Does the current 2.0GHz Mac Mini have the power to be capable of running apps like final cut express, dreamweaver and photoshop well?
I just bought a new Mac Mini. I bought 4GB of RAM for it, and I understand there is a 1GB memory stick that I'll take out to put in the 4GB (2 x 2GB).
My question is: will that single 1GB memory stick fit into my friends iMac, which is a 20" white iMac 2.0ghz intel?
I currently have the 2.0GHz Mac Mini. I am just wondering if you either got the 2.0GHz or 2.26GHz Mac Mini and why.
View 24 Replies View RelatedHows the performance of the 2.53ghz mac mini vs the 2008 macbook aluminium? My macbook has 4GB RAM, and is mostly decent but performance drops when running some photoshop plugins (which I use frequently). Im looking for a desktop upgrade, and since Im already using an external monitor and keyboard the mac mini seems more suitable than the imac.
But is 2.53ghz a significant upgrade from 2.0ghz on the macbook?
I have a Power Mac G5 2.0 GHZ 1 TB and 250GB Hard Drive, 4 GB of Ram Running 10.5.8 Leopard. Now i bougth this mac on ebay to EDIT VIDEOS AND PICTURES. BUT, i cant do either because all the editing software requires snow leopard or higher. the Mac doesnt even have I Movie, Garage Band. To get any sort of editing software i need snow leopard. To get snow leopard i have to have an Intel Based Processor MINE ISN'T INTEL. So pretty much i have NO WAYS to edit or create videos.

i fell into an early powermac g5 2.0ghz. the processor runs fine for what i need but id like more memory than the 4gb allowed. ive found some reasonably priced 2.3 processors on ebay and such and was wondering if i can swap them out and put 2gb of memory in each slot to bump up to 8gb allowed with the stock 2.3ghz machine? or am i just stuck where im at? the processors on ebay are complete units, so i would just be swaping out the whole set, no soldering etc.

I have a dual 2.0GHz G5 that's refusing to boot consistently/run consistently. Here are the symptoms:- Runs for inconsistent period of time; sometimes it hangs just after logging in, other times it hangs after an hour or so of backing up the boot drive (50-75% complete)- Fails to boot after hanging; sometimes it stops at the gray Apple screen without a wait icon, sometimes it stops at the same screen with wait icon, other times the screen stays black- Frequently will not boot into single-user mode- Frequently will not allow you into open-firmware
View 5 Replies View RelatedOur old powermac died recently (G5 2.5ghz x2), the cost to repair was quoted at 850$, which is roughly the same price as a new Mac-Mini 2.0ghz. Just wondering how the performance of new mini compares to the 4 year old powermac? A new powermac is out of the question right now.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor the CPU of the new minis, I can choose between 2.0GHz (intel Core 2 Duo P7350) and 2.26GHz (P8400). I wonder if I can replace the CPU myself (now or later) e.g. by the P8700 which runs at 2.53 GHz. I heard that this is impossible. Even upgrading from 2.0GHz to 2.26GHz is said to be impossible. I was told that if I want the 2.26 GHz CPU, I have to decide so before I buy, as it is not possible to upgrade later.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHi guys
I have been looking at the new mac minis (self upgrading the HDD and RAM), but for not too much more it looks like I could get a 12-18 month old mac pro.
Is it worth getting the older machine with better specs or will the new mini actually be more capable?
I will use it for photography (lightroom, PSE6, iphoto) word processing (MS Office 08) and obviously email/safari.
I have done quite a bit of searching around but can't seem to find much info on this topic, plenty about G5 powermacs vs mini but nothing on the dual xeon dual core 2.0ghz pros.
Any info/advice much appreciated
Thanks
I would like to know if the mac mini 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (bought at U.K.) has a characteristic in the PSU called PFC and if it is active.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been given the Blu-ray set of season 1 of the classic 70s sci-fi series Space:1999, but I don't have a BD player. What I am thinking about doing is buying an external BD drive for my Mac mini HTPC, ripping the episodes with MakeMKV and playing them in Plex.
I want to maximise the quality so I don't want to recompress the video in any way. At the risk of asking a really dumb question, will I get reliable playback from a truly "raw" 1080p24 BD rip played off a Firewire 400 drive, or will the data rate be too high?
I have 2 mac minis at my fingertips. I've done a bit of we scanning and had some very foggy info so I thought I'd see my self. Is it possible to use both my macs as 1 doubly strong computer, a sort of 'merging' thing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCan the Mac mini with 4GB of RAM run VMFusion 2.02 with Windows XP Home properly without any problems? Is 2.0GHz fast enough, or even 2.26GHz fast enough for VMFusion? Does the Mac mini have enough horse power to run Windows XP?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it just mine or does this new mini power connector come out too easily? I have to be very careful removing the ethernet cable or FW800 cable lest the power connector slip out and cause a hard shutdown. It's a bit annoying.

I have the Adobe CS6 Master collection and a mid 2012 Mac Pro with 64 GB of RAM, 2 TB disc space and most importantly, 2 3.06Ghz processors with 12 cores total. And yet a 2 minute video will take up to 5 hours to render. It's simple animation. It's regular HD 720p. This is crazy!Â
I noticed that when the file is being rendered the computer will stay at an idle 82% with cpu....well ****. I need that power to get on the rodeo.

I still have a couple of OLD apps that require System 9. When I attempt to open either of them I get the "Classic is starting" progress bar, but it never quite finishes. I can start Classic okay with extensions off but then I can't use the printer, and my old copy of Photoshop Elements won't load no matter what I try. I get an error message when I try to run "Install Applications and Classic Support" from my installation disk. I really don't want to part with the $$ for System 10.4 AND two new pieces of software right now.

I have a g3 dual usb ibook that has a DVD/CD drive, 640 ram and a firewire port. I just bought a G4 800 mhz tower that has a gig of ram, but it does not have DVD drive (it's a cdrw only). My Ilife install disk is a DVD, is there anyway to use the DVD drive on my ibook to install software onto the G4 tower? Both devices have firewire but if possible I would like to use an ethernet cable connection between the two. I dont have the correct firewire cable(it's expensive).
A second question is i an os 10.3 on my ibook and 10.4 on my G4 tower. Is there a easy way to transfer all my files, settings, ect... from the ibook to the G4 tower? I don have the osx 10.4 install discs either (if that matters).
I have downloaded apps and I'm wondering if the mac mini can run these somehow?

I have been having some difficulties with my new Mac Mini. I have had the computer since Oct. 2011, but I just recently got it hooked up to the internet. I have been trying to update some of my other Apple devices and I have encountered some difficulties doing so. Customer service has been working with me to resolve that problem, but I think they might have helped to create another. I have an Apple iD as does my wife, but my iD is the primary one one the Mac Mini. Her phone was the device that caused all of the original problems not wanting to update. Tech support has me to reinstall the operating system and when it did it took her Apple iD as the primary iD. I need to know how to switch or reset the computer, because now the installed apps GarageBand, iMovie, and iPhoto are listed under her iD and they won't allow me to update them unless I use her iD.Â
