MacBook Pro :: Completely Restore To Factory?

Aug 4, 2009

I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to completely erase everything from my Unibody MacBook Pro? I usually do the 7 pass erase and install everything from factory but is there any other procedure I can follow to make sure my computer would be running at its best? I am not sure if it is me or not but my mac used to be faster when I bought it last year even after reinstalling everything from factory.

MacBook Pro :: Factory Restore But Have No Display

Sep 3, 2014

I have a macbook pro that was given to me that works but the display does not. I have been using the thunderbolt to hdmi connector to display on a tv screen that I have laying around, now I need to restore the computer to factory settings and remove all the previous person stuff but wondering how I go about this. I know I have to go to recovery mode by shutting down restarting and hold the option key down but when I shut down it doesn't show back up on the monitor. Is there a way to restore without the display or is there another way to use the thunderbolt to hdmi to get it to work?

MacBook :: How To Restore Back To Factory Settings

Jun 23, 2014

I have recently purchased a refurbished  macbook (2010). I don't have any software but I need to restore my macbook back to factory settings. I watched a couple videos on how to but there are steps they do that I can't . Like when you shut off your macbook and turn it back on holding the "options" button well I don't have that choice of "recovery hd" There is only 1 icon on my screen when pushing the options button and the only choice I have is the"macintosh hd".There aren't two choices like all the videos show ,the videos show "macintosh hd" and "recovery hd".

MacBook Pro :: Safety With Reselling - Restore To Factory Presets?

Apr 20, 2010

I am getting ready to buy a new mbp. I currently have a mbp that I purchased 2 years ago. I did not create a backup to the factory setup when I first purchased the mbp. Would love some advice from more experienced members of the form on the following:

- is there still a way to restore my mbp to the factory presets?

- what programs do you recommend to wipe the sensitive data from your mbp before selling it on ebay? And how significant are the risks of selling your mpb on ebay after using the software?

- what should I do when I initially purchase my new mbp in anticipation of 2012 when I will likely want to purchase a new mbp and sell the old one? (ie, to make it easier to erase all of my data and restore it back to the factory presets)

if this has already been covered adequately, I apologize for re-posting, but I couldn't seem to find what I was looking for in my search.

MacBook Pro :: Restore Lion To Original Factory Settings?

Apr 5, 2012

Early 2011 15" MBP with Lion (purchased new July 22, 2012). I had a two year old MBP running Snow Leopard then upgraded to Lion. The computer got flooded. I took out the hard drive and put it in a portable hard drive case and used it to restore my new MBP running Lion. It seemed to go very smooth and very easy. I am not a very knowledgable computer person, I use the computer for Photoshop, iTunes and email and just barely know not to turn it off with the on/off button! I keep noticing that I have two of many things in the computer, like library, multiple systems and multiple hard drives. I also get conflicting amounts of free hard drive space. I feel that I mistakenly copied too much stuff. I have backed up my files onto a fire wire hard drive. I want to "push a button" and have the computer  go back to the way it was the day I bought it. This time, I will take the time and move the files and programs manually (there are not that many). I am affraid a typical restore from Time Machine will only bring back the problems I am trying to get away from.

Other forums are saying "Use System Restore Disks" I don't have "System Restore Disks" I have 2 disks that came with the computer called "Mac OS X" not called "System Restore". Do I just pop Disk 1 of 2 in the CD/DVD and hold down C whilst rebooting?

Software :: Restore To Factory Settings?

Oct 18, 2008

I have a PowerBook G4 that is about 3 1/2 years old - my first Mac ever, I got it for college. However, now that it has been so many years I feel like I want to restore it to factory settings, essentially I want to make it like I just opened it up from the box. It still runs fine, maybe a little slow. But mostly I think she's just bogged down from years of classes, music, applications, etc. The problem? Like an idiot, I don't have my start-up disk anymore. I thought maybe I should purchase the upgrade to Leopard for after I wipe it, but I'm not sure how to even do that. Also, $130 is kind of pricey but if I have to purchase a new Tiger start-up disk (if that's even possible) the cost difference might be worth it.

So I guess what I'm asking for is advice about what is the best course to take. Getting a new Tiger disk seems like it might be hard, but I don't know if my PowerBook is new enough to support Leopard. Would it be worth it to find a professional (mind you I live in a small Michigan town that doesn't even have a Best Buy, and the nearest Apple store is in Lansing)? I apologize if I sound so much like a novice that it makes your head explode.
