Someone switched off the power to my iMac the other day. Since I've rebooted:a] System Profiler shows no awareness of FireWire ("Unable to list FireWire devices" in red) b] Every boot takes about five minutes, 3+ of which seems to be spent waiting for a response from the FireWire socket (the logs show a 3-minute gap followed by a line that goes something like this:"/usr/lib/exec/hidd: Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet")
c] if it's idle long enough to go to sleep, it goes into a kernel panic (the last line in the log before the panic says"kernel[0]: IOPMSlotsMacRISC4::determineSleepSupport has canSleep true")b] looks connected to a], but I can't see any connection with c] (apart from the reference to IO).

I am using a Compaq 17 inch display as a second and have been doing so for several weeks with no issues. However after my last re-boot for an update to OSX, iTunes,..., no more than a week ago, the second disply now does not appear for around 2 to 3 mins after I restart or come out of sleep mode.

I am having a really strange problem with my MBP (Stats are in my Sig) running 10.6.1. Whenever I start or restart my computer, the keyboard and track pad click are unresponsive at the login/password screen. The computer recognizes them and eventually enters them but the delay is almost 2 minutes long! I have logged out without restarting and I do not have this issue. I have tired repairing permissions, and resetting PRAM. I am thinking about an Archive and Install.

I have a problem since i upgraded to an Intel SSD for my early 2011 MBP. My MBP not always but often when i start Mac OS Lion, delays to start, i boot normal in OS Lion but everything is in slow motion. When that happens i reboot my MBP and my problem solves only with a reboot.
Here are some examples
Ex.1 : Normally my Mac will boot in a few seconds > Takes 5 times more.
Ex.2 : Every think i do lags (opening a program, a preview, a folder,ext.)

Does anybody experience any delays with the auto graphics switching on the late 2010 MBPs? I mean serious delays? Mine seems to be very slow at making the switch. Say if I open a PDF that has a load of images in and start to scroll at high speed to scan the document, everything becomes very stuttery. Then, after a while (very random in how long it takes) everything starts to get smoother, when I assume the NVIDIA kicks in. I thought this was meant to be more-or-less instantaneous?

When I press the start button there is a delay of 3-4 seconds before the computer turns on and the sign in screen appears. Then when I shutdown it takes up to 4 minutes to actually turn off the screen.
I also ran a diagnostic check and received the error code HDD/11/4000000:SATA (0,0)... What I do next?

This is on the new 2010 MBPs. This may also be the behavior with prior MBPs as well though. When I drag something, window or icon, and release my finger from the trackpad to set it in place, if my finger promptly touches down on the trackpad again so I can proceed with other tasks, the dragged object actually remains in focus and continues being dragged. I found that I have to artificially force myself to wait roughly a full second before I could resume contact with the trackpad without continuing the object-drag. Is there any way to configure this differently, either within OSX or with a freeware program?

Ive been using Mac for almost a month now from purchasing my first Mac on my birthday. Ive got to say its an entire new experience and i love it something that is surely credited in my IT course i am currently studying as a student. Now i love the Mac Pro however being a perfectionist i do have a couple of issues.
One of them being with the system sounds when you receive an email or your battery is dying or your dragging something off the dock and you receive the puff sound. Now something i seem to be experiencing is quite a delay between these actions or sounds or at times no sound at all. Im guessing this is a software issue as i cant see any reasonable hardware explanation.
My second issue is the battery over just a months of use (taking care of battery letting it have normal cycles) it seems to have dropped form an estimated usage of about 5 hours to 3 fully charged basically pretty much idle other than safari open on a basic webpage. The next and final issue is the click when moving the mac i believe its the SMS motion thing, ive heard its possible to turn this off but how?
Last but not least :P im thinking of upgrading the hardrive at some point either to a faster 7200rmp or a Solid state, what would you recommend specifically for the mac? rather than in general also would this void my warranty or would apple do it based on my extended Apple Care package?

I want to hook my Macbook Pro up to a Sony Bravia (not sure of the exact model). I went to the Apple Store, and was given these two items to hook it up. Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support. Belkin High Speed HDMI Cable - 6 feet
We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.

how I can delay mail being sent. I am a recent convert from Outlook.... Outlook as the ability to put the mail in the outbox and then I tell it when I want to Send & Receive.
I find this very useful. How do I get my mac to do this? I have searched the preferences but found nothing. It seems like such a simple request...
Some other questions re: mail.
On the top line in mail where the headings are: From, Subject, Date Received. How do I add Size to the list or any other heading- Are there others?
Also What is the 'Speech Bubble' icon signify on that some line?
How do I click on a mail message in mail to delete it Without it opening the message. Or opening the one underneath it.

Trying to figure out if something is up with mine and a buddies machine specifically or they are all buggered....
Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...

