MacBook Pro :: Battery Staying At 100%?

Jun 17, 2012

My macbook pro is the 13 inch model from summer 2009. Has ran great for 4 years, but for the past few days it has been stuck at 100%. I know that it is not 100% battery because i drained the battery on purpose to see if it would reset.

MacBook Pro :: Magsafe Light Staying On After Its Unplugged

Jul 11, 2009

My Magsafe charger started acting really odd today. It started with the light not working when I was charging the computer. Even tough the light didn't come on the computer still said it was charging. I unplugged it for a bit & plunged it back in. This time the light came on & it was green even though it wasn't fully charged. But now when i unplug it, the light stays on as long as its plugged into the wall. The only thing I've changed lately is I replaced the hard drive, but its been about a week and this just started happening tonight.

MacBook Pro :: Staying Awake When Lid Closed - Unable To Resume When Opened

Sep 1, 2010

When my screen is closed the computer continues to run, and does not respond when the monitor is reawakened. Furthermore, upon shutdown, I have to remove the battery and reset power management in order to get the computer to turn on. If I just shut it down, the computer refuses to come on, hearing the hard drive make its sound before just going out to lunch.

Disk Utility says the hard drive is okay because it would not get past the black screen.

OS X :: MBP Not Staying Asleep After Upgrading To SL

Sep 19, 2009

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, My MBP refuses to stay asleep. I usually put it to sleep and then close the laptop. After 30 min to a few hours of remaining in sleep mode, it will wake up on its own. Since it is in clamshell mode, it goes back into sleep mode and then immediately wakes up again and remains in this endless cycle. Annoying when I am trying to sleep. Below is what appears in the logs each time it wakes up:
I did an upgrade from 10.5.8. The only USB device installed is a mouse. I did some research and did not find much. I deleted the files in LibraryPreferencesSystemConfiguration and rebooted. I also removed the Airport service and readded it. I thought the cause was Airport but now I am not so sure. Any ideas? I am not having any other issues.

OS X :: Apps Not Staying In Their Spaces In SL.?

Sep 21, 2009

I've got my spaces set up in a very straightforward and intuitive way (for me at least). I've got Internet in one, word processing in one, media in one, and Mail/Address Book/iCal in one.

Lately, though, it seems like none of the apps will stay in their assigned spaces. iTunes will end up in another space; Mail will end up in the wrong place; and clicking on Mail will bring up iCal in the wrong space.

Software :: How To Prevent ITunes From Staying On Top

Jun 19, 2009

make it go behind another window on which I click. It won't go back. Stays on top.

Windowshade lets me reduce it to just the title bar, but I'd like the window still open — and not minimized to the dock.

In the prefs I do find a box to check (or uncheck) for the miniplayer and videos, but nothing for the main window (unless I'm just duh, overlooking something—not unusual.)

Any pointers? I'm OK with Terminal, if anyone has the magic words there.

OS X :: Staying Signed On With IChat Even After Disconnect?

Aug 29, 2009

After reading about the Wake-on-Demand feature of Snow Leopard, it got me thinking about why I never put my iMac to sleep.

The reason is because if i put it to sleep, I lose my network connection.

In other words, the only reason I keep my iMac awake: to stay signed on with iChat.

(There's other stuff too, like downloading something or seeding a torrent, but they are very rare occasions, and I wouldn't mind turning sleep off for those, then turn it back on once done).

I think AIM or Apple should introduce a feature where you can stay signed on even after you disconnect, like how it works with the iPhone. That way your computer can go to sleep, and you will still receive your messages. You will receive them as soon as you wake up your Mac and re-connect to the internet.

Hardware :: G4 - Stopped Staying Asleep

Jul 1, 2009

A few days ago my iBook G4 stopped staying asleep, but not in every situation. Here are the various scenarios....Close lid, computer plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up; Close lid, computer not plugged in, computer stays asleep; Choose "Sleep" from menu, computer plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up; and Choose "Sleep" from menu, computer not plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up.

I should note that there is nothing in the CD drive; it's empty. I tried such things as resetting the nvram, pram and pmu, all to no avail. Last night I reformatted and reinstalled the original system software using the original installation disks, which put me back to OS 10.3.xx. STILL DOESN'T WORK!

I have an iBook with a combo drive running 10.3.4 and access to a new powerbook with a superdrive. I would like to make a complete back up of my computer onto DVD so I restore should I have any problems while I am away.

How would I do this so I can restore off the DVD's? If I can do this I dont need to carry all my other software CD's etc and I can save some space.

MacBook :: Battery Icon Sometimes Shows No Battery Or If It Shows Battery Is Recognized, It Isn't Charged

Jan 4, 2010

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

MacBook :: Unable To Use System With Battery / Computer Shuts Down Hwen Start From Battery

Apr 18, 2008

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.

When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Charge Battery / Charging Stucks At 99 Percent With Service Battery

Aug 20, 2010

I calibrated my battery for the first time since Dec. When I plugged it in this morning, it took 3 hours to charge all the way, and now it's stuck on 99% full, 0:00 till completely charged, and I'm getting an error when I click on the battery in the menu bar that says "Service Battery". When I click on the error, it tells me that it may not be functioning properly and to take it to an authorized apple service retailer. Before I waste 2 hours by going to the Apple store and back, has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it without having it looked at?

MacBook Air :: Battery Drains Extremely Fast In Sleep Mode / Battery Down To 16% From 29%

Jan 6, 2009

I get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!

For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Lights Show Full Battery But Won't Turn On?

Apr 2, 2012

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning.

It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery?

MacBook :: Battery No Longer Holds Long Charge / Worth Pursuing A Replacement Battery?

Jun 2, 2009

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.

The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?

MacBook Pro :: Late 2008 15 Battery Life - Watching Movie From Hard Disk Use Less Battery Than DVD?

Nov 11, 2009

i just ordered a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with the dual GPUs (9400m and 9600m GT) and I'm a little worried about the battery life.

-What can I expect if just doing normal every day stuff (web surfing mostly?)

-does watching a movie off of the hard disk use less battery than watching it off a DVD? Is there a big difference?

I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.

Basically, I'm asking if I made a good purchase considering I have only average concerns for both battery and game performance. They had the new 7 hour battery 15" macbook pro for the same price but it doesn't have the dual GPUs.

the unit (battery) has been replaced previously due to being considered 'under performing'. Is Snow Leopard trying to encurate it's users to replace the battery more frequently? If not, does anyone know why this appears? I'm at lost, since it appears to work fine, if not charging completely.

MacBook :: Unable To Charge Battery / Service Battery Message

Jul 20, 2010

So, I randomly clicked on my battery and noticed this "Service Battery" message. I had never seen it before. Obviously, this isn't a good thing. Even though charger says it's green, my battery isn't even charging. Should I make an appointment with Apple? My AppleCare expired so i'll have to buy a new battery when the time comes. MacBook Pro :: Battery Life Slightly Shorter After Calibrating Battery

I calibrated my MacBook Pro battery and then noticed that the battery life seemed slightly shorter after that. I calibrated it according to this: [URL]

Just wondering if I have done anything wrong...

One more question... What do they mean by "At this point, save your work. Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low, the computer will automatically go to sleep." Does it mean that I have to use the computer until it just shuts down or should I shut it down once the "Low Battery" warning pops up?
