MacBook Pro :: Chrome Gmail - "browser's Cookie Functionality Is Turned Off?
Jul 3, 2012
I've been receiving the above message repeatedly after:Â
1 - "Clearing ALL browser data" numerous times
2 - I have "allow local data to be set (recommended)". numerous timesÂ
Sometimes it's not even accepting my UN & PW for my gmail rather just going back to a blank screen ready to re-enter a UN & PW.Â

I'm trying to think of a way to mimic Gmail functionality without actually using a Google/ Gmail account. My work email account is an imap account which I would like to use on my Macbook, and also my iPad. The ideal situation would be for all of my folders, inbox, and sent emails to sync as if I were working on the same device. In other words, I would like to write an email from my iPad only to come back to my office and find a copy on my laptop. Is this possible? Is it merely a matter of adding the imap account to my iPad?
I currently have the account set up on my Macbook and iPhone. The iPhone functionality isn't great. Emails which I send from my iPhone do not appear in my sent emails on my Macbook. I'm looking to remedy this.

there is a site that i frequent and the password was changed on me but strangely i can still access the site...i am attributing that to the fact that i have the cookie store don my firefox browser (when i try to login with my safari browser with the same password it does not work anymore)
is there any way i can ensure that i do not get logged out?
how do i make the cookie permanent? i know that it sometimes "Resets" itself on its own how do i preven tthat?

To be honest the whole safari thing is always going to be a running joke to everyone. Safari cant play embedded videos or loads of the content on youtube because of Apple insistence to lock it to only use thier version of flash, why not remove it all together and have a browser choice like Windows has this would at least give the users a chance to get a browser that is fully functional?

I was working on my computer yesterday and must have changed a setting and have no idea how it got this way or how to get it back. My dashboard icons are in shadow. I can see them, but they are dark...except for Google Chrome. Is this a google invasion of my computer? I want them all bright again!

Does anyone else notice fonts in Google Chrome don't look as good as they do in other browsers like FF and Safari? They look cramped and unkerned. Am I the only one? It's distracting after coming from FF and preventing me from using it. Though that's not the only reason. I do like the speed of Chrome though.

I've observed that since its launch, Google's Chrome browser seems have quickly reached Safari's overall quality and become equal, if not possibly even better, than Safari.
So it's made me think could Apple simplify things by making a deal with Google to simply adopt Chrome as their default browser on Macs and iDevices?
The browsers are equal at their core - both running on the engine Apple essentially brought into being (Webkit.) And Apple could work with Google to implement their custom features (Top sites, cover flow) into Chrome.
But ultimately it seems to me it's a bit of a wasted resource to have both companies developing what are almost identical products. And it seems that Google treat their browser as more of a priority so would it be better to just leave the browser side of things to Google?

computer operating systems were designed in a age that preceded the worldwide web, Google said Wednesday it plans to release its own OS for web junkies that redefines "what operating systems should be."Described as a natural extension of its relatively new Google Chrome browser, Chrome OS is being developed as a fast and lightweight operating system that will boot quickly and get users "onto the web in a few seconds."Like its Android operating software for mobile phones, Google said it plans to open Chrome OS's code a bit later this year to allow the community of open-source developers to help shape and mold the new software

Google has announced the first stable release of Chrome for Mac users, now available for download.
Mike Smith, the product manager of Google's Chrome Team, said in a blog announcement, "Today, Im happy to announce that Google Chrome for Mac is being promoted out of beta to our stable channel.
"We believe that it provides not only the stability, performance and polish that every Mac user expects, but also a seamless native Mac application experience that Mac users will feel instantly at home with."
The new release can be downloaded from [URL]. It requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later, and only supports Intel Macs.
Chrome is based on the WebKit rendering engine and APIs maintained by Apple, but in contrast to Safari, it offers a variety of unique features such as extension plugins that can modify how the browser works.

Can anyone with experience using the Google browser vouch for what makes it so great? When I have tried it (on four different computers, different networks and locations) a lot of websites don't seem to work at all. I keep running into situations where some plugin seems to be required, but no plugin or fix exists. Why then are so many technology news sites writing such flattering reviews of this browser? Is it really fit to compete with Safari and Firefox?

