Aug 6, 2009i currently have 1 XP partition of 60GB on my uMBP, and the other 260GB is used for OSX. I now want to partition off 80GB for a Windows 7 OS. Bootcamp only seems to allow 1 partition, solution?

Apr 30, 2009I bought my 13' macbook (white) with the intel 2.0 and 80gb HardDrive in 2007 with OSX installed and its been good until now, It had frozen and I had pressed the power button to reboot it cause it was not responding to anything. and now it will not start up, it just goes to a grey screen with a picture of a file with a question mark in it... I have tried and done everything in every article I could find on the internet to fix it, tried zapping the PRAM and restarting holding the C key and tried reinstalling the osx software but it does not work and only shows my disk drive and not my Hard-Drive as if it does not exist.Has my Hard-drive failed? Does this mean I need a new hard-drive? would replacing it fix this problem you think?

Sep 9, 2010playing games through bootcamp. Especially with Call of Duty 4. It freezes up constantly in the menus and just has lots of problems. Some games wont run at all in bootcamp, but the odd thing is that all these problems don't ever occur when I open the games in Parallels. Granted frame rates are a lot lower of course, but the games function fine. also noticed when playing Modern Warfare 2 today with my friend, my macbook pro blows his HP out of the water when comparing the in-game Frame rates and graphics, but his menus and loading screens go sooo much faster.

Mar 18, 2009I installed XP bootcamp on my 2.66 MBP and installed everything from the OS X installation CD. However, when I started the game, at the opening video, the video seems to having some noticeable lagging especially towards the end of the video. However supposingly the 2.66 MBP won't have such problem is it? Or do I need to install any extra driver (eg, GPU) for smooth gaming in bootcamp?

Jul 7, 2010i bought a imac 27" quad core i5, and like in my previous imac 20" i created a partition to play my games in bootcamp...but this time i installed the W7 64bit ( used the trick command promt on instalation to del c:windowssystem32driversatikmdag.sys if im not mistaken, to get the screen to work and finnish the instalation ) did everything by the book, installed drivers from OS X dvd, then bootcamp 3.1.
But all my games ( pes 2010, resident evil 5 and OF dragon rising) dont work! the only one that works is company of heroes ( 2006? ) PES 2010 installs but when start .exe gave me a message ( doesn't work on 64bit OS only 32bit ) the other 2 don-t even let me install them appearing the same message of incompatibility...so...i installed W7 32bit ultimate...now the messages didnt show, instead, a black window ( look like DOS ) appears and disappears in a sec, in PES after instalation, when trying to run the game, on the other 2, on the attempt to install the games just like in the 64bit version. i rolled back to what i thought it would work, since i know there are some issues with W7 and imac, the XP SP3! with same results on W7 32bit...pops a window like DOS, for a milisec, and disappears.

I'm running OS X 6.8 and am told that I can't upgrade to OS X 7.My only connection to the internet is through a MobileMe AirPort. I have not ethernet or firewire connection.Without OS X 7, I can't access iCloud. How do I stay connected to the internet after June 30, 2012 when MobileMe is discontinued?

Nov 21, 2009With winter break approaching I was planning to get some PC games(COD:MW2, Battlefield etc) and play them during break but I'm not sure which software would be best to play those games. I've looked at VM Fusion, Parallels and Bootcamp but I'm still not sure as to the advantages and disadvantages of each. Is there a way i can use a playstation 2 controller to play pc games running through bootcamp? I've heard that I need some kind of an adapter but I've been unsuccessful in finding one so far.

Feb 11, 2009I installed a copy of Windows Vista on my 15in Macbook Pro. I did this in order to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and some other games on my laptop. The machine is more than capable of running the game and I've read forum posts that had said that it works perfectly fine through boot camp. I installed the game and was playing it just fine for about 1-2 months until one day the game began to lag really bad and the sound also disappeared.

