MacBook Pro :: Adapter Light Dim (No Charge) Shuts Down Sporadically
Dec 31, 2009
MacBook Pro, bought in April of 2007. I've had this thing for almost three years now and I love it. It's my baby and has been with me through alot. Anyways, I've never had a problem with it before until now. Actually I take that back, the battery went ka-put about a year or so ago when it was under warranty. Regardless, here's the problem: The LED doesn't shine anymore. It's really dim. The battery does not charge at all, it's stuck at 0%, so right now I'm stuck with a really cool desktop.
When I play music from my computer on my stereo, the line out feed has a lot of static interference, like theres a ground or something in the metal casing of the computer. The computer randomly shuts down. I've come to notice it normally does this when it is under "too much" stress. (ie: too many windows or applications open) I use quotations because I bought it w the 3gb upgrade and it never has problems w RAM, so for it to be shutting down the computer when only 4 safari windows or tabs are open is bull..
Sometimes my MacBook will shut off for no reason, and then it won't charge anymore. It takes a lot of effort to get it to start charging again, but I don't get it. I don't know what's wrong with it. It just started happening randomly, I don't know what to do. It's under warranty, but I wanted to see if anyone else was having this problem as well? If there's any quick fixes please let me know
My MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2009 has recently started to shutdown unexpectedly when it starts running on battery power, I don't know if its the battery or the motherboard (I hope it isn't).
I tried resetting everything, reinstalled the whole OS, repaired permissions (don't know what for), but I keep getting this. It started about a month ago when I tried to boot up from the battery as power source:
The first try went all the way through the apple showing up with the spinning symbol underneath it, then POOF. Then everytime I tried to boot up again it didn't even show the Apple logo, just 5 or 6 seconds after the chime, POOF AGAIN.
So I connected it to the power adapter and everything went OK, I started working on it, everything was fine until I disconnected it. I kept working on battery and 2 minutes later the computer died again, it sounded like when you keep pressing the power button to force-shutdown, like it's protecting itself from something and it's very frustrating not being able to use your LAPTOP as one.
Oh, one more thing, the battery icon says "Service Battery" and it shows only 1 hour of battery (on 100% charge) the 2 minutes I can work on it before it shuts down.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Mountain Lion 10.8 DP 4
l tried to turn on my macbook pro this morning, but it doesn't turn on. When l press power, the fan and sleep light come on. but after about one second, it shuts down. The chime and screen dont come on.
my power cord comes unplugged. my battery is 100% charged, and yet whenever the magsafe comes unplugged the whole thing shuts down. I notice the sleep light blinks rapidly a few times then when my cord goes back in things restore? Edit: My macbookpro is a Unibody which is less then 6 months old. I received it as a replacement unit from apple (due to a lemon macbookpro i originally had) Which i figured means that the battery cant be bad, i take extremely good care of my computer.
I have not used my MacBook for a couple of days n today realised it needed charging when I come to use it so I plugged it in. I get a green flashing light but it won't charge? I have only had it since April so can't see it being the mac is it the charger itself?
It started last night when my adapter freyed, melted and became useless (a common problem with the MagSafe). I called to bitch to Apple, but they just wanted to make sure nobody died and no houses burned down and then told me to go buy a new adapter. I did that today, but now my computer wont hold a charge and is stuck at 0% and shows the charged icon over the battery. The weird thing is that the light on the MagSafe head is an extremely dim green. You need to turn the lights off to really see that it is lit, but very weakly.
So, I went back to the Apple store and tried the charger on a different computer and it worked fine. And we tried a completely different charger on my macbook and the same dimly lit light thing happened. So i dont think its the charger. Then we put my battery in a different macbook and it took a charge. So i dont think its the battery. Any ideas??? Is it a coincidence my 18 month old hassle-free (until now) macbook has had two problems in the last 24 hrs? It isn't under warranty.
So I have a Late 2009 Macbook Pro, it came with the original magsafe adapter. The adapter doesn't always work all the time, sometimes theres a really dim green light.
One of the prongs that go into the wall is slightly bent so it might be because of that.
My question is will Apple replace this charger for me? Do they give the new magsafe adapters as replacements or will they give me an old one?
I just got my new MBA 13" ultimate and this battery never seems to be fully charged (system shows 99% charging for over 1 hour now) and magsafe light been amber throughout the entire time. I'm worried it may be a battery problem, tried resetting SMC two times but no effect.
i just got my MBA on monday and now the magsafe adaptor doesn't work anymore, it flashes green light and does not charge. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?
I have a 2008 Macbook and when the power is plugged in, the light is green, however my battery will not charge, and it even says at the top "battery is not charging" If I remove the power cord from the computer it will still run off the remaining % of the battery, but If I reconnect the cord it lights up green and I never see the amber charging color. I traded out my battery as well as a different cord and still the same results. My battery will charge up on a friends macbook, but not on my own. I want to take it to the apple store but I'm at school and there is no store near me.
A few hours ago my MBP (15" from January 2011) had almost no battery, so I plugged in the charger - but nothing happened. No green or orange light - or indicator on finder. I went to System Information which confirmed that it had 0% battery left and it wasn't charging, even with the MagSafe correctly plugged in.
I checked the wall connector and it's functioning well on other devices. The battery eventually died and now my macbook won't turn on. The light on the adapter and on the side of the notebook flashes green inconsistently. It won't turn on since it has no battery. I've tried reseting the SMC but nothing happend.
