MacBook :: Magic Mouse Won't Scroll
May 17, 2012
The mouse was working then suddenly won't scroll. Tried deleting the pref and no luck. Tried restoring back to Snow Leopard from SuperDuper and the mouse worked fine. Reinstalled Lion and it won't scroll. Don't have USB Overdrive on the machine. Suspect a software conflict but have no idea where it could be. Haven't put anything new on it recently that I can remember. Hopefully someone has an idea 'cause for the first time in 15 or more years with a Macint9osh I am stumped!
Info:iMac (24-inch), Mac OS X (10.7.3), MacBook 13in, ipad 2

I really miss being able to flick to auto scroll when not using the magic mouse.
Seems this should be possible?

I just received a used magic mouse that I bought, and it paired alright in terms of whether the machine (macbook late '07, running 10.5.8) recognizes it and I click just fine (both primary-button and secondary-button), but I can't seem to get it to scroll, in any direction. Am I missing something or was this just somebody offloading their faulty mouse on me?

I've just bought a new Magic mouse for my Macbook Pro and although I've paired it using the Mouse preference pane I cannot get the scroll, swipe etc functions to work just the basic pointer and and click functions. I've run system updater and everything is up-to date - what am I doing wrong? I cannot get the options to configure it to even appear.

I have got a new magic mouse but it does not scroll, the scrolling feature does not show in mouse preferences, it only shows tracking speed and double-click speed. In Bluetooth preferences it says the mouse is connected and paired, but in Keyboard & Mouse Bluetooth preferences the keyboard name is there and it shows the battery level, but shows no name or battery level for the mouse.

Just bought the Magic Mouse. There's no scroll wheel, but the box shows that you can touch/click on the center and it will scroll. I can't seem to make it do that. If I click and hold, it highlights everything.

Does anyone know how on a Mac magic mouse to turn off left right scroll but not up down ?
It so annoying when using a spreadsheet program as I seem to keep on moving the mouse left and right inadvertently.
Turning off TWO FINGERS SWIPE LEFT/RIGHT TO NAVIGATE does not turn off this function

I bought 2 days ago my new imac and today when I try to use it I discovered that the scroll function of the magic mouse is contrary. Scroll with finger up and the scroll goes down, scroll with finger down and the scroll page goes up.

Maybe i'm the only one that's tired of my "nipple" scroll wheel not working but i'm sick and tired of moving that confounded thing only to find NOTHING SCROLLING! AND NO,... i don't use my mouse while eating a handful of doritos. My solution? DIY breakdown, disassemble, and clean. Mind you,.. i had one extra piece when it was all said and done, but who's counting, this aint a cesarian for crying out loud. It turns out that in order to take it apart, you'll have to "break" the seal on the bottom which in turn leaves it so you can't put the bottom seal back on when your done. I didn't notice a difference in performance/usage though.
1) Using a small paperclip, i gently tore off the light gray ring around the bottom of the mouse - starting at the side buttons and working my way around like one would seal a tupperware
2) Using a medium paperclip (still folded) i gently pryed the front part of the bottom of the mouse away from the top carriage. The back of the mouse sorta hinges so don't go yanking the back our you'll do some damage.
3) Using a teeny tiny Philips, i removed the 3 screws holding in the "nipple".
4) Once the black cage is removed, i find the ball incased in an ingenius little contraption. A small white plastic top gently holds the ball in place so i remove that. Once removed it reveals 4 small "spindles" about 1/2 a cm long that formed a square around where the ball was sitting. These spindles were magnetic on the ends and were gently held in place by magnetizing to a small piece of metal at each of the four sides of the square.
5) I removed each spindel and scraped the "gunk" using a teeny tiny flat head.
6) Once clean, i reassembled and whola.

What's up with that? I just was using my brothers iMac and noticed his Magic Mouse felt a little different while web browsing.. I went into the System Preferences > Mouse and realized that he had enabled the check box of "Scrolling" and had it set to "WITH MOMENTUM".
So I figured out that was why mine felt different. I went into my System Preferences > Mouse and have the dialog box for "Scrolling" but I do not have the option to select "WITH MOMENTUM" or "WITHOUT MOMENTUM". I'm using a Macbook, and he has a new iMac. Both with Snow Leopard.. and I just ran a Software Update, and it says everything is Up To Date.

If I pair a bluetooth mouse to my Macbook Pro, will it wake itself up inside it's bag (potentially over heating it and killing my batter) if it receives input from the mouse?

I'm looking to get either a Magic Mouse or the Magic trackpad to use with my iMac. Do they both work with Windows? My wife uses Windows Vista on bootcamp for work. Also, I do play some games, nothing heavy duty.Any other thoughts or suggestions would be helpful, especially concerning the magic trackpad as my experience with it is approximately 10 minutes at my local Apple store.

For those who have purchased the new iMac or are thinking of purchasing, definitely go with a Magic Trackpad. The Magic Mouse is a little better for dragging and dropping, but the Trackpad is so much more enjoyable to use for everything elseApple should really figure out a way to make this a packaging option

I recently plugged my Belkin USB mouse into my Black MacBook. All works OK, except that I cannot change the number of lines jumped when I use the scroll wheel.
The "Scrolling Speed" setting in System Preferences > Mouse doesn't do anything.
Any ideas? Is there a config file I can change via Terminal?
