Applications :: BootCamp - Full Version Or Upgrade Version Of Windows 7?

Jun 17, 2010

In order to install Windows 7 via bootcamp, do you have to use the full version of windows or can you use the upgrade disc to install? I figured I should ask before buying another license as I have an upgrade version of Windows 7 Pro that I don't use. I do own previous versions of Windows (all of them....just like I do Mac OS).

Applications :: Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator - Windows Or Mac Version

Nov 30, 2009

Are you using the Mac or Windows version, (via Bootcamp/Fusion)? Which version is better to buy, Mac or Windows? If you read in the adobe user forums it seems a lot of Mac users buy Adobe Suites in the Windows version and run it via Bootcamp? Or, am I mistaken? I'm about to order CS4 Design Premium and I want to make sure I order what's easiest to learn and best to use.

Windows On Mac :: Brightness Jumps To Full When Doing A Full Screen Apps

Jan 20, 2010

When I have my brightness at a certain setting and then start playing a game, the brightness jumps to full. When I then press the button for less brightness, it jumps immediately to the setting it was originally.

This also happens whenever I do alt+tab to return to the desktop. So it appears it happens when I do something that requires to switch to full screen mode cause it also happens with other programs.

At normal use, surfing, office,... this problem does not occur. And also it doesn't happen under OS X

I'm just cautious since I need the software, but don't want to buy the full package with the Mac App store opening soon, where I could buy the individual Apps cheaper. Also, will I be able to simply delete the trial version and the download the full version from the App store as a was of replacement?

Mac Pro :: Can Run Full Windows 7 64-bit But Not Full Snow Leopard 64-bit?

Dec 7, 2009

How come I can run 64-bit Windows 7 on my first gen Mac Pro, but I can't run Snow Leopard as completely 64-bit (with the 64-bit kernel). What am I missing here? Is it truly a hardware limitation or is it just a software block that Apple has put on these machines?

I always thought that you couldn't run Snow Leopard 64-bit Kernel because of the EFI32. After installing Windows 7 successfully, it makes me wonder if the inability of running full 64-bit Snow Leopard is just an artificial limitation.

What's the deal? I could be completely wrong about all of this. I'm still confused about the EFI32 thing. Can someone shed some light on this?

Windows On Mac :: Photoshop Run Speed - Native Mac Vs Win

Jan 26, 2009

I have recently switched platform from Win XP machine to Mac (MBP w/ OS X 10.5.5). I have license for Photoshop CS3 on Win. Cost or switching to native Mac version of CS4 (can't migrate CS3... need to upgrade + migrate) is approximately same as purchasing Parallels or Fusion plus WinXP to run my current Win CS3 version. I am satisfied with CS3 and don't look forward to learning modified interface and tools of CS4. I think it will come down to speed. Will native Mac CS4 run faster than comparable program w/ Win on Mac (Parallels or VM Fusion)?

Windows On Mac :: The Windows Version Of The Trackpad's Driver Poorly Implemented?

Nov 8, 2010

I am using a MBP 17" (2010 model). The trackpad functions very well under Mac OS/X.However, under Windows Vista 64-bit, it does not behave as if it were under Mac OS. For example, even I did not click on the trackpad, it did it by itself. Is it a driver problem or setting problem? I know that under bootcamp, we can change the trackpad settings. If it is the latter case, could anybody please let me know the configurations/settings that allow the trackpad to behave exactly the same it does under Mac OS/X?

Applications :: Photoshop CS4 Visual Corruption When Resizing Windows

Nov 12, 2008

So I just installed PS CS4 as downloaded from Adobe's website. When I resize a window, the gray area in the background becomes totally corrupt. Doesn't affect the document itself but it's distracting. I tried turning off OpenGL drawing in the Preferences but that didn't help. I've not seen any visual corruption anywhere else in OS X but wonder if it's a problem with the ATI 3870 at all. Never saw anything like this with CS2 or CS3. It is OpenGL drawing. It wasn't obvious I had to restart Photoshop for it to take effect.

Mac :: Which Version Of Windows Is Best For My Mac Pro

Jun 16, 2009

This isn't about help with the install process, WGA or how to fix anything. It's an opinion thread. Computer involved is a Mac Pro quad 2.66 (2009) with the GT120 (which I'll upgrade to the 4870 in due course) and 6GB RAM. I have a professional disdain for Windows but want to install it, and would like affirmation that I'm picking the right one. This is partly for work use when I'm testing Windows apps we've produced (20%) and gaming via dual boot (80%). I'll mostly be running OSX though.

Windows On Mac :: Os X Version Of DOSBox A CPU Hog?

Jun 29, 2009

I have a general question about DOSBox.

I'm a new Mac owner after ten years on the Windows side. When I run an ancient MS-DOS version of the game Empire with DOSBox on a WinXP desktop machine the process barely registers in the Windows Task Manager. When I run the same game with DOSBox on my new 13" MacBook Pro it uses about 30% of the processor and makes the laptop run noticably warm.

Is the Mac OS X version of DOSBox a CPU hog or is this normal for laptops? I'm also wondering if I'm comparing apples and oranges with a Dell desktop vs. the MacBook Pro.

I've tried reducing the CPU cycles DOSBox uses but that hasn't had much effect.

Windows On Mac :: All IE Version On Mac OS Solution?

Jan 28, 2010

I'm looking for a way I can run multiple versions of IE (preferably side by side) inside OS X (So, using Wine). I previously tried ies4osx but when I launched them it would always load up IE5. Now that project is gone to make way for WineBottler, but I haven;t had any success using it. I've tried installing MultipleIEs, and then running the shortcuts on my desktop with Wine but I've only managed to open IE3 which crashed after a few minutes.

I'm thinking an easy solution would be, if there are some standalone .exe files for each version of IE to date, which have all the support files (dll's, etc.) bundled in, I could then use WineBottler to make a .app for them and then I can launch them and use them like any other native Mac OS .app, no worries. Only problem is, I can't fine such standalone versions of IE anywhere, MultipleIEs install all the support files in a folder and presumably required some of the system32 files too... So can somebody let me know if there are such standalone executables for IE versions 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6, 7 & 8 ? Otherwise any other working solution would be fantastic.
