It seems to stuck in Clamshell mode? External Display, Keyboard, Power -> MBP working!
But without it's just sleeping. Internal display isn't detected then. Have installied 10.7.3 Lion + All EFI Upgrades.
Zapping PRAM and SMC had no effect. Also deleting the power management prefs using single user mode had no effect. I am able to wake it up for short without external display - but 5-10 secs later it is sleeping again.

I came into work today to find our server asleep. Our server is on an old G4 tower. We usually keep this running 24/7 to allow for remote access, but for the last 2 weeks we have set up a scheduled shutdown over the weekend to try to keep the server fresh and clean - bad idea!
Every 18 seconds or so, the machine goes to sleep. The monitor goes black (with a green flashing light on) and the tower goes dead silent and displays a glowing power button. Moving the mouse or pressing a key restores everything where we left off, but 18 seconds later, puff, its gone again.
We managed to get in and turn of the scheduled shutdown but this hasn't resolved the issue.
Whenever the screen is on we can access the server (not email) but as soon as it goes to sleep, we get kicked off the server.

I know this is Windows-esque, but is there a way when you only have one window up of closing that application by clicking on the red cross, instead of the window closing but the application is still open? I do find it irritating that I have to - Q all the time and I can't even - W on the last window to close the application.
If you know what I'm talking about, is there a way of doing this?

I'm used to KDE and Gnome, where if I close an app, it's closed, end of. No more consuming processor power and no need to go round housekeeping and right-click+quit. Please help me understand how to change the behaviour of my Mac mini so when I click the little red X, the app closes properly.

I have a refurb. MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (2009 model) and the glass display appears to be 'falling off.' A space can be seen between the glass and the rubber strip near the camera at the top of the display. This computer has spent most of the time I've had it on my desk. I take good care of this expensive baby, and I can ensure I caused no damage to it. I got it in January.
The nearest Apple store for me is 80 miles away. I can't be without the computer for much time at all, but I want this fixed. It's unlikely Apple will be eager to send me an entire new computer (I always have everything backed up), but that's what I want to do. I've read somewhere that Apple will email a shipping label and send out a replacement as soon as the package is shipped.
Maybe I can psychologically manipulate them? Does anyone have any ideas on convincing them?
I don't know what to do. I hope Apple doesn't have me send it in and just shoot some adhesive under the glass and tell me it's good. I guess replacing the lid would be sufficient too. I just need this computer for work and I simply can't go without it.

Is just bought a Macbook Pro on Craigslist; it came with the square, white wall charger. The problem is, when I plug the charger into an outlet, it falls out. I've had to literally tape the charger to the wall to keep it in the outlet.

I have a mid2009 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 Ghz with an 1TB in the main bay and a Verbatim 128GB SSD in my optibay. I also upgraded my RAM to 2x 4GB. It runs the latest Lion version.
Here is my problem:
When I work on my battery and there's no power left, it automatically shuts down. Right? The sleep/wake light lights until the battery is out of power. If I then try to reboot, the Apple and a loading-bar appear which shows that it is recovering the previous session so that I can continue where I left (right?).
The problem is that it fails at 1/3rd of the bar and the screen goes black. After resetting PRAM and the other resettable things, it still won't boot on that partition.
I tried to repair from an external Lion installation drive, my second partition (which also runs lion) and from the Recovery HD (of both partitions). I always get the same problem (see picture).
This is happening to me all the time. After several reboots i can acces my files again, but I still can't boot from my partition because it fails loading my last session. It certainly isn't the disks fault because I can boot from the other partition on that very same disk w/o any problems. Right now I'm trying to make an identical copy with Disk Utility (as described by Apple).
My question now is: Can I repair the partition by any means without reformating it (as I did the last times)?
Furthermore: Can I just disable the function that tries to backup/restore my last session so that my MBP just shuts down or does a hard shutdown when the battery dies?
PS: My Time Machine drive is at the moment not available, so I couldn't backup in a while, I need the files.

i have an imac g5 that has been falling into sleep randomly at times. the first time this happened was when i tried playing the Nanosaurs game that came with the computer. i played for 10 or 15 minutes before it went into sleep mode, and then when i woke it up and tried playing again it would fall back into sleep right away. i havent used that game recently, but it has also fell into sleep while using the dvd rippng program handbrake. it has also fallen into sleep while running other programs, though i do not specifically remember which. after it falls asleep, and after i wake it back up, it often falls right back into sleep mode and i need to close most programs to get it to stay awake. it came with 256 mem and i added another 512 months ago. i dont know if that has anything to do with it but thats the only mod ive made so the rest is just stock.

My macbook pro warranty ended in December. since I bought it i've had major problems with the display. This is my 4th screen. it's literarlly falling off - as in I can see the camera from the inside that was like last month - now the everything left of the camera comes lose... can look down and see whats between the "glass". it's like the screen is held together with adhesive which isn't strong enough any longer... everything from the right side of the camera is still sticking but I just want to keep it together until the new macbook pros come out or september for back to school specials....
I have the unibody verison from 2009 the one with the removable battery. I just feel like something I spent over 2k for should hold together a little better than this?

Once asleep and enters hibernation, the laptop will not start up. Even after I hit the space bar. The "sleeping light" stops going on and off and just sticks on and the screen stays un-lit. I am then forced to shut it off, so I will hold the power button down until I hear the hard drive shut down and then start it back up.
Then one of two things happen; either it starts up nicely or it starts up and remains with no display and I am forced to hard restart again. I have found that if my external HD is plugged into the USB port upon start up it will get stuck in start up; it will keep starting up the main hard-drive and nothing happens so I have to hard shut off and unplug the external and then start again. I have been trying to keep music going on my machine to avoid hibernation, but night times kinda suck.

