MacBook Air :: 2012 Cpu Multiplier Wrong And No Turbo Boost In Windows7

Jun 17, 2012

MBA2012 Corei 7 2.0GHz/ MEM 8GB / SSD 128G.

core i7 3667U, it support turbo boost, max multiplier 3.2GHz (x32, 2core), or 3.0GHz(x30, 1core).

but check cpu-z 1.60.1.x64, it reports cpu multiplier x8 or x19. core speed does not rearch 2.0GHz(x20) and can not turbo boost.

Under Tech specs for new 2009 Mac Pro:

"Turbo Boost dynamic performance (up to 3.33GHz on 8-core 2.93GHz system)"

As this is a feature of the chip I'm assuming this is true for the new Quad core as well. Is it? How can I find out? Any online reviews/overviews/etc. that looks at the new chips?

OS X :: Adding MacBook To Windows7 Network?

Feb 9, 2010

I am relatively new mac and networking for that matter! I am having trouble seeing my mac on my Windows 7 PC, I guess the biggining is a good place to start, so here is what iv done. On my Macbook, I've gone to system preferences/network/airport/advanced/WINS and put in the name of my workgroup "WORKGROUP" and put my gateway ip in for the winservers. But not seeing the mac on the PC. I've been struggling all week trying to share a drive out from a mac and mount it remotely onto a windows 7 machine. Also I haven't been able to see any of my macs in the network in windows explorer on the windows 7 machine.

Eventually I found a solution, which I thought others may find useful:
Goto Start Menu
Search for: Local
Hit Enter
Select Local Security Policy
Goto Local Policies> Security Options
Double Click on Network security: LAN Manager Authentication
Change level to: Send LM # LTLM Responses

Then:
Goto Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
De-select Require 128-bit encryption
Hit OK

But still no luck, all I want to be able to do is move files back and forth from the Mac to pc, and visa-versa.

Software :: Putting Windows7 On My Macbook?

Dec 21, 2010

I installed windows 7 on my macbook using bootcamp and apple told me how to log in under mac osx but they wouldn't help me beyond that.

when I log in under windows, there's no volume even though I've tried adjusting the volume. the screen is @ a low resolution and I've said "fine, that won't affect the machine's performance and it may take up more room anyway, I think?" I can't right click on anything. Also~ very important~ I can't get wi~fi under windows. However, all these things are not an issue when I log in under Mac OSX and everything works exactly as it did before I loaded Windows. I think I need drivers for windows but how do I get them??????

the reason I loaded windows in the first place was I have an external hard drive that has I believe 80 gigs of my music, pictures, documents, and other data. I did not know there was that many gigs of data on there and I had to guess as to the size partition I wanted for windows. I ended up making a 50 gig partition. I didn't know if it was possible to uninstall windows and reinstall it. I bought this copy of windows new and have only used it on this macbook. Also I don't have any data under windows (nothing I care about, anyway) only some music and other data under Mac OSX.

which brings me to another issue. When I log into windows, it says, "This copy of Windows is not genuine." But it is!

So these are my issues~
~how do I get windows drivers to fix keyboard issues?
~is it possible to uninstall windows and reinstall it so it has more gigs?
~why to goodness is it telling me this copy of windows isn't genuine?

~and I'm saying all this @ once because I don't know where to begin and I would really appreciate your help and time.

MacBook Pro :: How To Install OCZ Vertex TURBO In (Mid 2009)

Aug 3, 2009

I'm planning to order + install a OCZ Vertex TURBO (128 Gb) in my new MBP. Unfortunately, as these SSDs are still fairly new, I could not find any information from people who have experience working with them, let alone working with them on a MBP.

Does anyone have one of these, and have you encountered any problems? Or would you not recommend buying one of them, and go for the OCZ Vertex instead (which seems to have a larger user-base).

Windows On Mac :: Going From XP To Windows7 (64-bit) On Bootcamp?

Oct 22, 2009

i've seen a few other threads related to this, but none seem too definitive.
Now that Windows 7 is out, I'm sure many of us will want to run that. I resisted Vista because it sucked, but I want to put 7 on my comp.My university issued me a download of Windows 7 professional 64-bit. Right now I'm running XP 32-bit. I downloaded the windows 7 .iso and burnt it to a DVD.

I tried to boot from the CD, but it didn't work, it brought me to my Mac partition. I kinda realized that was a stupid idea, and started looking for an answer to my strains.Microsoft says you can't just upgrade from 32- to 64-bit, you'll need to do a full install. I for sure want to run 64-bit, to optimize it's performance. So, it looks like I'm going to have to delete my XP partition and get a new one for Windows 7.I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 which has BootCamp 2.0. I don't think it would support Windows 7. Should i first get a BootCamp 3.0??OTOH, is none of this necessary? Is there some way I can upgrade from XP (32-) to windows 7 (64-) just on my windows partition without having to interact with the mac partition?

MacBook :: Noticeable Boost From 2GB To 4GB (both DDR3)?

MacBook Pro :: VMware Performance Boost With More RAM?

Sep 18, 2009

I run a late '08 15" UMBP. 2.53, 4 gigs of RAM.

Would upgrading to 6 gigs of RAM increase the performance of my machine when running VMware with Vista? I can't get any answers in any of the other threads.

I know about Bootcamp, that's not my question. I have another pc.

I use Windows for Lectora Publisher, which is an authoring software for online learning modules. It's basically interactive PowerPoint. It's not a super heavy software, but the content can get heavy with video, sound, animations, etc.

My Activity Monitor says I'm using nearly 4gigs when I open VMware and a few of my Mac apps, but don't actually load those apps with content: (Keynote, audacity, acorn, draw it, quicktime)

Would upgrading even help since I'll lose dual channel? I know nothing about how RAM benefits machines aside from higher numbers = good.

MacBook Pro :: 7200rpm HDD Boost Speed?

Jan 11, 2010

I've got a 5400rpm HDD in my MacBook Pro -- see specs below. I really didn't think much of the slower speed compared to a desktop being a big deal back in the day, but now I'm thinking it is. It seems that many things across the board take a little longer to launch or load. I probably ruined my perception of speed by using my dad's brand new iMac, but I don't think my computer should trail his that much on just opening iPhoto or Safari.

The lateral move on storage space -- keeping 320GB but bumping to 7200rpm -- would cost me about $90. I don't think a 500GB 7200rpm drive exists. I also don't want to drop $500+ on a SSD because I really can't and I might as well buy a Mac Mini at that point.

Mac Pro :: MacBook Pro Hard Drive Or Mac Pro Ram / Performance Boost?

Jul 13, 2009

I am wanting to upgrade either my 17" Unibody MBP or my early 2008 2.8 Octo Mac Pro. I mainly am doing audio production with some video production. My MacBook pro has the stock 320 gb 5400 rpm drive in it and I can see some slight performance loss when using many applications/plugins in Pro Tools. My Mac Pro has the stock 2gb of ram that came in it and I see the same performance loss.

So, what do you think I would see the most gain with. Should I go with a 7200 rpm drive (I am thinking about the 500 gig Seagate but I have seen a lot of issues with the drive) or added ram for the Mac Pro? I don't think I could swing adding two 4 gig modules of ram so I would just go with adding 2x2gb sticks from OWC.
