MacBook Pro :: Cannot Log On To 13 After Battery Gone Dead And Reacharged

Mar 13, 2012

My MBP battery was dead for about 1.5 weeks. I charged it fully but now when I try to log on it doesn't seem to recongnize my password.

Also during start up, the spinning wheel appears as usual but also a progress bar that wasn't there prior ro dead battery. It only seems to progress about 30% of the way across before reverting to my login page.

Could I have damaged something by lettinbg the battery go dead for so long?

BTW the factory reset procedure doesn't seem to work. Should this procedure be executed from power off or power on mode?

MacBook Pro :: Dead Battery - Plugged Up

Oct 12, 2010

My wife and I always leave our MBP plugged up when we are near a charger. This morning the MBP had been plugged up all night, but the battery was dead. I noticed the light was out on the charger so I went to take it out, but when I touched it it turned red indicating that it was now charging. It turns out it is very finicky and randomly stops charging. Anybody else had problems with their charger? It will be Thursday before I have a chance to get to the Apple store.

MacBook Pro :: Dead PRAM Battery Causing Failed Startup?

Jul 28, 2008

one of my Al Powerbooks decided to kernel panic twice in the past two days and both times fail to start up afterwards. The symptoms would be that when I pushed the power button, I wouldn't hear the Apple startup sound and it would just sit there.

Well, after a few tries and some sadness, I decided to remove the PRAM battery card and voila, computer boots up perfectly! This has actually happened twice (removed PRAM card, booted up, then put PRAM card back in, then eventually exact same situation occurred again), does anyone know if a PRAM battery card can possibly wreak suck havok on a G4 running Leopard.

MacBook :: MacBook 3,1 Screen Goes Dim When Plugged In / Battery Is Almost Dead

Apr 2, 2012

MacBook 3,1 screen goes dim when charger plugged in. Battery is all but dead. Green light is on on the charger cord connector at computer. Computer turns on then goes dim after a few minutes. Can a dead battery cause this, i.e., is it worth it to get a new battery to try and save this?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 - Battery Dead

Sep 8, 2007

My mum has an trusty iBook G4, and finally, after ~4 years now, the battery is on the fritz. I have tried resetting PMU, but it appears the battery itself is on the way out. Is it worth purchasing a new battery for it? Or should I tell her to take the plunge and buy a low-end Macbook [non pro] to replace it?

Hardware :: Mac OS 9.1 Not Booting Up - Battery Dead

Jul 5, 2008

I had a quick question that I'm sure one of you guys can answer. I have a PB Wallstreet 266mhz and it works fantastic minus the fact that the battery is dead and the pram doesn't seem to be functioning. On the rare occasion that I cold boot it I get nothing onscreen for about 15 seconds..then I get the good ole greyscreen and onto the Mac OS 9.1 loading screen. Is this normal for this type of powerbook? Is it because the PRAM and main battery are dead?

PowerPC :: Leopard On TiBook - Battery Dead

Apr 24, 2009

I have the 1GHz Ti Book, 15", 1GB PC133 memory, 60GB 4200 RPM drive, Tiger, and it's awesome. Battery is basically dead (10 min). I do typical web/email stuff.I also do some music recording and it works fine. Watching video is difficult on [URL] though. I need to upgrade to Leopard as I want to start doing Web Development using Rapid Weaver. The new version of Rapid Weaver requires Leopard. So, while I'm planning on purchasing a new machine soon, I wonder if it's worth spending the money to:

1) buy Leopard for my TiBook (are there performance issues?)
2) buy a 7200RPM drive (for performance)

in order to run Rapid Weaver 4.0 or not.

OS X :: MBP Reboots After Dead Battery In Sleep Mode

Jan 21, 2010

So, back in the day, when my MacBook Pro's battery would die while asleep or on and you plug it back in, the laptop would essentially revive itself from your last used state. Its like waking from sleep, but takes longer because the computer has backup the memory state to the hard drive.

