I am running Lion OS on a 17 inch unibody Macbook Pro. I have been watching television on my Sony XBR television through my computer using a mini-hdmi to hdmi converter - essentially using my television as a second monitor by using mirror mode. It has been working perfectly until just recently. Now everytime I hook up the mini-hdmi connection, it is changing the resolution of my Macbook Pro screen. It is crushing the picture of the Macbook down and making Safari - the controls as well as the screen image contained therein - really dark. I have tried playing with the display controls-including trying to get my computer to re-detect my television. I am stumped as to WHY this started happening all the sudden.

if i buy the mini display port to dvi adapter, could i use it with a dvi to hdmi cable for my monitor. This is because the dvi and vga ports are already taken up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i bought a mini display port to hdmi converter and im running an hdmi to RCA cable from to my tv. I dont really know how to set it up to put out the video. I went into displays and clicked detect displays and nothing showed up and theres nothing but a blue screen on my tv.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi recently purchased hte Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter from monoprice. When i plugged it in and turned on the TV the best resolution i got was 1920x1080 (Interlaced) and it looks like crap. The tv is 1080p and when i was using the mdp > vga adapter it worked fine at 1080p. When i tried to go back, (after trying the hdmi) the computer would not display the high resolution anymore.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2009 mbp. I have an old RCA Scenium L16WD14 TV I inherited.
My vga connection maxes out at 1024X768 on a 26in TV!! Would I get a higher resolution with an HDMI connection?
The VGA response rate is already a little slow. How will that affect movies and the like with HDMI in the event I can push a higher resolution.
I have a MacBook Air (11.6") and a Philips 234EL monitor whose native resolution is 1920 x 1080.
However, when I connect the monitor to the laptop with an Apple HDMI cable and a Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, the maximum resolution I can get is 1600 x 900.
The old Mini worked fine with my Westinghouse 24" LCD monitor (HDMI input -connected to Mini via DVI->HDMI cable). The new Mini Server 2010 has HDMI out, so I used a straight-through HDMI cable. The display looks terrible! All of the fonts appear to have a 'shadow' next to them - almost like an old analog VGA with 'interference'.Thinking it could be the cable, I went back to my old Mini's DVI->HDMI cable (and used the new Mini's HDMI->DVI adapter to connect to it). Same results. The Westinghouse monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200. The Mac says that it's configured for 1920x1200.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm considering using my new Mini to drive two 42" HDTVs for a display in a mall... same signal would be sent to each TV, perhaps by using a "Y" adaptor?
Can the Mini do this? And if so, what's the best way to get the signal from the Mini to the two TV's? (They have HDMI inputs.)
Just upgraded my Late 2009 Mini to 4gb of RAM and its running a lot better. Therefore I have the left over 2gb ram which I am selling on eBay. Check out the Link if you guys are interested..

