I accidentally dropped my "Applications Folder" off my Dock when I first got my Mac and it disappeared. When I put it back by dragging the applications folder onto the Dock, instead of assuming the Applications Folder logo, it took on the logo of the first application in my Applications Folder: the Address book. Now, my desktop permanantly has the picture of the Address Book instead of the picture of the Applications Folder.
How do I fix this? ive followed other thread advice with no luck. Is there a way to re-set the Dock? Where does the logo live and how do I get it back there?
I placed documents in my desktop folder and they are recognized in the folder. However, they do not actually appear up on my desktop anymore like they used to, nor do files appear on my desktop when they are downloaded from the internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble finding a folder on my macbook that I am 100% positive that it is on my computer but when I enter the folder name in the finder it will not come up. It was a folder that was buried in one folder and then you had to open another folder and then another one and so on. It is buried but like I said I know for a fact it is there, somewhere.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a macbook air user and I have a problem with my document saving. I was doing a project and I put the information I needed in a document. I am pretty sure i saved it cause I remember I checked the name of it. It was yesterday and today I can't find it anywhere. It's not in recent document and I can't find it in spotlight or document searching or even trash. I checked the available space in the macintosh hd and I have nearly 1/3 left. It's fine if I can't find this doc i will just redo it but I'm really worried what if next time if something really important goes missing and I don't want to do that again!

I was trying to open an existing Numbers document saved to my desktop. It took me to the App Store, but I didn't have access to a Wireless network. If it needed an update, why does it require the update to open an existing/previously saved document?

For the first time, my screen shots [command + control + shift + 3] and [command + control + shift + 4] are not saving to my desktop. I don't recall changing this setting (or how to). Where are they going? I haven't installed any software that should conflict with this macro (haven't installed anything at all except Sim City 4 since last using the screenshot feature. The desktop folder is empty and a search for "Picture 1" finds nothing.

I recently discovered that files saved onto desktop would not be visible. Whenever I save a photoshop document, recieve an adium file transfer, or take a screenshot with command shift 3, etc., it does not show on the desktop. However, if I drag and drop files from other folders onto the desktop or drag a picture in firefox onto the desktop, it shows.
I've tried these but the files wouldn't show:
-Sorting files by filename in the view options.
-Opening the desktop folder in finder.
-Renaming the files in terminal.
When I do these, the files would show:
-Restart the computer.
-If I list the desktop directory in terminal with the ls command, the files are visible.
-Move the file in terminal to another directory, the file is visible with finder.
-Dragging the above file onto desktop, the file shows.
I recently installed WinXP with bootcamp, wonder if that caused the problem.
I can't find where Motion is saving text styles in 10.9.3
Don't say Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles because it isn't true. I've checked over and over. Everyone that answered this question was a year ago.
Oh yeah. Motion is FUBAR when saving styles. I will save the first one. Create another style and try to save that and it saves my previous style over and over and over. I just blew off hours saving styles for a project and only the first one work, every other style is a duplicate of the first one I set. You should have an exact preview or something like that before it is saved. This entire process should be like Photoshop. I should be able to save a style palette for a customer in a file and reuse that rather than cluttering my styles folder with legacy information. You have this feature on the color palette, why not Motion and all other apps?
And Apple, it would be so cool if the finder had a mode that allowed searching under the hood, as it were. When files are saved in Libraries and you can't search there it is a huge time waster. Jobs used to brag about plug-and-play. This is more like hunt-and-peck. Don't give me some crap about the command line interface, I want an easy way to find files.
For some reason when I save a Microsoft 2008 Word file to my desktop, as soon as I am done saving it, stuffit opens and a folder with the same name as the .docx file is created that contains the .docx info. So everytime I save one file I end up with 1 word doc and one corresponding folder. Any feedback on how to stop this or hide the folders or put the folders in their default directory?

I usually keep my desktop empty and use it to store stuff I'm going to process in the next hour anyway.
Sometimes my desktop is absolutely empty, but when I navigate to the following path: UserDesktop, the files do show up.

I had created 3 personal folders In my Home folder. I then created a new folder called "active folder" and dragged these 3 folders inside, removing them from the Home folder. I then dragged my newly created folder "Active Folder" to the Sidebar of the finder. When I had closed finder and reopened it - the "active Folder" folder was unable to open. A friend tried to help- dragged "active folder" off the sidebar.. and it disappeared with a cloud effect. I cant find that folder or its NB contents anywhere?

I have a macbook pro with a 750 GB hard disk. This was purchased only recently. Two months ago, it showed a message which said the hard disk was full. This was despite the fact that I had less than 10GB of pictures and music together.
When I spoke to Apple, they said that Yahoo mail tends to create a recovered messages folder, which he helped me locate and delete. This gave me 740Gb back.
It has happened once again. And i cant seem to lopcate this folder. I cannot find Mail folder either having gone through user/library etc.

"Once your site is saved to the folder, you can upload it to the FTP server with an FTP publishing application." This is what i was afraid of. What does this mean? Where is an article that tells me EXACTLY what to do to keep my website running after mobile me goes away? This article tells me nothing. (i have an older version of iWeb) All i want from Apple is an easy, step by step, list of instructions to help me keep my website running

My dad was saving a bunch of Word docs on his Mac - he had one large file that he split up into twenty-some smaller files, which he then saved onto both his desktop and on a flash drive. Somehow along the way (neither he nor I had any clue how) but 4 of those files saved as an alias that point to nowhere. In other words, I can't find the originals anywhere on his computer or flash drives.
Even stranger is that one of those files aliased to the Applications folder. Keep in mind these are all supposed to be word documents. They all still end with .doc, but their type is an alias. I have no clue how they were created as an alias, but they were. It's probably a longshot without knowing where the original is located, but do any of you guys know how to possibly retrieve this?

I just bought a Macbook Pro a couple of days ago and this is my first Mac. This may be a dumb question, but remember I'm new to Mac.I just installed a printer and it placed a folder on my desktop. It seems logical to me that this folder should be on Launchpad. Can/should I move this folder to Launchpad and if so, how?
