I use MBP (late 2011). I find the hunderbolt port to be similar to the mini-display port of older mac. I wish to have another display, but not ready to spend $999 over a thunderbolt display from mac. So would like to know if a Mini-diaplay port converter from apple would help me connect a exernal display via the thunderbolt port?

I just received a new Macbook Pro (2012, retina display) and a 27" Thunderbolt display. I am having problems getting the notebook to turn on the display. I called Apple (Monday) and they had me reset the SMC and then the PRAM. After this the monitor was recognized and worked fine for the rest of the evening. However, when I turned things on yesterday evening the monitor would not turn on, and resetting the SMC and PRAM (multiple times) has no effect.

My Macbook Pro (15 in 2 GHz core i7) absolutely crawls when I plug in the thunderbolt display. I'm running on snow leopard with 4 gigs of memory. Ive made all the neccesary updates. I plug in the screen and close my laptop and the computer gets unbearably slow. Once I open it up it gets way better and when I unplug the display it goes back to 100% speed. Ive called apple and they cant figure it out. Ive taken it to the apple store and they tell me they cant figure it out.

I have a new 2012 Macbook pro 17 and a 27 inch thunderbolt display.Â
The Macbook was working great. Then I connected it to the thunderbolt display and did clamshell mode. That worked well too. But.. then I powered down the macbook, disconnected the thunderbolt dislplay and tried to boot back up again. The mac book powers on, the back light comes on, I hear the chime then that is it. The back light stays on nothing else happens. Resetting the PRAM can not be done. Any of the boot options are ignored. It is like the keyboard is non resposive. I tried all the reset and boot combinations available but nothing works. Â
The light on the front of the macbook comes on then goes dim. The apple logo on the lid stays lit, and if I close the lid, the apple logo goes dim and the light on the front lights up. Weird, it is almost like it goes to sleep when it turns on. I tried conntecting the thunderbolt again but no joy. I am really disappointed. This is less than a month old and its already going in for repair. It should be replaced. Â

So my macbook pro (2011 late model) has the fan speed of around 2000 rpm during the normal use.Â
Then, when I connect it with a Thunderbolt display (with an ethernet cable for internet), the fan speed is increased to 3200-4000 rpm suddenly.Â
I just don't understand how connecting to a display alone will increase the need for cooling that significantly.Â

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and a Thunderbolt display. It appears when I plug my Macbook Pro in with the power adapter directly to an outlet, it charges fine. However, if I use the charger on my Thunderbolt display cable, the status reads "Not Charging"... sometimes. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it appears to toggle between charging and not charging. Is this a known issue with Macbook and Thunderbolt? I assume it should always be charging if it's plugged in and the battery is low.Â

I've been having a nightmare getting WIndows 7 to work properly with the second display on my MBP 15" (Early 2011) i7.Â
I'm currently running Lion 10.7.4 which works fine on both the internal laptop panel and the external AOC monitor through a Thunderbolt -> VGA Apple Adapter.Â
Bootcamp installed Windows 7-x64 with no issues, but when it came to trying to get the second monitor fired up it wouldnt.Â
I noticed when I installed WIndows and when I boot into it, that the screens mirror one another, I take it this is the Intel GPU running. I'll explain why in a bit.Â
1) I updated all the bootcamp files through Apple Update, no change
2) WHen I extend the displays, Windows sees the display, make and model without any issues, but it gets no signal
3) I then manually removed the ATI Radeon HD6xxx drivers manually, rebooted and both displays mirrored again throught a 'standard VGA adapter', this is why I assume this is the Intel kicking in.
4) I downloaded the latest ATI Drivers... ATI Mac Drivers -> Bootcamp -> Macbook Pro
5) Rebooted, and still stuck at step one now...Â

Mac OS X 10.8.5 crashes after I disconnect the thunderbolt display. Â
I normally work in the studio with my macbook connected to an external display.
When I go to use it without the thunderbolt display it crashes - 4 times in one day.Â
I've checked my log files and I have a list of panic reports. each of the reports refer to the graphics control.

I have a 3 inch vertical band in the middle of my 26" thunderbolt display which is connected to a 6 month old 15" Macbook pro running OS 10.9.3. This band randomly flickers on and off and shows a burned-in image of the previous window. It may disappear for as much as a few weeks but then return for minutes or hours. I tried restarting with all peripherals disconnected (hard discs, Bamboo graphics pad etc) with no effect.

I have a 17-inch MacBook Pro and a 27 inch Thunderbolt display. I've been using both for about 2 years now. On occasion, the display disconnects for no obvious reason. Unplugging it from my MacBook Pro and replugging it in seems to solve the problem, but its been happening more frequently lately.Â

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2009 running Mavericks. I have an old 23" Cinema Display that uses a big chunky adaptor (ADC?) with a dual USB and Thunderbolt cable and it works well with it, however, I just bought a new Thunderbolt 27" display and it just won't detect it. I also notice that a lacie drive in the same Thunderbolt slot won't show up either. The old Cinema Display does still work however using that same slot so it's not actually dead. Puzzled! Â
I know this MBP is probably one of the first generation to have Thunderbolt but I've never used it for anything other than the old Cinema Display adaptor.Â

I have had a problem with this EFI frimware 2.6 update, that does not seem to want to be updated. Is there a problem with my MBP or what do i need to do to be able to complete the update and get rid of it. everytime i click on software updates, i see this update still there even though i installed it many times, however, its still there. This could only mean one thing either it did not install or there is an error with the software update reporting that its still not updated. Â

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.8 does not install. I was prompted several times to install and restart (MacBook Pro late 2008) and authorised it each time. I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with Lion installed. The Performance is less than I expected if compare with my old Macbook with Snow Leopard installed. Connect to Apple's Thunderbolt Display Performance goes doen to very, very, very, very slow. For Example to load a JPG in Preview it takes more than 30 seconds until 1 min to load. Same to start iWork like Pages or Keynote.Sometimes Safari freeze, loading images or loading plugins like flash animations. Generally Lion works with low performance and I wish Snow Leopard back. But my Mybook Pro late 2011 is not compatible to install Snow Leopard on it.Â

I tried to download the lastes version of open firmware, but it is incompatible with the version of my computer. Don't tell me to use a disk I got with my computer, that would be for a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook, which is what I have. Please tell me if you can find a link to a firmware password program for Mac OSX 10.6.8, or if you have another way of installing a firmware password.
