MacBook Pro :: Does New Support Nvidia Optimus In Bootcamp?
Jun 11, 2012
Battery life in bootcamp was pretty bad on the last version because it was always using the discrete graphics card, I believe it never used the integrated graphics card.
I want to know if the new version will support what is know as nvidia Optimus, where you can switch back and forth between the integrated and dedicated graphics card while in windows (I.e. under bootcamp).
Info:
MacBook
Pro, Windows
7, Bootcamp

Ok i've been through such a long debacle trying to connect my white macbook to my SDTV via mini-DVI to composite adaptor and composite cables and it simply doesn't work no matter how much we tried trouble shooting it. An acquaintance then told me that the recent macbooks with hte nVIDIA 9400M graphics chips DON'T support tv out?

downloaded from Nvidia.com which give you error when you try to install it. So here I compiled a short guide in how to update your drivers. 1. Driver Nvidia 259.47 ( found better performance with this one) for Windows Vista/7 64 BIT ONLy!!! Same driver but for windows Vista/ 7 32 BIt Download here2. After you have downloaded drivers you will noticed that they are packed with 7Zip archive (self extracting), unpack it (just remember the location).

Considering buying win 7 so i can bootcamp for 1st time. Before I do though, I want to know if/why it'll work. I've read that OSX 10.6 has driver issues witn nVidia hardware. Well, why would they be any different on Windows? Does Microsoft write its own drivers for Mac hardware? Or is it nVidia? I ask this b/c dont you have to install the drivers off the OSX disc? Doesn't make sense why apple would give you better drivers for windows than they do for OSX. Point is, I'd be doing this for gaming. I just don't see why there'd be any performance improvement with the SAME HARDWARE, just running windows instead.

I recently installed the 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system onto my MacBook Pro 13 inch. I have the most basic Macbook Pro 13 inch with nothing fancy added. Whenever I load up the Windows 7 OS on my Macbook, it never utilizes or even realizes that I have the NVIDIA graphics card in my laptop. It instead believes I have some integrated graphics card that cannot even run the most basic of PC games. I know my laptop can run these games because on OSX it runs multiple games with higher requirements than these games I am trying to run on Windows.
Basic question: How do I get bootcamp or whatever else to make Windows 7 realize I have a NVIDIA card and drivers. Sorry if I am coming off as stupid or confusing.

So, I bought myself new Macbook Pro exactly 21 days ago, and was disappointed to find out that they refreshed it today.
However, I am heading to Apple Store Friday afternoon to find out what I can do to get that refreshed one. (I waited 7 month, until the last day of the presentation)So, to people with 320m graphics, are there any big difference? Does the battery lasts longer?

Setting aside the temporary lack of support for Windows 7, I was wondering which I should install. I have a few older titles/games that I would like to use/play from time to time. All of them were designed for XP. I'm sure Windows 7 will more than likely run them fine, but is it really my best option?I'm not planning to invest in any additional Windows software (at least that's the current plan). The cost is the same so I'm asking for opinions and comments from others.

My job has a policy requiring all laptops (all mobile devices, actually) to be encrypted. This is full encryption, requiring a username and password before it can even begin to boot into Windows. It is a 3rd party product. My question is, is there anyway to run a bootcamp partition to support this kind of business encryption? How about OS X? What about inside of a VM?

I had Win XP servicepack 3 installed via bootcamp. Recent OSX updates changed bootcamp and it supports now only Win 7. I was not informed about this change. So to be able to use my Win XP applications again I bought Win 7 Pro 64 bit OEM. The CD will work until I have to install and format the new created partition. I cannot choose between FAT or NTFS the installation continues and Windows will be unpacked. The counter remains on (0). Nothing happens further.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Like to use Win 7 via bootcamp

1) Does Bootcamp properly support Vista 64-bit ? If so how stable is it (don't want any crashes caused by poor drivers - really want rock solid stability under Vista) ?
2) Will the Mac Pro support any SATA hard drive or would I have to buy specific models/brands ?

I am going to college this year to study Graphic Design and i am looking to purchase a MBP 15". I have read a couple of other threads which cover similar questions however i am not truly satisfied with the answers i have read.
My MBP will have to run the following programs on a regular basis: Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash. It will also have to run basic tasks such as word processing, internet surfing and email. Finally i would also like to install parallels and XP on the machine just in case an work or applications need to be run on windows. Obviously all of these applications will not be running simultaneously however there is a strong chance 2 or 3 maybe running at the same time. My Imac deals with this without problems, will the MBP be the same?

I've seen many people post that they want to see an ATI GPU. I was wondering if there was a particular reason for this. I don't know much about Nvidia's chips, do they not offer any with comparable performance and efficency?

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

i have the macbook pro with this 2 gpus
i used to use only the 9600m gt for gaming as 9400m was handling everything, has better battery life and run cooler.
but i notice when i'm playing 1080p videos the 9600m gt perform better.
ok, 1080p youtube 9400m no problem at all.
1080p played on vlc 9400m laggy sometimes. but 9600m gt perform well.
1080p played on plex 9400m no problem at all.
that's why i think the new auto switching graphic cards on the new macbook pro is cool.
sometimes i'm on 9600m gt and decide to take the mac to the living area and forget that i was on the dedicated card while using on battery.

I have a macbook pro
Model Identifier:MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:2.53 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
With
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M:
Chipset Model:NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Type:GPU
Bus:PCI
VRAM (Total):256 MB
Vendor:NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID:0x0863
Revision ID:0x00b1
ROM Revision:3427
It is incredible slow - freezes constantly unless on very low graphics in games like World of Warcraft so i'm assuming i need to upload graphics. So i went to the Nvidia website, and tried to update driver by following steps correctly, selecting the correct options, etc and it said it couldn't update for my system..
How do i update my software so i can play without freezing?

I have base line White Macbook (The cheapest one) which is 32 month old now. My sister bought her Macbook when the nVidia graphic chip was available for non-unibody Polycarbonate Macbook. Well, I asked her if I can trade only the HD so that I can get the graphic card and RAM that she barely uses (no gamings), so I was wondering, should I swap HD or buy the new one? Buying new one costs $999 and swapping costs $0.

The Mid-2010 iMacs all have ATI GPUs so does that point to MBPs going to ATI rather than nvidia?
Since MBPs use Apple designed graphics switching rather than nvidia's Optimus, I wouldn't see why they couldn't do the same thing with ATI as they do with nvidia.

So I bought my macbook pro about a year ago, and ever since I have never update my graphic/video card. I need to update it because I am trying to play this game (Left4Dead) and It says that I should update it and I have tried playing the game without updating but when I get to the Main Menu it is blank. So I went to nvidia's website and I could not find an update for GeForce 8600M GT for mac.
