MacBook :: Transferring IPhoto Library From External Hard Drive To New Mac?

Jul 6, 2010

I have recently bought a new MacBook. I initially thought it would be better to run iPhoto from the external hard drive, but after moving some things around I now want to run it straight from the MacBoook hard drive.

I tried copying the library from the external hard drive to the MacBook but I keep getting the following message....

"You cant copy iPhoto Library because it has the same name as another item on the destination volume, and that volume doesnt distinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames."

Applications :: Transferring IPhoto Library To External HD With Settings?

Sep 20, 2009

Which files do they need to get my library exactly as I have it now? The way the photos are organized by me (Not the individual dates the were imported as the 1st time) I spent hours organizing my library by month/even for the last 5 years. In finder do I just copy the entire iPhoto library to my external HD? or some specific set of files.. remember I will be putting it on a brand new iMac for my mom.

OS X :: Error When Transferring File To External Hard Drive?

Apr 26, 2008

I have a USB 2.0 hard drive that I have been using to back up movie files. It has let me transfer files from my Macbook Pro HD to it hundreds of times without any problems.

I have this .mkv file that keeps giving me an error when I try to transfer it to my external. I get "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code 0)".

I have transferred plenty of .mkv files to my external with no problems. All other files work fine when I transfer them. It will let me move my .mkv file around my Macbook Pro's internal hard drive but it won't let me transfer it to the external.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Copying IPhoto Library To NAS Drive - Error 36

May 12, 2012

I am trying to copy the iPhoto library to my newly installed NAS drive. I have 2 libraries (3.6gb and 16.8gb). The smaller one copied across no problem but when copying the second I get an error 36 after it has copied 30mb of data.

I have tried all avenues:
- Restarted iPhoto holding down alt and opt and repairing permissions.
- Rebuilt library using iPhoto Library Manager

But I still get the same message. I have backed up the whole Mac using Superduper to a small external drive and that works fine.Part of the reason I bought the NAS drive was to back up photos, and now it doesn't work!

Also, I do when checking Console I get the following message regularly:
12/05/2012 09:16:22.050 fseventsd: scan_old: bailing out because device mounted @ /Volumes/Buffalo_Cloud has dls 0x0 and dls->fci 0x0

Applications :: Transferring IPhoto Library From Tiger To SL / IPhoto 5

Jan 27, 2010

I am transferring info from an iBook G4 running Tiger to a MacBook running Snow Leopard. Everything is going well, except for my ability to transfer the iPhoto library. I have mounted the iBook to the MacBook via Firewire. When I transferred my iPhoto library from my MB to my new MBP, it was easy: all I had to do was drag over "iPhoto Library" from User>Pictures>iPhoto Library But it isn't set up the same way on the iBook: in User>Pictures, "iPhoto Library" is a folder instead of a small iPhoto icon (which you would need to right-click on to see its contents). When I copied the contents of the folder into "iPhoto Library" on the new MacBook, it didn't maintain all of the organization (eg. the albums). Is there any way to do this so that iPhoto will keep the organization of the photo library on the new MacBook, or am I destined to reorganize my thousands of photos into albums again? Please keep in mind that the MacBook is being set up as a new computer, and I am copying over the files/docs/music/photos that she wants to keep from the iBook. I am not using Migration Assistant.

Applications :: Looking For An Application To Do Backups Of IPhoto Library To External Drive?

Dec 21, 2009

Ive been building up quite the iPhoto library, about 12,000 photos; and it will be growing much more as I just got a new camera. I always have the scary thought of losing photos, I need to start backing up my photos.
I am looking for an application that will be able to do a backup of my photos to my external hard drive (160GB).

My iPhoto library is currently just under 38GB. I would like to be able to plug in my external drive to my macbook about once a month and run some kind of application to backup my whole iPhoto library to the external...

Oh and I would really like it to be a GUI, I don't really like working in terminal.

Does anything like this exist?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Copy IPhoto Library To External Hard Drive

Jun 6, 2012

Recently, despite careful file management my internal hard drive has reached its capacity so I purchased a 2TB WD My Book to move many of my files to to make room. After reformatting it (Mac OS Extended Journaling) starting copying stuff over but I struck a problem when I tried copying my iphoto library file over. Its about 47gig and every time i try it begins to copy but then it suddenly stops around 600mb saying it cant read or write something in the file.Is the file too big? Do I need to format the drive it differently? Hopefully not as I've already moved a heap of files over.

