MacBook Pro :: 2008 MBP Fans Constantly Run At 2000rpm / No Cpu Hoggin Process?

Sep 9, 2009

Both my left and right fans are constantly running at 2000 rpm. They have not done this before, but over the last week I have noticed this issue. Heat does not seem to be an issue in triggering the fans. I'm so confused on why they're are constantly on now.No CPU hogging processes or high temperatures.

MacBook Pro :: 17" MBP Unibody - Fans Running Constantly And Reboots System

Oct 24, 2009

I need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.

When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?

When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.

PowerPC :: G5 Fans Constantly Running At 4K

Jan 19, 2009

My PowerMac's (G5 Dual 1.8GHz procs) fans seem to run at a solid 4k rpm's regardless of what I'm doing, even with CPU usage set to low. I've taken the whole machine apart, cleaning it with canned air and such, but the problem just won't leave me be. The air coming out of the machine is ice cold, and the temperature readings I'm getting are about 86 degrees F for the CPU's and 70 for the HDD, so I'm not sure what gives.. Slot and Backside fans are running at 255 rpm, but the others are all 4k.

OS X Yosemite :: Process Bird Taking Up To 140% Of CPU And Running Constantly

Dec 9, 2014

Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite/iMac mid-2011...My iMac is really slow to start-up, to run, and to have applications run. I have 32 GB memory, 113 GB hard disk capacity and it has never been slower in its life. There is a process called "bird" that is running almost constantly whenever I run Activity Monitor and it is taking up to 140% of CPU time. What is "bird"? Why is it running constantly and eating up so much CPU time? Why is my iMac so slow running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite?

Other issues on my iMac include: Software Update is supposed to be updating and installing updates automatically and it is not. When I log in, I see a blank white screen with an apple logo and a progress bar below. It takes forever for the progress bar to get 1/4 of the way across, then the screen flashes and the progress bar finishes the remaining 3/4 really fast. And then once logged in, it takes forever for my dock icons to appear, and my iMac hard drive is chattering like crazy even though nothing is running yet. Whenever I launch Safari I get a progress bar in the address field that goes 1/3 of the way across and frequently hangs. All of these issues never happened before Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite.

PowerPC :: Powerbook Fans Are Constantly On - Makes Alot Of Noise

Oct 18, 2007

My fans are constantly going on my g4 powerbook and the noise drives me nuts. I do all sorts of work - graphics (CS2), music recording, multimedia... but even when I am just not doing anything intensive the fans are on.

The fans are at full speed now and the temp reads 37C / 98F. I've used an icurve since I got the machine.I've put up with this noisy sound for a couple years now. One person said I need to clean the air vents, like dust is causing the noise. Does anyone know about this?

its a g4 titanium powerbook 867 mhz 768 RAM (ancient I know but it still works!)

IMac :: Fans Spinning At 3500 RPMs Constantly / Not Slowing Down By Any Means

Feb 4, 2009

My parents have an older 20-inch white Intel iMac that has run great through the years. But about a week ago it just started spinning the CPU fans up to 3500-4000 RPMs and it won't bring them back down. Istat shows that the CPU temp is around 90 degrees and the computer remains cool to the touch.

So it isn't overheating. My parents keep it off most of the time because they don't want to ruin it, but they're planning on using it in their business they're trying to start up. We've done some web searches and nothing seems to fix it.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With CPU Temp 100C / Fan Still At 2000RPM

Mar 14, 2010

I've notices a really strange behaviour with my 13" MBP. The fan simply doesn't go faster on high loads, which results in a CPU temperature that is far beyond the operation specification Intel provides.

Seems as if the SMC controller is kind of broken. I tried to reset it, but that didn't change anything. A PRAM reset also didn't work.

MacBook Pro :: Fans Suddenly Making Wierd Noises / Fans Are Hitting Something?

Jul 27, 2009

the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?

OS X :: Re Fsck-hfs Process At Start Up - How To Disable Speed Up Process

Sep 21, 2009

I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount. However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.

MacBook Pro :: Process That Cannot Be 'killed'

Mar 31, 2012

There is a process, "PocketCloudService" that I cannot finish even from terminal (kill PID), the response is "Operation not permitted". I did the same of killing proceses from terminal and it worked, but it doesn't with this process. It belonged to a program that I unistalled, "Pocket Cloud". I reinstalled that program and unistalled again, but the process continues running, even if I restart the mac. It's annoying because sometimes it spends about 80% CPU, warming my mac (and my patience!), therefore I finish the process "PocketCloudService" from Activity Monitor, but it restarts few seconds after. I just want to delete or block the source that launches that process and not have to stop it manually anymore. From activity monitor when I check the process, the main process is "launchd (1)", user: root (0)

MacBook Pro :: Report Crash Process Using Over 100 Percent Of CPU

For the past few days my macbook pro (lion 10.7.3) has been overheating and the fan has been going crazy. In my processes, there is one called "report crash" that is consistently using between 50% and 180% of the CPU. I force quit it, but it just comes back straight away. I looked into my logs to see what is causing it and there seems to be a continual launch/crash cycle related to com.apple.midiserver, whatever that is. Does anyone have a clue why the midiserver is fighting to be launched ad infinitum and causing my mac to go berserk?
