Keep track of hours of music listened to in say a continuous 2 week span. This can be synced through your ipod and within itunes itself. And give ratings related to how much hours of music you have listened to in the those 2 weeks. So if you've listened to I dunno 12 hours of music within that span, it'll keep track and give you a rating like: 'casual listener' or if you have totaled up 40 hours of music listening you're an 'avid music fan'. I dunno what to call them but I like knowing how much music I've really listened to recently and this would be cool.
Or to take it even further, see what genre (granted you have this organized in iTunes) that you're listening to most and this can go even deeper.
I thought I would share a cool realization. I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I archived and installed leopard from tiger. Since then sometime there is a message that comes up telling me I need to restart my computer in all different languages. Also when I try to verify and repair my disk permissions, this is what shows up:
Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/CodeResources", ....
I phoned up AppleCare and they are kind enough to mail me back two recovery discs free of charge (they are white instead of grey, and printed as replacement discs)
Today I tried to boot from the disc to see if it works, after I chose the language, there's a msg saying "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer" and the two options that I have is to restore from Time Machine or restart.
So I checked the version of the disc in OSX, I discover that it's actually 10.6.1, instead of 10.6.2 which ships with Core i5/i7 iMacs.
Then I phone up AppleCare yet again to see if they have send me the correct disc. The guy asked of my serial number and after a while of checking, he said they have sent me the right disc. They say the discs that come along with the core i5/i7 are actually 10.6.1 as he sees from his system.
If I want to do a clean install of OSX I have to delete and format the volume first, he said.
I am not convinced, how come a recovery disc version could differ from the one that's actually installed?
I just recently bought an "apple aluminum keyboard" off of craigslist as a secondary one for work. I didn't notice it at the time of purchase, but the keys are different, such as a smaller return key and the key labels are not the same as my main keyboard which I bought at Best Buy. What this keyboard is? A euro edition? or knockoff?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 2011 21.5" iMac has a 1TB hard drive. In the Finder, it reports 238GB used, 744GB available. But, in Disk Utility and in DiskWave analyzer, it shows 460GB used. "About this Mac" reports 460GB used with 206GB of "backup" that is not there (not invisible files, not showing up in detail reports). When DiskWave reports 460GB used, the detailed list of files & apps only adds up to 238GB - a mystery in that it cannot show the extra "used" space, but only reports free space as 539GB thus not accounting for the remainder. How can I reconcile these differences?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing this show up when I do a permissions repair in Snow Leopard 10.6.2
Permissions differ on "usr/share/derby", should be drwxr-xr-x, they are lrwxr-xr-x
Repaired "usr/share/derby"
It shows up each time I do this. Anyone else seeing this?
Equipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content. Â
My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details. Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy don't I see my macbook as using any of my icloud storage? My iphone and ipad are there and show their latest backups. Does this mean my macbook isn't backed up to icloud? I am using Lion and iCloud seems to be on in my Macbook's System Preferences. My photos stream fine and my calendar moves from my iphone to my mac wirelessly. What am I missing?

I take tons of pictures and that is what's sucking up all of my memory. I currently have a 2011 Macbook Pro OS X Lion Version 10.7.4. 4 GB memory 2 GHz processor. Now that I look at the "About This Mac" it says all of my storage is "Other" with 0 KB in everything else like photos and apps which I know is false. Anyway, what should I do? Should I go to best buy and get a bigger memory? its currently 500 GB & 499.25 of that is filled up... What could I delete to free up space? Should I partition my photos onto an external hard drive?

I have a solid state memory in the airbook mac and want to free up storage space. Transfering files to external jumpdrives and putting files into the trash does not free up the space. The wording is 'MAC OS extended' in the format space when disc utility is opened and top title 'erase' is selected.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?
View 6 Replies View Relatedjust having a hard time grasping this... I understand that a SSD is state of art, and gives a drastic speed over a conventional HDD. But how is it that data is stored, I mean how can a 256GB drive be superior to a 500GB drive for data storage??
View 7 Replies View RelatedIt came the time i knew it was going to come when i bought by MAB rev.1: I need more storage space. So far, I have been burning all movies on DVDs, but now i need space for music and pics. What is your advice? I do not want to buy a wired device, because MAB has only one USB port. At the same time they told me that the Time Capsule does not really work very well, and i do not really need another wireless router anyways. Would you guys reccomend another wireless HD? Which one? Or, put differently, what solution did you go for?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook with a storage drive connected via firewire. All was fine but now suddenly it won't show the contents of the folders and it won't eject. I tried dragging it to the trash, and I also tried the eject arrow in the list of drives. I tried to open Disk Utility, but it just spins. I also tried to throw something else away in the trash, and the trash folder will not take it.
Normally if something like this happened, I would just restart and hope it rights itself, but I don't know if I can do that with a storage drive still attached. (On another occasion, the storage drive got pulled out improperly and luckily I was able to repair it with Disk Utility.)
When I bought my 13" MBP I swapped out the 160 GB stock HDD with a 320 GB one. The 160GB HDD is just laying around now and I would like to use it as an external storage device.
