A friend did something that changed the display on my Macbook Pro. The background is weird and distorted and seems to be out of focus. I want to restore factory settings but without the trouble of reinstalling all of the programs. Can it be done and if so, how? I will watch for a reply.
View 1 RepliesI was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

I've just bought a new Seagate 500Gb hybrid HDD (the hybrid has 4Gb of SSD attached ) . So the question is:
OPTION ONE - back up my old drive and then restore it onto the new one, and save all my settings
OPTION TWO - reinstall all OS and programmes from OS discs and have a fresh start
On my old desktop Windows PC (sorry!) it was always worth starting from a clean install when Windows died, to get rid of any bugs ..BUT WITH A MAC?

I watched a couple videos on how to but there are steps they do that I can't . Like when you shut off your macbook and turn it back on holding the "options" button well I don't have that choice of "recovery hd" There is only 1 icon on my screen when pushing the options button and the only choice I have is the"macintosh hd".There aren't two choices like all the videos show ,the videos show "macintosh hd" and "recovery hd".

View 9 Replies View RelatedEarly 2011 15" MBP with Lion (purchased new July 22, 2012). I had a two year old MBP running Snow Leopard then upgraded to Lion. The computer got flooded. I took out the hard drive and put it in a portable hard drive case and used it to restore my new MBP running Lion. It seemed to go very smooth and very easy. I am not a very knowledgable computer person, I use the computer for Photoshop, iTunes and email and just barely know not to turn it off with the on/off button! I keep noticing that I have two of many things in the computer, like library, multiple systems and multiple hard drives. I also get conflicting amounts of free hard drive space. I feel that I mistakenly copied too much stuff. I have backed up my files onto a fire wire hard drive. I want to "push a button" and have the computer go back to the way it was the day I bought it. This time, I will take the time and move the files and programs manually (there are not that many). I am affraid a typical restore from Time Machine will only bring back the problems I am trying to get away from.

I've restarted my computer to factory settings, but for wahtever reason, it has been stuck on the blue screen (similar to what you see when you turn on a mac) and refuses to go beyond that. Does anybody know why this mite be happening??? did i do something to mess it up??? (earlier i restarted it when it first hit the blue screen because i thought it froze or something). I have a Vizio 22" HD monitor and it works great at 1680x1024 but don't know how to get those settings into my Macbook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a rev. A MBA and it does two odd things. If I set the display to full brightness, then power down and back up, the display doesn't return to full brightness. I have to go into the display preferences pane and move the slider a fraction of an inch to return to full brightness. The "adjust brightness for ambient light" and "reduce brightness on this power source" are disabled, so that isn't it. Also, the MBA forgets the brightness setting for the keyboard when it is powered off and then on again. As best I can determine the keyboard brightness is set to a random level at power up. I've used MacBook Pros for years, so I don't think it's anything I'm doing.