Aug 10, 2009Does anyone else have video performance issues with the 15" 2.16Ghz MBP? I am working with 3gigs of RAM here, and yet videos skip and stutter CONSTANTLY! Initially it seemed to only happen to hd videos (720p), but now it seems to happen to any kind of video file I play. The player I'm using is VLC, as that seems to cause the least amount of problems. If I use quicktime it's worse. Could it possibly be caused by the slow (5400RPM) HD which is steadily filling up? I'm at a complete loss, and it's really making me hate this thing!

Apr 21, 2012My old PC broke and I had someone recover the data of the harddrive for me, he told me he would recover the data so it worked on Macs. All the music, songs etc are working, however the videos are not working. The videos are in '.avi' and some are in '.mpg'
When I try to open them it says "the document "DOCUMENTNAME.MPG" could not be opened. A required codec isnt available.." There is a button that says tell me more, when I press it, it takes me to this page, [URL]which doesnt make a lot of sense to me. Would someone help me open and save my files in the correct format!?

Jan 30, 2009Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....
MacBook Pro :: 80GB SSD - No Good Random Read Results In Win7
Dec 5, 2009I recently picked up the Intel 80GB SSD. First thing I did was update it to Intel latest firmware (02HD). I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and then created a bootcamp partition, splitting the drive 20GB for Mac OS X and the remaining for Windows 7 Pro. I installed Windows 7, bootcamp drivers and then did a windows update and I'm getting disappointing random read results in Windows 7.
I've attached a picture of my benchmark results. I haven't tested the drive in Mac OS X yet. I believe X Bench would be a good tool from reading the forums. Does anyone have any idea why it might be performing so slow, at reads no less! The write performance numbers seem to be on par with the results I've seen on the web, however all the reads are much slower than others.

Mar 23, 2012I have a 2009 27" iMac, running Windows 7 x64 with BootCamp, and I'm having a problem when running Windows for more then 5 minutes.
After running it for about 5 minutes, the fans go CRAZY, the system doesnt get too hot though, the LEFT side of my screen starts flickering brightness, while the RIGHT side starts flickering colors. After a few more minutes of this, my screen goes completely black, I know the computer is still running, because I hear my music and the zombie killing me in Minecraft, but my screen, keyboard, and mouse dont seem to respond. I have double checked all drivers, I have updated BootCamp, and my next step was to reformat the drive, but that is my LAST resort.

May 25, 2012I have had Windows 7 installed on my 2010 iMac for a while now. I installed all the drivers from the snow leopard disk, everything is up to date including the device drivers, and yet I am having wireless internet connectivity problems. Everytime windows tries to connect to the internet, it says that there is no internet access and that it is identifying the network. I have tried resetting my router, turning my airport on and off and rebooting my computer, all of which have not worked.

I play Steam games (at times, as they usually run horribly slow), I surf on Chrome, I use Mail, Excel, and iTunes. I also DJ using Traktor Scratch Pro.I bootcamp to play MOST of my games. I know this is a factor for the caching etc.I'm not in DIRE need of space. I have 50gb left, and multiple seasons of different television shows on my hdd. Not to mention several movies. I am a virtual pack rat of sorts, I guess, and I like to carry my media with me. I often use my laptop hooked up to an HDTV for viewing TV shows and movies.

Nov 30, 2014My imac is around 4 years old and has been running both windows bootcamp and os x snow leopard for at least 3 years without any problems. My default operating system is mac and when I tried to turn it on this morning it gets stuck on the white screen with the grey apple icon and the loading icon spinning. Also a bar appears below this that I have never seen before. I have tried opening the mac in recovery mode but it does not respond and goes to the same logo screen.
I have tried holding the 'D' key down while the mac comes on and doing the apple hardware test but once the window pops up it does not complete the probing and appears to freeze just before its completion. I have also tried booting in safemode but the script stops at these commands:
-launch tl: Please convert the following to launchd: etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist
-launch_msg(): socket is not connected
However, the windows bootcamp is working fine and I can access my mac files from there.Also worth mentioning is that it is not a grey screen that appears on start up it is just the normal apple icon screen.

