Mac Pro :: How To Hook Up 24-inch LED Display
Mar 21, 2009
I am having questions about the 2009 Mac Pro and the 24-inch LED Display from Apple.
Is the connection cable from the back of the LED display much shorter than the 30-inch ACD, so much so that the Mac Pro needs to be positioned on one's desk next to the display rather than somewhere underneath the desk? How long exactly does this cable measure?

I have a new unibody Mac Book Pro and I'm waiting for the New Mac Pros to come out, I'm looking to purchase one of the new 24in LED Cinema for my MacBook Pro but I was wondering do you guys think that the new graphic Cards in the upcoming Mac Pros will have a Mini Display port on them so I may use the 24in with the Mac Pro also?

New to mac here. I am wanting to do a digital setup for my theatre system. I would like to rip the DVD's that I already own onto my MacBook Pro. I then will use my MBP to display the DVD through HDMI hook up to my LCD screen. What would be the best program to rip the DVD. I am new at this. understand that their might be encoding that I have to do. I also do not want a program that puts 'Evaluation Copy' over the image. I have downloaded Handbrake but I do not know if that is the best option for me.

I have seen time and time again people suggest hook up the mbp to an external screen when at home.
So how do you "most" of your work at home?
One reason I like macs is because they are simple and easy. I could not imagine going back to a PC desktop with all the wires and space needed. I use a 27 imac at home and a mbp at when i want to be portable.

The connections won't allow me to hook up the new LED display to my PowerBookG4 (Mac Pro on the way), but I'm wondering whether I can still just use iSight safely without using the actual display.

I plan to buy a 27 inch Apple Cinema Display to connect my 13 inch Macbook White too. I also plan to wall mount it and use it to run my ps3 through. I've looked around on the apple store and found the Belkin AV360 to use. I was just wondering if there are any issues I should be worried about? PS3 on a apple display sounds sooo good Also I want to use wireless headphones for sound on the ps3.

I have a 24-inch iMac that is ripe for replacement; my wife barely uses a 2010 15" MacBook Pro.
In 2011 I'm thinking of buying a MacBook Air for her and I take the MBP.
-I would buy a 27-inch display for the MBP;
-ideally she could use the 24-inch as external display for the MacBook Air
-or, alternatively, I would use the 24-inch as external display for the MBP
Would any of these solutions work?

I am setting up a new 17 inch macbook pro for a friend. He uses a 24 inch LCD external monitor so we purchased the mini display port to dvi adapter (as opposed to the mini display port to dual link dvi adapter for 30 inch monitors). However, I am at home setting up his computer using my external monitor which is the 30 inch dell monitor. For some reason, the maximum resolution I can get is 1280x800 on the external 30 inch monitor. I figured I should at least be able to get 1920x1200 resolution, right?? Does anyone know what may be going on here. I know you're able to switch between video cards on the unibody macbook pros, how do I do that as well?

Using an HDMI cable straight in to the tele + in to the back of the iMac through a HDMI to Mini dvi connector. The tele shows the background from the mac but nothing on the display, am I missing something? I searched around and found that a scan rate convertor may be needed...

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2009 running Mavericks. I have an old 23" Cinema Display that uses a big chunky adaptor (ADC?) with a dual USB and Thunderbolt cable and it works well with it, however, I just bought a new Thunderbolt 27" display and it just won't detect it. I also notice that a lacie drive in the same Thunderbolt slot won't show up either. The old Cinema Display does still work however using that same slot so it's not actually dead. Puzzled!
I know this MBP is probably one of the first generation to have Thunderbolt but I've never used it for anything other than the old Cinema Display adaptor.
Info:
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Apple on Thursday discontinued its legacy 20-inch Cinema Display, reducing its external display offerings to just two options: its new LED-lit 24-inch model for notebooks and its legacy 30-inch display for desktops.
"With immediate effect, the following products are 'End of Life' (EOL); Apple 20" Cinema Display," the Cupertino-based company wrote in a worldwide bulletin to its sales and service channels. "All backlog will be cancelled and there is no automatic order conversion."
Around the same time, the Mac maker also removed the offering from its various online stores. Inventory of the display is extremely tight, as production of the product is believed to have been halted late last year. One of the company's largest distributors, Ingram Micro UK, reflects absolutely no inventory (below).
Interestingly, the same distributor has also run dry of the current 30-inch HD Cinema Display with a delivery date on new orders well past due, suggesting it may soon follow the 20-inch model out the door. The 30-inch model is not listed as discontinued, however, as it remains the only Apple-branded display that can be paired with new Mac Pro and Mac mini purchases.
Apple discontinued its previous-generation 23-inch HD Cinema Display last fall while introducing its new LED-lit 24-inch Cinema Display (review), which was designed with the company's new family of notebooks in mind. It did away with a DVI connector in favor of a Mini DisplayPort connector, which Apple has said will become its new standard display interface, shipping on all future products.
While Apple is widely expected to introduce a second LED-lit display in the 30-inch range, it remains unclear whether a new 20-inch model remains in the cards. Any future display update would presumably coincide with long-awaited updates to the company's line of desktop systems.
The 30-inch Cinema Display is amongst Apple's eldest available product offerings, having been introduced back in June of 2004.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

Is there a mini dvi to "mini display" adapter?

I just got the latest 13" Macbook Air and hooked it up to my Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display. It works great but I've noticed that the resolution is not the same as when I had my 2008 Unibody Macbook attached to it. Everything is bigger (i.e. lower resolution) when the MBA is connected. I went into Display Preferences and changed it to the highest resolution but it didn't change. It's not that big a deal, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get better resolution on the cinema display. Or is it not possible with the new MBA connected?

I just received a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon and 23-inch cinema display bought overseas through an Apple official house (though not an Apple Store due to low demand in my country) and I found out that the cinema display has one dead pixel.
Mi question is: should I try for a replacement (given that I should wait for it to be shipped from Apple) or is this among what is expected and reasonable?
I have heard that as the displays are larger, the amount of tolerable dead pixels increases, and for a 23-inch near 15 dead pixels are not a justified cause for a replacement. If this is the case, I should instead be grateful that I do not have 13 dead pixels.

I'm on my third LED Cinema Display (for various issues) but I've noticed all of them have DOZENS of very tiny specs of color that are only apparent on a black screen. Furthermore, they seem smaller than an actual pixel (have to be up very close) and they are only apparent at certain angles (and even sometime change color) as opposed to dead/stuck pixels. These always pass my initial dead pixel check over a full black or white screen but I find them once I get in real close.

Today I bought iMac 27-inch. Firstly I planned to buy 21.5 inch, but when I saw this 27-inch I decided to buy it. I've got Core 2 Duo version.
So, I wanna to connect my 360 to this iMac. I have Mini Display -> DVI adapter and than DVI -> HDMI adapter and the problem could be sound. DVI does not transmit any sound. So is there option to play sound from 360 on my iMac or via headphones? What if I connect stereo cables (into mini jack using adapter).

Say I set up my xbox with a component to minidisplay port adapter and plugged the mini display port into my macbook pro 13 inch, could i use the moniter as a dsplay for my xbox. I currently don't have an hd tv in my dorm and i like the display on my macbook and would like to use it. Also, would it be possible to buy something like an hdmi to firewire 800 and then use the firewire port on my macbook for the video in. Even though the mini displayport is an output, will it make a difference. I am also interested in buying a capture device and using that with the usb port on my mac, but i have heard that the latancy is really bad and you don't get to play at the full resolution.
