MacBook Pro :: 2013 Will Not Start Only Fan?
Dec 4, 2014
I left my Mac charging over night. I had not turned it off but had put it on sleep before closing it. When I tried to use it this morning it did not turn on, only the fan started running and does not turn off. Checked battery levels on side and it does not have any lights on even though it was completely charged. The front bottom on light is off as well. When I reconnect the charger it does not light up. Tried to use shift cntrl option per but nothing happens. I did install Yosemite as my OS a few days ago.

Mid-2013 MBA. Computer does not seem to sleep when the lid is closed. Battery drains completely. SMC update has been run. OSX 10.9.4.   No peripherals attached, Bluetooth is off, network sharing is off. In Console I see at least three "Sleep failure" messages...they all begin with 0x00000000 but then have different codes. They are 0x21006c00, 0x1f006fc00, and 0x1f006500.Â

I was playing a trackpad button intensive game and everything was fine. I shut down my game, closed the computer, and went to bed.Â
The next day, I opened my MBA and the physical trackpad button doesn't seem to work properly. If I push it down, I feel the button engage, but unless I'm touching it in the lefthand corner, there is no response on the screen. I've enabled touch-to-click and I can still get the left side to work, but this is really annoying.Â
I can't see any warping in the surface of the trackpad and I don't own a Bluetooth mouse.Â

I'm having difficulties connecting my late-2013 retina display Macbook Pro to my Viewsonic PJD5223 projector. I have a (working) HDMI to VGA adaptor as well as an HDMI to mini-displayport/thunderbolt adaptor, and I have tried using two methods to connect: Â
1. Using he HDMI port directly
2. Using the thunderbolt port through the HDMI/thunderbolt adaptor on the Macbook ProÂ
Neither method appear to working. My Macbook Pro screen begins to blink/flicker, as if connecting then disconnecting rapidly. During the quick flashes, sometimes I can catch a glimpse of successful connection to the projector because the display settings panel for multiple screens appears. Â
I know that my adaptors are working because I can connect my Macbook Pro to my HP monitor with either of the two methods. I can also connect my PC to the projector using the HDMI/VGA adaptor. The problem appears to be specific to the retina display Macbook Pro or a more recent software update because I can connect to the projector using an older 2008 non-retina Macbook Pro.Â

I have a Dell UP2414Q connected via HDMI to my late 2013 15" retina MBP. The built in display is off (clamshell mode).
Sometimes, the display randomly blanks and the monitor reports no signal. This occurs continuosly for a few minutes and then the display goes back to normal. Sometimes I have to plug in/plug out the monitor to make it recover. /var/log/system.log shows no logs while these blinks occur.Â

how to use the super-drive?Â
I received a new late 2013 iMac with 27" Monitor, track pad and super-drive. My problem is with learning to use the super drive. Â
It shows on my monitor and I rename the disc (i.e. Backup 1). I drag the files to the disc folder. Then I eject the disc. When I re-insert the disk it shows blank disk. However the original renamed folder still shows on the monitor with the files and they can be moved to other folders.Â

I had reinstalled the OSX on my MBP a few times so I am not unfamiliar with the process of rebooting from the boot menu, formatting via the disk utility and then reinstalling either via a backup or from the internet backup (as the retina does not have a dvd drive). Doing it this time and I did nothing different, however upon entering the disk utility screen, the main disk image simply wasn't there. I was conducting a reinstall of OSX from the internet and had already downloaded the new software, as you have to do when installing from the internet.
I then came to the disk utility screen, ready to reformat the hard drive and it simply wasn't there at all. The only image there was the one I had just downloaded ready to install. Thinking this extremely strange, I reboot the computer and it takes ages, then comes to a screen with a continually flashing folder symbol with a question mark in it. I have left it like this for 30 mins with no change. So now, I cannot boot normally, and I cannot reinstall a downloaded image on the main SSD because it is not showing at all in the disk utility. I have plugged in an external hard drive and am currently installing a new image on this to try to check where the main hard drive is once it is up and running. As mentioned, it is an early 2013 MBP retina, the warranty is up so cannot take it back to apple.

My computer won't turn on. Earlier today while playin music it just paused itself. I minute later it resumed. Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

My start up disk is my hard drive.Â
Whenever I take the hard drive out my laptop just stops working and it's back to normal when I put the hard drive in, is there a way for me to use my laptop without having to physically have my start up disk (hard drive) plugged into my laptop?

I am not 100% sure what the offical name of the start up noise is when you turn on your Macbook, however that is all I am geeting when I turn it on. I push the power button, it makes that start up noise of the disc drive... sits... and makes the noise again... sits... makes the noise again and so on and so on. The screen doesnt change at all, just blackness. I was able to start it up once with the start up disc and I thought that was the fix, so before going to sleep I powered down. Woke up the next morning same old bs AND it will not start up off the disc again. Another time after letting it sit and try to boot up for awhile (30mins) it finally did! However after 20-30 mins the screen kind of flickered and then everything froze. Can't get it to turn on at all now. Just that noise over and over and over and over again.

First off, let me explain the position I am in. I have the newest 13in MacBook with a 2.4Ghz hard drive. I installed Windows Vista on it recently after I got it. Many times while using Vista, all audio would stop and be replaced with crackling sounds. This would continue until I restarted. I tried going to Dell, downloading drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n WiFi Adapters and installing those, but that caused a worse problem. Windows can no longer find any networks, and when I select the Broadcom WiFi Adapters in Device Manager, it says "This device cannot start." and says it's Code 10 or something.