I have had a lot of problems using Google Chrome browser with unwanted pop-up ads coming up all the time. It is a real pain to deal with this and it happens all the time. It all started a few days back when I clicked on updating a Java script for a program to run.
I have noticed that I do not have this problem when I use Firefox or Safari. What do I need to do to restore the performance of my Google Chrome browser

When I delete "Cookies.plist" from User/Library/Cookies and replace it with a copy I made earlier, there are still cookies from recent websites I have visited (even if I quit Safari, empty trash and reboot). I would like to keep a few important cookes (bank brokerage acct, etc) in 'clean' cookie files that I use to replace the ones that get all junked up as I surf around the web. This would be much easier than going through the cookies one at a time and deleting the vast majority of them I don't want. I can't just use the 'delete all' option for the reason stated above. Drives me nuts that everybody wants to track where I've been.Â

Been having a terrible time since I decided to delete all my cookies. When I tried to log back into all my online accounts I found that despite choosing "remember me" or other similar choice, if I logged out of my computer or even if I quit Safari (or Safari quit on me which it does a lot these days) I had to log back in to the online account, as if the identity cookie did not take. Tonight I stumbled onto my Console Log which I found has line after line of the following: 2012-03-05 22:28:34.275 Safari[12743] Could not open cookie file "/Users/ryan/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist" for reading. I clicked on the cookie plist, had to input my log in password and the document that came up showed it had recorded nothing since 2/28 which was the day I deleted the cookies. Why would the cookie file suddenly not open?

I've been hearing a lot about macbooks overheating, and was just wondering what are the ramifications of it overheating? Does it act slower, or over time does over heating lead to long term defects or something? Are there sings I should look for or something I should do if I sense my mac getting really hot?

Is there any way to bring up multiple instances of Safari, each one with a completely independent cookie database? I have several Gmail accounts, and I want to simultaneously log in to all of them in different browser windows. However, since Safari manages a central cookie database, I can't log into one of these Gmail accounts without signing out from another. With separate Safari instances that maintain separate cookie databases, I could simultaneously keep multiple Gmail windows open.

So I went out and bought the wireless Mighty Mouse. My first impressions are not good. Although I like the functionality, it just doesn't feel right - it feels a little flimsy and I can't get used to the scroll wheel. To top it all off, mine has a defect (it won't scroll left....only up/down/right). So I'm going to take it back to the Apple Store tomorrow. I think I'll end up getting something different, but I would like to keep with a Bluetooth one so I don't have to plug anything into my computer.

I use a unibody MBP for business, and often have to give presentations. Is there a method or hack for making the MBP only use the external display (ie the projector) rather than being limited to mirroring or extended desktop? This is so I can drive the presentation using the laptop keyboard but at the full 4:3 resolution of the projector, which is better for slides.
I am aware of the clamshell method but this requires either doing a cold boot and quickly closing the lid, or connecting an external keyboard and waking from sleep with the lid shut - neither of which is very convenient or should even be necessary, frankly.
On my old Thinkpad I could toggle/cycle through LCD/Mirror/External - is there a hack or some shareware which would duplicate this functionality on the MBP?

I will be online (Chrome) when all of the sudden no pages will load. If iTunes is open at this time, it will repeatedly give me a "-50" error. Once I close and reopen iTunes I get Error Code 13014. When Recieveing these errors, none of my files are accessable, and sometimes not visible. I must restart the computer and then it works fine, but 15 minutes later it does the same thing. I beileve it all has to do with my iTunes but I don't know how to fix it.

I know that some of the older MacBooks (2006-07) have multi-touch trackpad. Are some of those models only one or two finger touch? I am wanting to upgrade to Lion OSX and want to make sure the trackpad will support three and four finger gestures. And which is the oldest macbook model that supports multi-touch and will support all the functions on OSX LION?

The issue I've been having is that Safari 5.1.7 (on Windows 7) does not treat cookies as a "Session" cookie if the expiry has not been set. The date mysteriously gets set to Jan 01 2001 .... To reproduce the issue - these are the setups I tried this onÂ
Setup
1) Created a mockup webpage that creates two cookies
COOKIE_WITH_EXPIRY (expiration set to July 01 2013)
COOKIE_WITHOUT_EXPIRY (no expiration set)
2) Hosted this on ApacheÂ
Behaviour on Windows 7 + Safari 5.1.7
COOKIE_WITH_EXPIRY - expiration date shown as July 01 2013
COOKIE_WITHOUT_EXPIRY - expiration date shown as Jan 01 2001Â
Behaviour on Mac OS X 10.7.4 + Safari 5.1.7