Its seems my MacBook Pro no longer does this. When the battery dies and I turn it on, it reboots. I am not sure if it is related, but I have modified my MacBook Pro by removing the optical drive and replacing it with an 80GB Intel SSD to compliment the 500GB 7200rpm Seagate. The SSD is the boot disk and is in the DVD Drive's old spot.

PowerPC :: Charger - Not Glowing Green / Amber - Battery Dead

Oct 30, 2010

I have a 17" PB with a couple of growing issues. Right now I am unable to use it for one of several reasons. About a year ago I purchased a charger off of Ebay to replace the original one that started sparking. Shortly after I received the new charger I started having issues with the charger connecting. I would have to twist it and turn it to find the right spot. Now, it doesn't glow green or amber at all. That sweet spot is completely gone. Also, the battery is completely dead. It needs to be replaced. Not sure at this point if I'm sitting on a dead charger or if I need to replace the DC-In board. I have never had a major accident with the machine but I do recall snagging the chord once or twice. It is possible something was damaged inside when that happened. I've never had an issue like this so I'm not too sure about the symptoms. I'm thinking a new charger would be the cheapest and safest start. I don't feel very confident purchasing one from Ebay again.

MacBook :: Battery Icon Sometimes Shows No Battery Or If It Shows Battery Is Recognized, It Isn't Charged

Jan 4, 2010

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

MacBook :: Unable To Use System With Battery / Computer Shuts Down Hwen Start From Battery

Apr 18, 2008

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.

When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Charge Battery / Charging Stucks At 99 Percent With Service Battery

Aug 20, 2010

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

MacBook Air :: Battery Drains Extremely Fast In Sleep Mode / Battery Down To 16% From 29%

Jan 6, 2009

I get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!

For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Lights Show Full Battery But Won't Turn On?

Apr 2, 2012

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning.

It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery?

MacBook :: Battery No Longer Holds Long Charge / Worth Pursuing A Replacement Battery?

Jun 2, 2009

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.

The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?

MacBook Pro :: Late 2008 15 Battery Life - Watching Movie From Hard Disk Use Less Battery Than DVD?

Nov 11, 2009

i just ordered a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with the dual GPUs (9400m and 9600m GT) and I'm a little worried about the battery life.

-What can I expect if just doing normal every day stuff (web surfing mostly?)

-does watching a movie off of the hard disk use less battery than watching it off a DVD? Is there a big difference?

I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.

Basically, I'm asking if I made a good purchase considering I have only average concerns for both battery and game performance. They had the new 7 hour battery 15" macbook pro for the same price but it doesn't have the dual GPUs.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Charge Complete Battery / Service The Battery?

Nov 15, 2010

the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.

One more question... What do they mean by "At this point, save your work. Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low, the computer will automatically go to sleep." MacBook :: Good Battery & Terrible Battery Life?

Jul 16, 2009

I have a 13" 2.4 GHZ white macbook that I bought in march of 2008. About 4 months ago I all of the sudden started having problems with battery life. It was very abrupt. I used to be able to take my macbook and sit through 3 classes or more with no trouble in regards to batter life. Then suddenly the battery would drain within a few hours. It has remained that way since.

I've spent the last month or so looking around forums and other places to try and find someone with a similar problem and possible solutions. As a result I've discovered that my situation seams to be somewhat unique.

Using cocoanut battery I tested my battery's capacity and it remains at a solid 98%. How can my battery still be at 98% capacity and have such a short battery life? I also seam to be losing charge while my macbook is closed. How and why does that happen? If I leave my macbook closed for a day or two it can lose up to 25% charge just sitting there!

I've tried loads of things including turning off unnecessary things such as sharing and bluetooth and calibrating my battery, all with no avail.

What is going on?? My battery is too old to be eligable for a recal and I'm not paying $30 just to have a phone conversation with a "Genius". If anyone has any idea what's going on and any possible advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