My battery died while listening to music today and when I plugged in the power supply, the computer will not accept the charge and the power supply light is blinking yellow but very faint.
So, often than not my charger when I connect it to my mac will take forever to turn the little green/orange light on and so it won't charge I don't know what the issue is.
I have my MacBook Pro won't charge while connected to the wall charger but still acknowledges it is connected and appears to be running off of the wall itself. no LED is on either. Just began happening all of a sudden. No Warning.
Sooooo I just got my brand shiny new CTO 4GB 13.3 MBA this morning at about 9:45 am yesterday in Illinois. I was sposed to go to bed because I am working nights at the moment but i stayed up for hours setting it up and playing with it (my first MAC) and so I finally get home after working a 12 hour night shift and open up my new MBA expecting instant on and....nothing. The damn thing will not turn on and I tried all the tricks of the trade (suggested by apple support page) and nothing. It was fully charged when I left it in the morning. Also, my magsafe charge light is green which means it is still fully charged right??? Man what a super disappointment. My first MAC and it freaking dies immediately. My Win 7 desktop at least started...good ole faithful (granted it took about 55 seconds...pff)
I had my original MBP charger replaced a while ago because the magsafe adapter light was not working. (but it charged the computer fine, weirdly enough) Then, about a month ago, the light on that one went out too. The apple store replaced it with one of the new MBA chargers style. That one worked for about a day, and now intermittently goes off. What is wrong here?
My iBook G4 is 3 years old. I have 2 problems: My latest problem is that it won't charge the battery. I bought a new Ac Adaptor, and I used my battery and my adaptor in another G4 and it charges, but not in my computer. So I know the problem is INSIDE my computer. My father replaced the.DC-inboard when the pin off of my old charger broke off inside the computer.
2.) Now the computer won't turn on. If it does turn on it shuts off 20 seconds later.
There is no warranty, I don't know where to start with fixing it since I can't get it to stay on.!
My school-computer (iBook 14" 1,42 Ghz G4, running OSX 10.4.10) has developed some unpleasant habbits lately. With lots of batterycharge left, 28-50%, it shuts down without warning. I try to restart it, and it gets to various stages of booting before shutting down again. It won't run untill i plug in the powercable, and then it starts of from almost half full charge. I did a bit of searching on the forums, and installed coconutbattery with the attached (depressing) result. Tried resetting the pmu, which didn't stop it from shutting down on me again 46 mins later. Does this mean I need to replace the battery?
It all started this evening where I plugged my adapter into my macbook to charge. Instead of the usual bright orange light, it was a very dim orange and was barely visible and flickers occasionally. When plugged in, it stated "Not Charging". After awhile, I decided to try again but this time it was a dim green. Still not charging. I tried airing it for a bit, and tried again. This time it didn't light up at all. Just a while ago, I realized it was able to charge again (Bright Orange). However, I noticed it never seemed to turn green so I tested it out by removing my battery.
Even after removing, the lights below the battery were on and moving as if it was still charging. (Hope you understand what I mean). After a while it stopped though. So I tried draining my battery. It went till about 3hrs (at 100% its 4hrs) and I tried charging it again. Immediately after connecting it, the display went to show "Fully charged" with the bright green light. I disconnected it and it stayed at 100% for a while before changing to 90%. Sometimes it works perfectly while other times it just decides to go bonkers. I will try using a diff adapter tomorrow to see if the problem is in the adapter. (Probably is)
The battery don't charge and the power adapter light stays green, I didn't noticed it before the battery was empty. I have had problems with the adapter before and just reconnected the power a couple of times and it starts to charge again and the light turns orange but if I touch the adapter now the computer shuts down.
I just bought a 74w NewerTech battery about 3 weeks ago but I don't think that is the problem....
I can run my iBook off of the AC adapter fine but when I unplug it it automatically shuts off as if there is no battery in it.
It shows that the battery is charging and everything in the menubar but when I unplug it, it will shut off. This just happened today and earlier today I was working on it with the battery working fine.
I also switched out to the old stock battery and it does the same thing.
I think it has to be hardware related. I have reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM and it didn't help. Also when I started the computer back up it said that my clock was reset. Feedback is much appreciated.

My adapter caught on fire, and I had to put it out. When I tried to charge my battery with a new adapter, it would not charge. I got another battery, (old one from a friend), that apparently had some juice left on it. The computer turned on no problem, and I used it for about 20 minutes when I noticed that the battery was slowly dying, and that it would not charge again. Now, its dead again. It will not charge. Does this sound like a logic board problem? Who can I contact?
well it does charge just not how it should. when i plug the ibook into the power adapter usually nothing happens. i have to jiggle the plug in just the right way to get it to charge and this involves putting pressure on it in some direction. it has gotten worse so now i have to have constant pressure on it for it to charge. i have tried 2 different chargers so i know its not that. i was thinking maybe the DC board but i was not sure.
The iBook battery will not charge nor will the light on the charger show any color when plugged in. The battery time until full charge icon is stuck on "calculating."
1) The charger is fine since I checked it on another iBook. (Light comes on and changes appropriately.) 2) I have multiple batteries so any one individual battery is not the problem. Also it registers the proper charge capacity. 3) I've reset the PMU and it does not help.
