MacBook Air :: Can This System Run Final Cut Pro
Jun 20, 2009
My father has the original airbook, and I love the size and design, but am aware that it had several major decision issues and limitations. Does the current version have enough power/capacity to effectively run Final Cut Pro? I'm much prefer this lightweight machine versus the macbook pro, but I don't want a meltdown everytime I try to edit a video.

Last Saturday, I purchased the 15" 2.53 GHz Macbook Pro (the new one that has the battery built into it). Everyone in the store told me it would run FCS2 fine, but after I checked online, it seems that may or may not be the whole truth. Here are the specs:
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD-R DL/DVD-RW/CD-RW)
SD card slot
Built-in 7-hour battery2
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
I need something portable so I can take the projects I'll be working on along with me and due to financial reasons, I neither want the 17" or the 15" (2.8 GHz) MBP. I have a 1TB Firewire 800 WD external HDD, so I'm not worried about space. What I am worried about is rendering speed and such. So, my questions are:
1. Is this MBP sufficient enough to run FCS2?
2. Should I keep this same MBP but upgrade to the 7200rpm drive?
3. Should I pony up another $300+ and get the 2.66GHz MBP with the 7200rpm drive?
4. Taking into account what I've said, what is my best configuration to run the FCS2 suite?

For no reason, suddenly when I start up my Mac, it has the following warning:
"OSX can't repair the disk "Ryan ManUtd". "You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to the files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can."
What does this means ? Why it suddenly appeared ? So, I tried to check my Harddidk by doing a Verify.
So I went to Utilities, select the Harddisk, and then click VERIFY. Then I the following message pops out:
"Disk Utility stopped verifying "Ryan ManUtd"
(note: Ryan ManUtd is the name of my harddisk) Then it the window panel, there is a message which says:
"Error: Live file System repair is not supported"
What does this mean ? Other than that, I can still access the contents in my harddisk ...

I recently moved all my fcpx projects/events to a new Harddrive - I thought I did this correctly by copying/duplicating all projects/events from within FCPX.
When I last used FCPX all the projects/events were there - no issues. Also, when I look at package contents - everything is still there in terms of events and file sizes.
All the library files are on an external hard drive, on an encrypted disk image. Now a week later I have tried to open FCPX and I get the following error
"The document “MND_Z_FCPX” could not be opened. Read-only file system" and nothing will open.
Have checked permissions - these all seem in order. OSX is10.9.5

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

I happened to have a spare 23" Cinema Display and I rather than getting another Mac Pro to run it, which I already have, I am wondering if I hook up the 13.3" MBP, can I still run FCP in it?
I am thinking of using it more of a machine for importing videos in the background, while I run the actual video editing work on my Mac Pro?

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

I just updated to Final Cut Pro X 10.1.3. FCPX is not responding. It has the spinning wheel going. Now it is not functioning at all!
In the Activity Monitor it shows 2 programs as "(Not Responding)" Those are: Final Cut Pro and Codec32BitTool.
When I open the FCPX program, it seems that the spinning wheel starts as soon as I try to preview a clip. I have tried using new projects, projects updated from 10.1.2, and I have also tried with a new user. All have the same result. Not responding!!!
If only I had not updated some critical projects to 10.1.3, or I would simply revert back to 10.1.2.
I am using a 2011 Mac Pro, 16GB RAM

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Long story short my Uni is buying me a mac. I've got to order it asap so can't wait any more for an update. They are putting 1150 towards it. I intend to use it for various things including running final cut pro.
What I want to know is will the 2.5Ghz model with only the 9400m graphics card and a 7200rpm hard drive run final cut pro well, or will I notice a hell of a lot of difference from the higher spec machines with the 9600m card and bigger processors?
I worked out that I would have to put in an extra 241 for the 2.8 or 136 for the 2.66, so it's not a great deal of difference, but I am not rich and I don't want to waste my money.