Feb 26, 2009My internal 200GB HD is nearing capacity and I was wondering what my options were for an upgrade. I think I found a good deal on a 500GB internal HD from macsales, the drive is a 2.5" and is 9.5mm in height. The price is fair, about $100 and all I'm looking to do is add more space for music.
With this said, the 5400 drive seems to suffice. Is this the maximum size for an internal drive and has anyone else successfully added a 500GB drive to their MacBook?
OS X :: Create A New 80GB Partition In My Free Space?
Jul 18, 2009I have been trying to expand my bootcamp partition and so far I have WinClone'd it, then I merged it into my Mac partition, then I tried to create a new windows partition (but it didn't work), so now I am trying to create a new Mac partition. It failed a few times saying things like not enough space (though there was), and something about available resources. Now it has been going for about an hour, and the progress bar is in the loading mode, where it doesn't show the progress. I'm pretty sure it is hung up, and will go like this forever. How long should it take?
BTW I have a 1st gen uMBP 15"

Apr 11, 2009I occasionally get the BSOD sometimes on the Windows XP side of things in Boot Camp. I always use a mouse on the Windows side, as the trackpad is very glitchy and buggy. Sometimes, when I use the mouse for a prolonged period of time, I accidently touch the trackpad forgetting all of the sudden that i had the mouse (or i use it to scroll down) and the whole thing blue screens on me. It has happened 8 times already, each time blue screening after touching the mouse. I don't know why, but I find out that the mouse drivers are the one that is messing up my Windows XP SP3.

May 20, 2009I have a Macbook Pro 15" , C2D 2.33ghz. I have the 7100 version of Windows 7 and everything worked perfectly except for the sound.
No matter which bootcamp driver I try or even Realtek's own vista one nothing works.
I downloaded the bootcamp 2.1 drivers and everything installed correctly , including the realtek ones. All the hardware looks fine in device manager but I dont hear anything out.
Should the default be speakers? It seems that it keeps the driver as microsofts own and it doesnt say anything about realtek. Could that be the problem?
I did not try the microphone jack yet but will in a few minutes.
Even if there is a hack , Im willing to try it. What is the exact audio chipset on this model of macbook pro?

Oct 21, 2009I have today received a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, and am looking forward to installing it on my MacBook (early unibody version with Core 2 Duo processor, recently upgraded to Snow Leopard - version MacBook 5,1 - with 2.4GHz Processor and 4GB RAM).
The question is simple, but I am utterly confused when searching for the answer...!
Should I install the 32bit or the 64bit version of windows? (both the disks are in the box). I would like a smooth installation, and realise that 32bit should work no problem. However if all the drivers are available for 64bit windows, and it works then I see no reason not to install that version. I am confused because there is reference on the Apple website of this version of the MacBook not being supported for 64bit despite having a 64bit processor (??) Also the vast majority of the information on the Apple website seems to refer to Vista 64bit. I imagine that this will be quite confusing for many users, as it has been for me!
I will only install windows once, and would obviously like to install the potentially faster OS if it will be straightforward, and everything will work as it should (have read about problems with the iSight/backlit keyboard etc. - but these may now be fixed).
Hardware :: Lacie Rugged 80GB Won't Mount On Desktop
Nov 19, 2008I have a Lacie Rugged 80GB with Firewire 400/800 and USB 2.0. I was using it just fine last night to back up my 12 PB. Then I yanked out the Firewire cord without ejecting it. Now, this morning it takes like 20min to mount. Then it says Read only, Time machine cannot write to this drive. I have tryed two different computers, all three interfaces and different cords. Now, It will not mount at all, no matter how long I let it sit. I hear the hard drive spinning, but will not mount and I can't see it in Disk Utility either.