This has been happening increasingly. When I start up my MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard) the system boots up (chime, etc) and all is well except at the end of the process the screen is black. If I push power button and then "S" (which puts into sleep mode), of course the screen remains black. Then pushing any key will wake the screen and all is as normal.

My late 2012 MacBook Pro overheats when asleep. The fan blasts until it shuts itself down (I get a message). This started after the most recent update. I am at 10.9.3. Also, I now have a magenta flash when starting up. Now I always shut down the computer when I am done so it won't destroy itself.

just purchased an NEC Spectraview LCD2690WUxi2 display (1920x1600 26" LCD SIPS panel), and fonts are aliasing strangely, almost as if they are not falling "on the pixel" in the OS. It's not a "big" problem but is clearly noticeable in my transition from my 23" cinema display. This is particularly evident with small fonts or italics. I'm really hoping that there are settings either in OSX or on the display that can fix this issue. Images look absolutely fantastic BTWtack sharp, no banding, phenomenal color. In that respect this blows my old 23" Apple display completely out of the water. So it's likely something in the OS, no

MacBook Pro 2.16 Intel Core2Duo with 2 GB 667MHz SDRAM runs very quietly when being used. When left with lid closed overnight but still logged in, each AM the the fan is running loudly at high speed and the case is hot. As soon as I open it and it starts up, the fan quiets down and the case is cool in a few minutes. The temps range (when open and quiet) from 90-125 F for various components and the fan speeds are about 2000 RPM. Why should it run hot when closed and asleep.

I have a February 2008 MBP and am having issues with keeping it asleep. I currently have it set up as a desktop connected to an external monitor, keyboard and Magic Mouse (along with a variety of other peripherals) and I've recently noticed this issue. I'm running 10.6.1, I have tried everything from resetting the PRAM, SMC and repairing disk permissions to even installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard and restoring from Time Machine backup.
For power management, I have it set to never sleep, since I manually set it to sleep and don't want it sleeping on me when in use. I also have Wake on LAN activity disabled. Yet when I set it to sleep, at approximately noon the next day it wakes up by itself. I've even turned off the Magic Mouse to make sure it wasn't being moved by vibration and waking up the Mac. I'm completely stumped!
For troubleshooting purposes, I've installed a clean copy of SL without restoring TM backup to see if it's a program that's causing this issue or if it's a problem with a peripheral. I've yet to check back on it as I'm at work, but I'm hoping it's just software related. I'm at a loss as to what to do.

My Macbook Pro will not stay in sleep mode.
When I close the lid, it will go to sleep for about 5 seconds and then just continuously wake up, then sleep, then wake up etc.
If I press sleep for the menu it just wakes up again after about 5 seconds.
The battery is completely screwed and the laptop is often plugged in, but even when I take it off charge the same thing happens.

My mid 2007 macbook pro thinks its asleep when the cover is open but awake when the cover is closed. I was encoding some media files to dvd when a friend accidentally unplugged the power source. The battery drained and I did not notice until it was fully drained. I then went to plug it in and turn it back on and it refused to, I then closed the cover and it awoke as if everything was normal. I opened the cover and I saw it exactly as it should but then the screen went black as if it had gone to sleep. i'd rather not have to purchase a new macbook.

My 2011 Macbook pro i7 has a chronic problem: as soon as it goes to sleep, the wireless connection is lost, and has to be manually coerced back to the computer by turning the wireless off, waiting several seconds, turning it back on again, and waiting for it to find the router again. It finds the router in a few more seconds, then everything is OK until it goes to sleep again.
A real pain in the butt, and shouldn't be a problem on a supposedly high end computer.

Been having a few huge issues with my new MBA 13".
#1 - Putting the laptop to sleep. I put the laptop to sleep and put it in the bag and at some point it wakes back up. If I don't remove it during the day by that afternoon/evening when I go to remove it the battery is at 0% and it's fully discharged. One day I took it out a couple hours in and the fan was blowing like mad like it had been running for a while, when I opened the lid I had a black screen and it was frozen. Disabled waked for network access but it was no help.
#2 - When the laptop goes in standby and I open it back up I get a beach ball forever - I've tried to let it go for upwards of 30 minutes and it never unfreezes, but I can move the mouse around. I ended up telling the laptop not to standby when it was plugged in to a power source otherwise I ended up always losing work.

My Macbook Pro (purchased Dec 2010) falls asleep when I am in the middle of using it (typing, clicking, watching a tv show). There will be no display or sound, and it will sleep. Most times it will wake up when I click the touchpad alot or close and reopen the screen. However, sometimes I will need to restart. I am not sure why it is doing this all the sudden. It is happening more and more often. How can I fix it? The AC Adapter is plugged in, battery work normally and I set the energy saver so that it would not sleep when plugged in.

I upgraded my Mini no problem, then I put the install disk in my MacBook and started the upgrade. All appeared normal.
Came back about an hour later, and the MacBook was asleep. Woke it, expecting to see the new login screen, but I got the old login screen. Logged in, and did not see the welcome movie or anything to indicate the new OS. Checked 'About This Mac', and it says OS 10.5.8.
Before I started the upgrade I had about 11.5GB free on my 80GB hard drive. Now I have just short of 10GB free. There is a folder on my HD titled 'Mac OS X Install Data' with a 'date modified' of today (all other folders have older dates) -- it appears to be mostly .pkg files, the biggest of which are 'Essentials.pkg' (841MB) and 'BaseSystem.pkg' (625MB).
Can anyone tell what went wrong -- why when the computer restarted it's not running 10.6? And, maybe more importantly, what should I do now? Run the installer disk again? Could it be that I didn't have enough free space on my HD?