I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.
I have just purchased a new Mac Mini (MC816B/A), it is to replace an old PC. The PC is running two monitors through a dual display graphics card, and in the short term I'd like to use these until I can afford Apple displays.
The back of the Mini has an HDMI port, Firewire and a Thunderbolt port. How can I use my two regular displays (they are TFT and have VGA and DVI connections)? There are also 4 x USB ports as well.
I have a VGA connection to my monitor from my Macbook currently cause I had a mini-dvi to vga adapter conveniently. But I heard DVI will be better, so I was looking to get another adapter. Should get a Mini-DVI to DVI or Mini-DVI to HDMI? Would that produce the same picture cause they are both digital? I don't plan on connecting to any other diplays or tv's but would one be more versatile than the other? Oh, and I saw that Apple doesn't make a HDMI adapter, is there a reason why not? I saw it on eBay so it made me curious. I've searched this topic, but I didn't see a thread that answered my questions.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a Mac mini (Mid 2010) and a Samsung - 23" LED Monitor that has both HDMI and VGA inputs. What would be the best way to connect them ? I've only had iMacs, iBooks and a MBPRO.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a second hand Mac Mini, Mac OS X Server, 10.6.8 It has got 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. I have attached it to my monitor, which supports the 1366x768 resolution (that's a 16:9 resolution). From the "System Preferences" -> "Displays" I looked for that resolution but I didn't find it - therefore the screen looks a bit weird, with very small fonts. Is there any way I can set up that resolution, or at least make the screen look a bit nicer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know this has been talked about before....just cant find the answer.... I have hooked up my mac mini to my tv via an HDMI line but there is zero sound except for what is coming from the mini itself. Its a long run so I used Cat5 wires and HDMI extenders.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm surprised that the Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-DVI adapter and not a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter. The latter would allow you to use monitors that support all resolutions the Mini can produce, whereas the former is limited to 1920-by-1200. Even if you use a monitor within the bounds of 1920-by-1200 resolution, you would need to get a MDP-DVI adapter to use a TV at the same time.
The ONLY logical reason that exists for Apple to do this is that they will make more money this way.
More people will have to buy the MDP-DVI adapter than the other way around. If people merely want to use a TV, they will have to buy an HDMI cable AND a MDP-DVI adapter, leaving the current adapter sitting in a drawer, whereas if Apple had supplied a MDP-DVI adapter, the person would probably just buy an HDMI cable, and probably not from Apple.
I am a total OSX noob but I was able to search and find that I should go under Applications > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup to configure the output. I set it up for 5.1 surround and tested each of the speakers and they work.
However, if I try to play a DVD movie either directly off the disc or an MKV that I've encoded I always only get sound from my front speakers. I've tried a bunch of different DVDs and MKV files and a bunch of different programs including the built in DVD player, Front Row, Plex, and VLC Player.
I should mention that I am running the HDMI from my Mac Mini directly to my receiver. And like I said, when I tested the speakers under Audio Midi Setup they were working properly. I've even checked the options for the various programs and made adjustments when possible. Still no luck....
Can anyone with the new mini and a similar setup that has had success give me some tips or point me in the right direction?
I have an older 24" iMac (mid 2007) that I believe has a mini DVI port. I need to get video from my editing program out to a HDMI monitor. Would a DVI to HDMI be a cheap solution without having to get an expensive matrox IO box?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust hooked up my new Mac Mini to my Pre/Pro through HDMI. when I play music files (2 channel - 48khz) through the HDMI the sound is being delivered at 7.1 channel-96khz. I have tried everything and yet still the same. AppleTV plays same files streamed as 48khz/2 channel.
Is there something I have to set inside the Mac Mini to prohibit this from happening?
As I attempted to shut down my Mac mini, it asked me if I wanted to update before shutting down. I said yes. The computer installed the updates and shut down just fine. I unplugged the computer and took it to my new house. The next morning I started it up, and it seemed to start up fine- the light came on and it made the start up sound. But now it won't display anything through the HDMI port. The tv says 'no signal.' I plugged in my Apple Tv and it works fine. So, the tv and HDMI cable are doing fine and the computer seems to be fine except for the HDMI output. I do not have a computer monitor so I cannot do anything with the computer at the moment.

I've just bought a mac mini to run as a media centre. I want to connect it to my 40 inch LCD Samsung TV. I've tried all the preset resolutions and sizes but none of them seem to properly fit the TV, I loose about 2 inches on the top bottom and both sides. Any ideas how to get the Mac Mini to use all of the screen but keeping the resolution at 1080p (which the TV supports).

I need a 6ft DVI to HDMI cable to connect my mini to my TV. Unfortunately these are out of stock at monoprice. Can you suggest any other reputable alternate site where these cables can be bought for a reasonable price?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought a mini display port to hdmi adapter, an HDMI to HDMI cable, and an audio cable for my 2008 unibody macbook (Snow Leopard). I've been trying to use my 26" 720p Sanyo [URL] as a monitor to display my computer so I can watch things that I have on my computer. When I plug it into HDMI one like I'm suppose to, it doesn't work- but you see static and it flickers sometimes. Was I only suppose to get mini display port to DVI then DVI to HDMI?
Notes: If i plug it into the second HDMI adaptor( doesn't say DVI) and set it to 720p then i get a fuzzy picture that is displayed correctly (You can see the entire status bar)
I have a late 2009 13.3" MacBook, and I want to use my tv as a monitor but I wasn't looking to have 3 adapters to make it possible so I was hoping to have the Mini DVI to HDMI cable. Well newegg said this cable was what I wanted so I bought it for $20 and of course it isn't what i want at all. Where can I find the cable I want?

View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the new mac mini models have multi-channel audio out on the HDMI port? or any audio out for that matter?
This has been lacking on the optical audio output of the older models and would rock if it now has this feature.
http://www.apple.com/macmini/In all the mayhem over the iPhone 4, Apple quietly updated the Mac Mini with a Aluminum case, along with some spec bumps, and some output jacks. The feature that caught my attention is the HDMI out port Apple added. This is the first time an HDMI port, in or out has been on a mac as far as I know. This gives me hope that we just might start to see HDMI ins and outs on some of the upcoming macs.Which brings me to my point, I am patiently waiting for the next iMac update, which I am hoping has an HDMI in. I am a college student and enjoy gaming on my spare time, own an xBox 360, but lack an HDTV. I hope to kill two purchases with one buy, spending my very hard earned cash on a powerful computer (Enough power for Max Settings in the upcoming Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 PC Games) and an HDTV for my xBox 360.
