200rpm degrade battery life? How about heat issues? 3) I'm thinking of getting a matte screen protector to reduce glare and reflection. Will the matte screen degrade image quality and brightness. I seen several sellers (from HongKong) selling cheap ones at US$6 to US$9 with shipping on eBay, are they safe to use?
I have a USB device with a windows driver and application that works fine under bootcamp. No native OSX drivers available for this device. Will I be able to install the drivers and run using Parallels?
I have a 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro which I bought a couple months ago. It's been working great, but lately, I've been noticing a lot of strange issues with video playback/general graphics and UI. These includes:- Laggy video performance, frame skipping, generally 2x slow video -- on both iTunes and web video. It's not as smooth as it used to be, though admittedly not totally unbarable - VLC shows a black screen, doesn't show the video - Randomly pixelated icons in the dock (it's almost like the Mac picks a new one everyday to pixelate), dock animation not 100% smooth, although fairly good (not sure if it used to be this way)
I have a mid-2009, 2.66 GHz MacBook Pro (MacBookPro5,3). The computer has dual graphics chipsets, an NVidia 9400m and 9600M GT, both with 256 MB of VRAM. To change between the two, the user must select which one he or she wants to use. However, that user must have administrator privileges.
I am not the administrator. Is there a way I can have the graphics system permanently set to the higher-performance chipset, because the system seems to automatically default to the 9400m. It is annoying to contact my administrator every time I need to run a high performance game or aggressively use SketchUp, Final Cut, etc.

That's the message I got when adding a new printer driver. The reference was system/library/extension/cnqe202-classicnotseize.kext. Or close to that. I think I got that message also when upgrading to 10.6.1. As I recall there was also a note about updating this extension but no info on how to do it. Searching for .kext brought up a long list from last August having to do with crash reports with skype, real player, fire fox and a couple more; but nothing permanent and everything is working fine. Anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm using an iMac, 20".
I have a Sony handycam DCR-TRV22E (old but works well). The driver that I received with the device in 2005 does not work with Mac OS X - it says it only works with Classic. As I am a relatively new Mac user I am not totally familiar with the Mac operating system and drivers. I've googled for drivers but can find nothing for the Mac.
The majority of us use Parallels and/or VMWare to virtualize Windows XP, Vista, or 7 however there also is an option to run a virtualized installation of OSX as well. How is the performance? Which do you prefer for OSX, Parallels or VMWare?
I recently bought the 8core Mac pro . It came with the Nvidia card. I am looking for the best graphics card that can handle extream gaming and some 3d modeling work. I am aware of the Quadro but I was told that it doesnt performs that well with gaming. Is there a way to SLI cards like on PC on Mac?
What would show more immediate quality of graphics and faster on-line refresher rates, a graphics card with more ram or double the memory? Im debating whether to get the 512mb ATI Card or an additional 4 gig or Memory with my new iMac.does Apple not offer the really high end ATI Cards with 1 gig of ram?
Is it possible to run the a MacPro under bootcamp all the time using a high end Nvidia or ATI graphics card?I would like to use the MacPro as a gaming PC.
My 1st gen mac pro's radion 1900 is getting really bad - pixels /lines / system hangs etc.... I was going to update the card a couple of months back to an 8800gt - but you can't get them on the store anymore! have a spare 8800gt kicking around!
FCT Some Motion and color CS3 Logic Pro
I want also to be reasonably confident that the new card will work in Snow Leopard.
