my Mac started doing this a week ago. The bottom half of the screen flickers/flashes lines. If I leave it open on a flat surface and I touch the screen for a little bit, it'll go back to normal. When I close the laptop, put it in my case, and travel around with it, the next time I open it up it'll start flashing again.

Just received the new 13" macbook air yesterday and today have noticed some very thin horizontal banding lines across the bottom portion of the screen.
Has anyone else noticed this, or check to see if your one has this problem.
It is quite subtle but it makes the icons on the dock look as if they have a card like effect through them.
Easiest to check if you make your screen wallpaper the dark grey colour.
On this the top part of the screen seems consistent, but at the bottom part there is very thin white horizontal lines. I tried updating the software, but it seems to be the same - looks like a faulty display may have to send back,wondering if it could be fixed with a software update.
The strange thing is black and dark colours do not produce the effect it only shows up on greys or medium contrast colours like blue.
I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
I have a late 2007 2.2ghz MBP. It seems that the video cable is failing, as I often open it up from sleep and get only half an image on the screen. Image capture does not capture this, so I know that it is hardware related. It does not happen on my external monitor.
It is getting more frequent, and has been going on for about a month, The warranty expired in late September (lucky me!)
today while I was working on my dissertation the screen on my MacBook Pro suddenly froze halfway with colored vertical lines covering the right half of the screen. The computer is only 1 year and 1 week old.

I have a 17" MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz Core Duo with 10.6.2. I have an intermittent issue where half of the screen will go whitish with lines. For example, If i was browsing a site and then close the window you can still see parts of the website in the middle of the screen. I took the laptop in for the technicians to have a look and they a blaming it on the software,claiming that Gfxcardstatus is causing the problem. The problem still persists even with gfxcardstatus turned off. Does Gfxcardstatus do this? Is it the Lcd or gpu failure? Take a look at the photos ....

This i dont think is serious and i am not sure what is causing the problem, basically my Alu macbook 2ghz' screen has started flicking, this has only started to happen since i installed 10.5.7 but only happens when my power adapter is in, it doesn't happen all the time but basically when i put my adapter in and the light isn't on then my screen starts to flicker.
It does stop flickering after i remove the charger and put it back in and then the light on it works.would you say its a problem with my screen/charger/something else?
My 2008 Penryn White Macbook siplays vertical lines and or vertical grey/black bars on 60% of the display. This happens from when it is powered on until and including when you arrive at desktop. The space the lines occupy does not increase or shrink, they have covered the area from the moment the problem arose.
it is not the common line issue that a Tiger update solved since this Macbook came with Leopard pre-installed. The lines are still there with the hard drive removed and they are still there when I booted a live Ubuntu CD, so I have ruled out software being the cause. Also I have ruled out inverter because I would not be getting any backlighting.
So....
To me that leaves:
-The LCD display panel itself (although there is no physical damage and it has never been dropped)
-The display data cable that connects LCD to the logic board
-GPU
Everytime I lean my wrist or hand on it, the computer acts as if I am holding down the click and trying to select everything on the page. It's very difficult to get out of, however about 50% of the time hitting escape works.
This has happened on and off for the past year but has been getting worse recently. Has anyone else come across this and perhaps has a fix? Th MBP is around 3 years now.
Macbook pro 2014 only had it for about 2 months but recently about three weeks ago the display has been flicking to a black screen but has gradually been increasing and it now happens every two minutes - just randomly goes black for about 5 or 10 seconds and sometimes goes back to home screen but sometimes goes to log in screen, It interferes with me trying to do my work when this happens so frequently

I have a late 2006 macbook and had the issue with the cracking case repaired today, however, Apple only repaired half of the issue. The 'top' half of the case was fixed (new keyboard, trackpad etc) was replaced and I am more than happy with it. The bottom half of the case (section with USB ports, bottom of the MacBook etc) still has cracks in it and clearly hasn't been replaced. Is this something that should be replaced as a manufacturing fault as they have done with the keyboard, palm rest, trackpad etc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThese lines are 1cm apart one another, and are almost invisible, but their "flicking" it's really noticeable and quite annoying working as a graphic. It has less than 2 years but they say that the warranty it's over, even if by law it should be at least 2 years, it's obviously ah hardware problem, so I'm quite sure it's a display problem and probably should be replaced.

I have a macbook pro mid 2012 mode, when ever my laptop wakes up from sleep after a longer duration then the screen flicker and vertical color lines appear.
The problem goes away once I reboot, also the problem doesnt appear in case I dont let the mac sleep. I have tried PRAM reset and changing my display resolutions, but both have not worked. The mac is just under two years old and I have already replaced the SATA cable, hardrive and now this issue?

At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

I started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.

It started on one side and has gotten worst to the point of filling the screen with hundreds of lines. Can hardly see screen. I was trying to install windows on my pro, and i had bootcamp chop the hard disk in half, but then my disk drive didnt read the cd so i had to download and install some file. and after i restarted i could no longer access the windows side, it just disappeared.....plus i cannot reset my hard disk, cant erase it, and i cant reinstall OS X because there is no memory left..
grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.

I tried to use some software to test the display. I found when the screen goes to completely dark with the backlight on, the bottom side of my screen is brighter than other parts.... have u guys met any problem like that, or is this some problem with my MBA?
My Air's screen is slightly darker at the bottom (only on a few millimeters, but still). It only happens on a white/light background though (I don't have my dock at the bottom). In comparison, the screen of my MacBook has a very uniform backlight. Does anybody else have this issue?

I notice that on the mbp pro but its worse on the mba. I have a rev2 1.86 with a 9400. In this review (in spanish) they check the brightness levels on the screen, and there is a difference between center and bottom right corner (340cd/m2 vs 215cd/m2)
