MacBook Air :: What Is Normal Idle / Plain Surfing And Email Reading Temperature
Apr 10, 2009
I seem to be in the high 50s, 57-62 C for my rev B 1.86 SSD.
What I am thinking about is if this is normal or if this is a sign to think about replacing the heatsink paste with Arctic 5?

I have seen a lot of posts about new Thermal Paste (mostly Arctic Silver 5) helping with the heat on MBA, most being positive. I have a rev B and have just bought the AS 5 but before I apply and risk the warranty I would like to see how many actually saw lower temperatures after applying it.
So if you have a Rev B and you have re-applied the Thermal Paste did you temperature under idle and load decrease?

A few days ago my MBP started spinning up the fans like I was doing something really intensive. Only I wasn't. I installed smcfancontrol and it reported both fans at close to 6000rpm (5899 is the highest I've seen it) and a cpu temp of 75 c - 85 c while idle. iStat Pro reported the same. No apps running after a reboot and the fans instantly spin up and the cpu temp hovers around the 80 mark. I'm of the understanding that 50 - 70 is considered normal with the fans in the 2000-3000 rpm range. Yes? Heres a screen cap with only Activity Monitor running. You can see the most intensive process is 3.5% and the temp and fan speed can be seen in the upper right.[URL]

My 13 inch Macbook has been getting kind of warm on the right side lately, and with iStat Pro it appears the temperatures of the picture I'm uploading. Are these temperatures normal?? Are the fans okay? I'm not sure, but I think it's been a little slow as well, and I've just bought it 3 months ago...

How quiet should the new 27" iMac's be running? Mine is fairly quiet but not silent. I recall reading a review prior to buying that had said it runs silent, so I'd like to make sure I don't have a defective system. I can hearing a very slight persistent sound. It's so slight I don't know how to describe it accurately--sounds like it could be a bit like a buzzing or a rotating sound. Or perhaps it's just normal operational sound? The HD will also make some sounds like it's reading something even when I'm not really doing anything.

I recently downloaded the fan speed app which allows you to control fan speed. I just uninstalled it and the fan speed seems to be higher than before. The Temperature is around 110 F and 3000 rpm. Is this normal?

my biggest problem on my old laptop was overheating, so I like to keep a close eye on my temperature. I'm using istats menu thingie, showing me my temperature (in degrees F). I've been keeping an eye on it ever since I got my new i7 MBP.
It tends to run around 100 or 110 degrees... 120 if I'm running firefox.

According to the coconutbattery app, my laptop's battery temperature is usually around 87ºF. I got worried when I checked my sister's macbook pro and noticed that her battery temperature is around 25ºF (with the same app). I put a fan next to my laptop for an hour and the battery only cooled down to 85ºF. The temperature stays the same regardless of it being plugged in to the charger or not. Is it normal for my battery to constantly be this hot? I play computer games fairly regularly, but even when I have no applications open the battery is still hot. I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I don't want to upgrade to Lion at the moment.I have already tried resetting the SMC, and nothing happened.

I was just wondering how hot is it ok for the Macbook Pro to get before it becomes an issue. Today my CPU got up to 80 celsius, and I got a little worried, because my computer usually runs around 49 - 55 celsius. Here is a screen shot I took a hour ago while I was running iTunes, Yahoo Messenger and Safari. And here is another one I took a minute ago while just running Safari

Is there a very simple way to show just the ambient temperature sensor reading on an iMac? Not for geeky or engineering purposes. Just to know the temp that the machine and the human are in. iStat widget shows it but really tiny, buried in all the other data, and only if you launch Widgets.Ideally, it would just work in the background and the temperature would show up in the menu on the right side. Maybe next to the time. Alternatively, as a little floating window on the desktop.Yep, just want to see the room temperature using the iMac thermometer.

I downloaded and installed Temperature Monitor and iMac Fan Control - mainly for observational purposes and not for toying around with the fan speeds and I've got some questions. Mind you, I haven't tampered at all with the fan speed settings, just installed Fan Control. Here are my readings (while browsing the internet with Safari and doing a chat via iChat):
Fan Speeds:
CPU fan (desired) 1300 RPM / (current) 1530 RPM
HD fan (desired) 2100 RPM / (current) 2099 RPM
DVD fan (desired) 1300 / 1298 RPM
Temperatures:
CPU Heatsink: 92F
Internal HD: 108F
Internal DVD: 95F
GPU Heatsink: 107F
Are these, under the circumstances, normal readings?

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what the normal temperatures are when booting Windows on a Macbook Pro.I'm getting around 60-75 GPU temperature and about 48-60 for CPU when I'm doing normal things like I do in Snow Leopard. Is that okay? Is it also okay to have such temperatures for like 5 hours straight or so?I'm getting around the same temperatures when I'm using Snow Leopard, but the laptop doesn't feels as hot as it feels when I'm using Windows, and that is bugging me much.

While reading an email, the images on my computer screen started to scramble and shake. I immediately tried to exit from the email and I tried to log off the computer to make it stop but the computer for several minutes would not allow me to do so. Eventually I was able to turn off the computer but later after I got back on, it did the same thing for a few minutes after i had been on a while.

I noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?

I apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram. What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?

just ran a recent update for my macbook pro/mid 2010, and the computer just woke up with a plain blue screen & spinning beach ball - I had to do a hard shut down.I am also having the problem of having my screen going black for a couple of seconds, I read up on it in Support. But I was wondering if there is something else going on.

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have been unable to print borderless documents from Pages.app onto plain A4 paper using my Epson R2400. Under page setup, I select A4 > Borderless Sheet Feeder but then under the print window, the option to print on plain paper is greyed out:
If I go back to page setup and change the paper size to non-borderless (e.g. standard A4) I do have the option to print onto plain paper. But of course I loose the borderless printing.
The problem with using the Premium Matte Paper setting for printing borderless is that the printouts are very saturated - obviously the printer is putting down far more ink than required. I am printing onto 350 GSM card and have used this paper for a couple of years with excellent results. Traditionally I was just printing borderless with the plain paper option ticked and the results were perfect.
I followed some advice on the internet on another forum after updating to Snow Leopard and downloaded Printer Driver v6.57 for my printer. I'm told this is the most up-to-date driver currently available and was released in June. But this does not seem to fix my printing issue and the Gutenprint drivers don't seem to support borderless printing on the R2400 either.
I've phoned Epson twice now but their support is hopeless. The first time they emailed me a link to download updated drivers, but this link started downloading a .exe file which evidently was not Mac compatible. The second time I phoned I was past between assistants for a while before receiving the textbook "revert back to Leopard or wait to see if Apple fix the problem in an update" answer.
Are there any R2400 users or others with the same problem or got any solutions? My research on the internet hasn't turned up much other than a similar issue with some Canon printers.

My white MB is too new to freeze up. Yes, it's been 3 days, my MB keeps freezing up when I'm surfing via firefox and/or safari. Everything freezes up, I mean everything. I have to power off. In the last 10 min, it freezes twice already. Also, the trackpad seems to move slower & not very smooth. I just installed 4GB 800MHz RAM (it recognizes as 800MHz).

I normally do not have need for ethernet but one hotel I have stayed at seems to only have an in room ethernet connection to get on line.Would I notice any difference between an adaptor that supports USB 2 vs USB 1 while surfing the internet?