- Volume is at max
- System Prefs>Sound>External Speakers>Volume Max>Not Muted
- No red light coming from the headphone jack
- Tried inserting and removing headphones, no sound in speakers or headphones
- Restarted computer while holding down ⌘ + OPT + P + R , no sound made
- A very very faint feedback, like when you plug an electric guitar in to an amp, can be heard when the first sound (the mac start up chime) is supposed to play on restart
- USB headphones work

I am looking for a way to delay the startup of the items in my "Login Items" and Startup items/LaunchDaemons. I have Lingon which helps to easily manage startup but there isn't any option to delay the startup of the app.
Is there any settings in OSX or a 3rd party app that can achieve this?

I have a real problem accessing the internet from my iMac. I have tried Safari, Opera & Firefox (all current versions) and there is always a 30 second delay before the internet page is displayed. I also have a MacBook accessing the same internet connection via AE and it does not suffer any delay!
I have cleaned the system with Onyx, removed unwanted languages with Multilingual and also removed unwanted printer drivers. Everything else appears to be functioning normally - iPhoto boots up when I connect a camera; iTunes loads when I connect an iPhone; and the printer works.
It has only happened in the last 48hrs, and I have not downloaded any new applications, movies etc, or access Limewire - or similar.

I installed SMC Firmware Update 1.5, EFI Firmware Update 2.7 and Airport Utility 6.0. After installing these updates my internet connection got delayed. Wi-Fi connection seem to be fine, but it takes about half minute before my browsers get through to the net. I have tried several browsers and different networks (at home and at work) and same issue every time a new connection is made or old one is re-estabilished.
Have you any idea how to fix the problem, or should I uninstall the updates. And if so, how is it done?

Just recently my iMac has started experiencing a noticeable delay in waking up from sleep. It is set to have a password to allow access and normally, a nudge of the mouse and up pops the password entry panel. Now the screen stays black for 10-15 seconds which in the grand scheme of things is neither here nor there but still annoying. Nothing changed to the best of my knowledge in the system. Probably a corrupt preference file maybe but if so, which one?

I tried the SMC & PRAM reset. Now, there is a delay in my keyboard and mouse. For example as I am writing this, as I type, I am observing a ~1/4 sec delay between me pressing a key and the GUI registering it. The same with the mouse. I can click-and-hold over say File and move it up and down over subsequent menu items and it the GUI doesn't highlight the menu item unless I slow down the movement.

This Imac 7.1 2ghz, 20" is less than a year old. I switched because it promised friendlier functioning especially for my wife. I use Parallels for XP/Quicken only. What drives me crazy is a 2-5 second delay for almost anything I do: scroll, copy, move cursor, any art or photo ops and TYPing. I read all the things to reduce the Pinwheel and did them. Finally I added 2 more Gigs of memory (total 4) and it made no difference. Activity monitor shows tons of free memory.
I cannot believe that I use my tiny Asus to type most of my stuff now because on the iMac I can type something then in the middle of a word, count 'one thousand 1-3 then sometimes get a pinwheel for 2 counts and it resumes typing. It does not seem to matter much if I close everything else (wow that eliminates all that handy windows stuff Apple is famous for).

Everything seems ok until I wanted to animate a picture. I guess this version doesn't come with ImageReady because I don't have it. But I have found a way around that. The problem is when I say "Save for Web" and it comes up with all the options. I keep it transparent and click the animation box. The animation options are now available for use. But I can't change the delay per frame or whether I want it to loop or not. When I click on these options nothing happens.

Has anyone been experiencing a delay or lag time with videochatting in Snow Leopard? It never manifests itself at first, but after about 4-5 minutes of videochatting, all communication begins to run on about a 3-5 second delay. Essentially, videochat seems broken to me with this problem.
Additionally, whenever I invite people to chat, I am unable to hear the other side and have to attempt to connect multiple times before audio works both ways.
10.6.1 dropped yesterday, but these problems continue to manifest themselves in every videochat that I am having. I tried lowering my bandwidth limit in the "Audio/Video" preference pane for ichat, but it didn't rectify either issue.

About three days ago I started having a strange latency problem with my internet connection. When I click on a link, it takes a long time to load and sometimes doesn't load at all. If I click on the "stop" button and then "reload", it loads very quickly. This doesn't happen every time I click a link, or with every link I click, but it's happening often enough that it's seriously slowing down my browsing. I'm on a Mac Pro connected via ethernet to a Comcast high speed cable connection. The cable modem is also connected to a D-Link router with a wireless network, which we use for the three other computers in the house. Here's the strange thing: the other three computers aren't having the same latency problem. It's just my Mac Pro connected directly to the network that's having the problem.

I have a Mac Pro tower with Snow Leopard, and there is a long delay, sometimes 5-6 seconds long, before files open up after being clicked on within the Finder window. The delay happens with any file, such as a MS Word file, .jpg file, .pdf file, whatever. The result is always the same - a long delay before the file opens. It doesn't seem to matter if the file is large in size or not. Before the Mac Pro I had a G5 and it opened files much faster than this brand new Mac Pro.
