Baring in mind I havnt got my 17" i7 2.8 in the post yet..
I'm thinking I can install the new drive as soon as I get the Mbp and do a fresh install as I'm assuming I'll get the iLife disks with the laptop so I can install it? Aswell as the OS cd's too?
I am trying to decide whether to get the 2010 model or the cheaper 2009 model. These are the differences that I've found so far for the base model. For arguments sake, let's say they both have 4gb ram (most people selling them have upgraded to 4gb)
2010: 2.4ghz, longer battery, nvidia 320m
2009: 2.26ghz, (slightly) shorter battery, nvidia 9400m
Having a slightly slower cpu, less battery life (about 7 hours rather than 9) and a slightly weaker gpu don't bother me so much, as I will be mostly using the macbook pro for internet surfing and writing word documents
My question is, are there any other differences? (that would make me go for the 2010 rather than the 2009 model) - maybe differences in the display? shape? something else?
i am contemplating buying a late 2008 mbp air i found for $800 on CL. it has the 1.86 ghz 2gig ram and an 128 gb ssd. would that be comparable to the new 2010 version? i know the new one will edge it out, but by how much? i do a lot of art using flash, illustrator, and ps but just want to use this machine occasionally when i travel, ill have another machine for the heavy lifting if needed be. is that a good deal? or should i just wait and get the 2010 version which is double that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedPC World (in the UK) are selling the old 2.66GHz 15" model for 1,149 (rather than 1,499 for the new model).
The differences between it and the new model are summarised below (as I understand them)
Battery: Old: 5hr, New:7hr non-swappable
Display: New: Better colour gamut (apparently?)
Processor: Old: 6MB cache, New: 3MB cache
Card bay: Old: Express34, New: SD
Of the above only the battery life is of any relevance to me (unless the display quality is really that different?). The SD card would be marginally more useful than the Express card.
I've been contemplating recently (as most mac users do) about switching my 2 year old MBP (2.2 ghz, 2gb ram, 8600m) to the new MBP (15" 2.8, newer gfx, touchpad and a few minor details).
I've been eying the ebay prices for some time and my particular model (with charger, snow leopard, original accessories but w/o box) is valued at about 700gbp. Perhaps people might disagree with me here - how much is it really worth ?
My main point / question is really at what point should I ditch the existing MBP in favor of the new mbp - does it really offer me that much of a benefit at this time to upgrade? I'd sure like the new graphics card in there (is it really that much better?) but I'm not sure there's a significant enough difference there.
On the other hand if I wait much longer the MBP will become pretty devalued and not get me much back for the new and improved MBP - maybe apple's going to improve them soon anyway?
I am using Preview version 5.5.2 on Mac OS 10.7.4.Â
1- When I carry out changes on a JPG file, Preview automatically saves the changes to the ORIGINAL FILE! I never press cmd-s or do anything else to save the changes as I want to store the resulting picture in a new file. The original should NEVER be changes! Obviously I am doing something wrong!Â
2- There is no "Save as" menu item in the File menu. Why? Instead there is "Export ..." that I don't really understand. What was wrong with "Save as"? The rest of the world is using "Save as". So why did Apple change this menu item to something different?Â
3- When I export a export a file, it is changed WITHOUT file extension even when you specify the file type like JPEG or PNG. So instead of storing the file as "somename.jpg", it simply stores it as "somename"! Is this again another change of Apple because they think it is better to do so for the user?Â
Never touch a running system! Preview was good enough previously. This modernisation is just a pain!Â

I have the base model 13" MBP in my possession, but I have been trying to return it for a 13" 2.53ghz machine since last Friday. And even until today, they have been out of stock of this particular model. I have called all the Apple Stores in my area and they have been out of stock for about 5-6 days. I checked the online store and all 2.53ghz models (13" or 15") are backordered 5-7 days. All other models ship within 24 hours.
So, what are your experiences at your Apple Store in regards to the stock of 13" 2.53ghz model? Are the higher end 13" selling this well, or could there be a problem producing/sourcing enough 2.53ghz processors?I will continue to wait until they are back in stock until then.
Will apple stores upgrade the ram I want at the time of the purchase?

