Mac Pro :: Emitting Regular Tones At Midnight - No Alarms Set

Jun 24, 2014

My Early 2009 MacPro4,1 is emitting regular repeating tones from the speaker at about 1202 am every night. I have no alarms set. I can't stop these tones unless I shut down. The computer is set to not sleep.

Intel Mac :: Plays Series Of Beeps Around Midnight - No Alarms Set

Apr 30, 2012

I recently bought a used 2009 iMac. I erased the disc and started fresh. If I do not shut the computer down every night, right around midnight, the computer plays 5 or 6 beeps (kind of a little song of beeps). It's always the same sound. I've poked around System Preferences and do not see any alarms set in there. I have also made sure that iCal does not have any alarms set up to play at midnight.

A little more info about the iMac. It pretty much has nothing on it. I added Microsoft Office and that is it. I bought it so I can move some of my music over and get myself under 25,000 songs on my main computer (so I can use iTunes Match). Other than Microsoft Office I have not added any other programs onto the computer.

OS X :: Crashing Exactly On Midnight / Resolve This?

Jan 5, 2009

For the past 3 nights, at exactly midnight, my iBook G4 running OS10.5.6 has crashed (screen goes grey, tells me to restart).

I'm thinking I'm probably going to have to reinstall the OS, unless anyone has any brilliant and wonderful ideas that I could try before going to all this effort?

MacBook :: Horrible Noise Emitting From Pro Speakers / Fix It?

Jan 11, 2010

I recently got a brand new 17' unibody MacBook Pro. Although it was brand new, there have been a flare ups. The last time I had the problem, (note: it is always while watching a YouTube video) this is what I captured before quickly closing the window. http://grab.by/1Gjt

That was New Years day. The first time I experienced this problem, I got nothing on the YouTube player and while skipping throughout the video to get it to stream, a noise that can't even be explained screamed out of the computers speakers. Today, I just had the same problem. I have no clue what it is except that I do know it comes from the speakers. Could anyone elaborate on if something similar has happened to you?

Intel Mac :: No Longer Emitting Sound From Desktop Speakers

Apr 9, 2012

I have an Imac which used to emit sound from my desktop speakers.  Now they've stopped.  I've tried Iceclean, turning off bluetooth, and running disk utility repair.  All of which hasn't solved the problem.  I tried the speakers with my laptop and they work fine.  So I   tried a different set of speakers with my Imac thinking it might be the speakers, but they work fine with the laptop.  The speakers are connected into the headphone jack.  In the sound pane,  output source does not show the connected speakers.  When the jack is removed from the headphone connection sound is heard from the built in speakers from the Imac. I have the latest IOS software installed.

OS X :: ICal Alarms Crashing Mac?

Aug 18, 2010

I use MobileMe colander sync'ed between my iPhone, iPad and Mac (Early 2010 27 inch, running OSX 10.6 with latest patches) (at home).

I have a lot of my meetings set to give me reminders prior most days so I don't forget.

Recently (in the last month) if a reminder gets pushed to iCal on my Mac while it is asleep, it won't wake up from sleep (screen stays asleep, though the HD comes to life, at it beeps as if it is wanting for me to dismiss the reminder pop-up).

Software :: ICal Alarms In Every Space?

Feb 3, 2008

I have Leopard 10.5.1 installed on my MacBook. I have assigned all but a few of my apps to various spaces.

In particular, I have an "Organization" space which has Mail, iCal, Address Book, and a couple of other organization related apps assigned to it. When I open iCal, it opens in the appropriate space. However, I would like my iCal alarms to open in every space (simultaneously displayed in all spaces). But I don't want to assign iCal to every space. Is there a particular helper app that is responsible for launching iCal alarms that I could assign to every space? Is there any other way of setting this up?

ITunes :: 10.5.2 Longer Drag Songs/tones/vids To IPhone Or Playlists?

Mar 30, 2012

Just like the title says Throughout the life of iTunes, I have been able to do this. Now, I cannot. It's super annoying, as I now have to go and sync each individual file. I've got thousands of files. It would drive me crazy to individually check each one to sync. Drag 'n' drop is much easier.

The only difference has been that I stopped using a mouse and began to use the Apple Magic Trackpad. I'm not sure if this has had any deleterious effect.

Mac Pro :: RocketRAID 2314 Alarms When External Enclosure Is Turned Off

Nov 13, 2009

I just installed my brand new RocketRAID 2314 in my Mac Pro (SL 10.6.2).

Everything seems to be fine except for two things:

1. There are no eject-signs next to the eternal drives' icons in Finder windows. I can, however, eject them by highlighting them and hitting cmd-e.

2. And that's the actual problem: When I switch off the external enclosure after ejecting the drives properly, the card's beeping alarm goes off.

Isn't the RR2314 even supposed to be hot-swappable? Then it should by all means let me switch off the enclosure without starting to whine, shouldn't it?

Or is it a firmware issue? I already tried to flash the card with the latest firmware using HighPoint's linux-flasher and a Knoppix CD, but the flasher couldn't find the card (which _is_ properly installed).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Shared Calendar Alerts/Alarms Not Working

Jun 19, 2012

I have shared a calendar with several people, but they are not receiving my alarms/alerts.

I add an alarm at say 30 min prior to the event, but when the even is added to their iCloud calendar, no alarm/alert added so the only notification they receive is the email they get when I create or modify the event.

Is there any way of enforcing the alarm to be shared, or configuing the other users settings to always have an alert. At the moment they all have no alarm at all.

I have tried ticking/unticking the 'ignore alerts' on the shared calendar on their Macs, but to no avail..

MacBook :: Low Pitched Electrical Whistling Noise / Crackling Noise Emitting From Magsafe

Dec 20, 2010

I just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.

Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.

Applications :: Want To Crop A Regular Photo?

Apr 7, 2008

I've been trying to figure out how to crop a regular photo taken with my digital camera down to a 2x2 passport size photo. Everything I've found in the forums suggests ways I can change printing options, but since I'll be sending the photo out digitally, I'd like to know how to save the image in this size.

I don't have Photoshop (except for PS Express), and when i use iPhoto's "Custom Size" option to set it to 2x2, it looks to me like it's still in a rectangular shape. When I save it as a "Square" it turns into a square, but a square that fills the page. Are there any other options that I have?
