Mac Pro :: Pixellation With 10.6.8 On Icons And More
Apr 16, 2012
My Mac Pro running 10.6.8 started doing a crazy thing with pixels a couple of months ago, which is most evident when looking at animated items such as BBC iPlayer/Flash based items/Youtube etc. It's also at a system level in that it replicates on icons. It's hard to describe but I'll try. The screen seems to 'drop' pixels at random, displaying them as white or black (mostly white) rather than the colour they should be. If you move your cursor or the animation changes the 'dropped' pixels shift around. So trying to watch something on Youtube is impossible as it's covered in this 'snow' like effect.
I've booted up from a fresh install of 10.6 from a second HD and all was fine. I then did an update to 10.6.8 via Software Update and I was back with the same issue. During this time I've also have the Java update for the Flashback virus added but this was an issue that preceeds the Java update. So I now have 2 bad installs of 10.6.8 on my 2 HDs!
How does one arrange icons from left to right a Windows. I would like the Mac disk icon in the upper left of the window followed by app and file icons to appear in alphabetical order from left to right. I know it will go vertically and then to the next row.
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), late 2008
I have to hit program folder twice to see the icons in this folder.I have a 17" 2.9 GHZ Unibody, When I go into the finder and hit "Programs" the folder opens but no icons are shown, If I hit it a second time (via left menu in window) they are shown roght away.
I place document icons in my finder sidebar, and sometime later they change to folder icons. Does not matter which application they come from, it seems to happen to them all, but they are still linked to the correct documents.
On my desktop the little disk image icons are coming up when i open certain applications. I wanna make them disappear, but still be able to see ipods, cds, and external drives.
Also(somewhat irrelevant), occasionally when i open firefox, it asks me to drag it in the applications folder, but it's already there. please help. its so annooying
i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.
First off, I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer -- sorry if I missed something.Just got a new machine running 10.6.3 -- ugh, the dock and folders and so on look like clunky Windows junk :-(I miss my simple, elegant 10.4.11 dock ...I don't want to add novelty icons or that kind of thing, I just want a borderless dock that's semi-transparent or clear. And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.
Powered up my Imac today..goes through the usual gyrations get to a blue background but no icons present..not locked just no icons and cannot pull down any menus..
ran disk utility off off OSX cd..it fixed some block count on a .pub file but still get same thing after restart..
Okay, I'm having some problems with my Powerbook. Yesterday, I upgraded Firefox. When re-opening after the upgrade, I had a kernel panic. I restarted my computer and figured I would be good to go. Well, after logging back in, I found that Finder was acting up and I no longer had any desktop icons. Now, clicking the Finder icon in the dock will open a new Finder window just fine. If I go to the Desktop from there, all my icons are still there. So, I decided to restart my computer and see if that made a difference.
How do I keep icons in a folder arranged by name? Take my movie folder for example. Whenever I add a new movie to the folder it automatically goes to the end and becomes the last icon. So I end up having to right click, arrange by name so that they are in alphabetical order again. Is there a way to keep it arranged by 'name' rather than having to do it manually every time I add a new icon/file to the folder?
I was wondering how you change icons on Mac OSX to make them different. Like change the trash icon and all that. direct me to an application that can do this or a guide on how ta do it?
I have decided to downgrade to 10.4 on my G4s but the only thing I hate about 10.4 are the icons and Xcode 2.5, well I don't hate 2.5 but I love 3.0. So I figured the least I could do is change the icons on the 10.4 systems. Anyway, I want to know how to transfer icons, using candy bar 3.1.2 probably, from 10.5 to my 10.4 systems. Anyone know how, this early in the game? I thought I could just save a container of 10.5s and open up in 10.4 and blamo, but instead no go.
I was trying to replace an icon on a classic app, so that it wouldn't look so ugly in the dock. I made a picture that had some transparency in it. I tried copy and pasting from both a .psd and a TIFF into the info window. It almost worked. The app now has a 128x128 icon, but the trasparency was replaced by white. Is there any way to get the icon to retain the transparency? Alternately, does anyone have an OSX icon for Dreamweaver and/or Flash?
So i learned how to make icons and customize the icons for applications. I attached a picture of my new iChat icon. It's a blue mushroom from Super Mario Bros. Now also in the picture is the red badge with the number 1 indicating i have one new message. How could i change that red badge to a coin? I have the coin image and everything.
Does anyone know if there's a way to lock my desktop icons (so my curious kids don't mistakenly - or not so mistakenly - move stuff around or into trash). My desktop is kept fairly simple (icons for the various HDs and folders for homework). We've also had the issue of items going *poof* from the dock - which is an easily fixable issue - but a little bit of a nuisance to have to retrieve from time to time.
Ok so I am new to mac and I would like to change my icons on my dock but for some reason only one pack I have downloaded so far has worked. All the other sets I've tried (3 or 4) come up with the preview icon when I try to copy them onto the default icons. Does any one know why this is happening and can somebody please tell me how to fix it?
I have a mac ibook G4. Okay all the icons on my desktop have vanished, including my hard drive icon. I cannot access finder. I cannot open CD's when I put them in the computer.
all the items/icons on the top right hand corner of my macbook pro are missing i don't know what happend and i now want to switch to my other account and i'm unable to do so because of this incident does any one know how to solve this? i already tried to download butler two times-- i thought maybe i could use that to switch over but butler isn't responding despite having been successfully downloaded.
Today I restore from a Backup, and the icons despair from the right side of the menu bar, I go to system and I check the network to appear in the menu bar but the apply tab is not hightligted I try with other with the same result
After running today's update, trying out the App Store for the first time, I noticed that the icons for many of my apps have disappeared from the dock. They also don't show up in the Command-Tab floater window. I've tried logging out and rebooting but the problem persists.
I don't want some applications to show their dock icon when they're running. Preview is an example. I've used the freeware app "Configure Dock Application Tile", but it always gives me an error saying I don't have permission. Is there another app that can do this?
Downoaded a pack of icons and been trying to replace certain folder icons with the new ones.
I command click and choose 'getInfo' on the icon file I want, but when I select the icon in the getInfo window, copy is greyed out in the edit menu.
I am the only user on my macbook pro and therefore have administration rights. I've checked the permissions of rellevent files and all are set to read/write.
I will change the icon for a Pages document (either using Pixadex or the standard way, I've tried both). The change will happen, but the next time I save the document, the icon reverts back to the standard Pages document icon.
Ive had great fun over the past few weeks messing with Leopard and my new macbook, altering aqua scrollbars, adding quicklook plugins and altering folders/icons etc.
For the most part, ive kept backups just in case. Original folder icons etc all backed up.
However I got a little too keen and didnt back up application icons (original ones) Althougth Im happy with what I have now, I cant find anywhere any original icons.
In windows, we can go to the folder options and choose "Apply to all folders" to apply the setting of a current folder to all other folders. I opened the finder, pressed the "windows" key and choose view > keep arranged by > kind.
It does arrange things by kind, but if i move or delete a folder, it does not auto arrange it again by kind. Can someone please elaborate upon this? How can I keep my folder auto arranged by kind?