I am about to buy a computer and just been doing some research. When I went to best buy and ran a geekbench score on the imac it was like around 5800.
A seller on ebay who is selling a Mac Pro 3.0 ghz just ran the score and posted the results of 6214

Based off of this score alone wouldn't it mean that the 2007 Mac Pro is faster than the newer 2010 imac
is the model MB321LLA for Airport Express the newest model which is current selling at Apple?
because I saw some sellers selling this model and I wanna get it but when I check Apple.com, I don't see the the newest model number they are currently selling
I am having issues with Facebook on Safari. Over the past few months Facebook does not act correctly when I load it into Safari. The main issues are Safari no longer stores my FB password. I have cleared it from my keychain, but it will not give me a prompt to save it again. Second, when I am logged into my account, the search box's submit button on the top left will not work (it will not recognize it as a button) and this happens throughout various FB pages with other buttons.
Lastly, it will log me out and I will relog in and it will not let me log in, it just keeps kicking back to the log in page. I can open and operate FB in both Firefox and Camino without a problem. I don't know what is causing this. It just happens with FB and no other sites. I do have AdBlock, but this started to happen before I installed that.
I just upgraded to iPhoto 8 and noticed the contents of the library where not stored in the 'pictures' folder on the 'home' folder as it was on previous versions. However the iPhoto file (in the 'pictures' folder that is) increases in size when photos are added.
Are all your photos embedded in that file?
If not how do you back up your iPhoto library? AND how do you access photos individually outside of the iPhoto app?
I didn't find the folder hierarchy very intuitive in previous versions but at least it was all there in folders in the primary 'pictures' folder.
I installed the Avery download to make business cards. It is just what I need as it is just to make simple personal cards. However, I have a couple of clip art images on my PC I would like to use. How do I find the place DesignPro stores their clip art so I can add something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you have to buy your new iMac from one of the retail stores rather than online you will no doubt have had worries about the keyboard.
With the small keyboard bundled many stores will not allow the option of a larger keyboards. Some people have posted here however that some stores where swapping out keyboards for them, others even managed to get a free full size keyboard sent to them after calling apple and complaining.
I'm hoping people will post their keyboard experiences here along with the apple store they visited to help build up a reference list for others in this situation.
I'll start by saying the apple store in Liverpool ONE , will not, under any circumstances swap out keyboards.
I recently made a purchase from a store that Apple told me was legit. It seems like this store is fraudulent. How can I report it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy macbook running mavericks froze earlier today with everything but the mouse becoming unresponsive, since then I have tried rebooting in safe mode (which has been fine) and then normally a number of times, but everytime I do I always end up with the same problem i started with. I managed to get activity monitor open before it froze the last time and found that mds_stores is running at 99.9% CPU.Â
I understand that it is in relation to spotlight but have spotlight set to look at nothing in system prefs.Â
is there any way I can start up without the system remembering to start the process that is causing mds_stores to run as I feel this is the problem. I have tried quitting the process in activity monitor to no avail.
Anyone have theses in their Apple store yet? checked today and not in denver.

I really, REALLY need the Magic mouse - is it available in the physical, bricks and mortar Apple stores yet?. My local Apple store (Leicester, UK) said call back tomorrow as they're expecting new Mac stock but does that include the Magic mouse? If anyone has bought one, I'd be pleased to hear from you/them.

I've searched the web for a couple of hours and found pretty conflicting answers. In short: I have a 2.53 GHz 15" Unibody late-2009 MBP and I need to upgrade my internal HD. What's the best one? It looks like the main choices are Seagate and Western Digital, but even within those, there are different model names (Momentus, Barracuda, etc...). Is one quieter than the others?
Also, what's the practical difference between 5400 and 7200 RPM? Does it depend on how heavy your usage is? I do run Parallels pretty frequently, so my computer does tend to get close to maximum CPU use.
Im looking to upgrade my stock 160GB harddrive in my uMBP and i wanted some feedback on which would be best. I have done some research and have decided on two different models a

Upgrading my 13" MBP hard drive with OWC's kit.
Should I get a 1TB @ 5400RPM or 500GB @ 7200RPM?
I'm guessing 1TB.
Also, is it safe to do the 8GB RAM kit?
I deal with video and motion graphics.
I bought a MBP13 with a 250 GB. I noticed that the HD is a Seagate 250 GB 5400 rpm.
So i thought I would upgrade it to a Seagate 500 Gb 5400 rpm(Momentus).
Now the noise is noticeable. Not much, but you can hear it.
Should a 500GB harddisk be more noisy than a 250 Gb? I thought it would be the same. The only difference I saw between the two harddisk is that the old HD had a Apple logo on it.
Otherwise its the same brand and model, just with a higher capacity.
If I had upgraded at apple would I have been rid of the noise or is this just something that follows along with the higher capacity?

Looking around the Seagate Momentus XT seems to come top of all the reviews until you research a little more and find that there seem to have been loads of issues with them, esp on macs.