Intel Mac :: IPhoto Library Transfer To External Hard Drive Very Slow

Apr 10, 2012

I am transferring my iPhoto library to an external hard drive and it is agonizingly slow.

I am attempting to make room on our iMac so am moving our 193 GB iPhoto library to our Seagate 2TB external hard drive.  The drive is brand new AND is formated properly as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but the current copy estimate is for it be completed in over 80 hours.  I dont beleive the drive is broken as data is continuing to be transferred and not completely hung up.

When I transfer other folders/files the process is much much faster.  Problem only seems to be with iPhoto library that I have found.

ITunes For Mac :: Transferring Library To A New Computer - Error (-50)

Dec 3, 2014

I recently purchased a Retina iMac running OS 10.10.1.   My previous computer is a Mac Pro (2006) with 10.7.5 (latest OS it will support).  The Mac Pro has iTunes 12.0.1 with the database files on the system hard drive and the media files on a secondary internal hard drive.  getting my iTunes library on to the new iMac.

Migration Assistant doesn't work.

Open Migration Assistant on the iMac and it finds the Mac Pro and offers a code which should be verified on the Mac Pro.  Open Migration Assistant on the Mac Pro and tell it to "Transfer to another Mac" and get the spinning gear.  Left it on all night, they never connected.

Consolidating my iTunes library back to the Mac Pro system hard drive doesn't work.

Following the directions from Apple Support, I pointed my current copy of iTunes (on the Mac Pro) to the default Music folder in order to consolidate the library all in to one folder so that I could transfer it at once to the iMac (iTunes > File > Library > Organize Library).  After about 20 minutes I got an error message: "Copying files failed. An unknown error occurred (-22)".  I assume there is one or more files screwing this up, but can't figure out which one(s).

Simply copying the entire iTunes media folder over my network from the Mac Pro to the iMac doesn't work.

Error (-50) and the copying fails before it gets more than 50 mb.  I'm currently attempting to copy one folder at a time.  But I don't assume that I'll be able to rebuild my old library on the new machine this way.

The current iTunes library is about 250 GB.  It is slow, but works on the old machine.

MacBook Pro :: 10.7.3 Error Code -36 When Transferring To External HDD

Apr 25, 2012

So i am having a problem with copying files onto my Iomega external HDD. Itunes films, other video files (GoPro format, etc.), music, basically anything that is not text or a picture (for the sake of this post, the movie Taken), begins to transfer and right about at the halfway point the message "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "Taken.m4v" can't be read or written. (Error Code -36). I have trie dot_clean and several other solutions that i have read around the web but none of it seems to be working. I suppose it might also help to know that mz external drive is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). Strangely, i have gotten 2 files to transfer, an iMovie film that i made myself and one of the films in my itunes library. other than those two files, the only thing i have been able to transfer has been text documents and pictures.

About six months ago I ran into the problem a lot of people face with a macbook, where my itunes library was taking up an unreasonable portion of my internal hard drive. I took the easy way out, and just got a 500gb usb seagate portable. Now being that I'm a dj, and I'm always producing tracks and remixes on the go I needed to have my music with me all the time so I velcroed the drive to the back of my mac and basically always left it on and treated it like a second partition.

ITunes For Mac :: Transferring Library From NAS To Hard Drive

Aug 21, 2014

After weeks of issues since migrating my entire iTunes library to a NAS (WD MyCloud) from a PC I think I'm going to move it to the harddrive of my new iMac.

My questions are:

1) iTunes keeps showing that there are around 150 songs it can't locate (displays the exclamation mark next to the songs) which I then have to find manually - do I need to find all songs first before moving the library?

2) The total size will eventually be around 550GB once all further CD's are ripped - will this considerably slow down my iMac which is 1TB? (so far I have only used 79GB of it)

3) One of the reasons I want to move the library is that the NAS somehow more than duplicated most of the files so now my itunes shows I have 264GB of music but the NAS is showing 540GB - iff I migrate the iTunes library, I'm assuming it will only move the 264GB that it links to and not all the duplicates - is this correct?
