Mac Mini :: Hooking Up An IMac With A KVM Switch?

Nov 9, 2009

I just got an iMac running 10.6.1 And I still have a Mac Mini running 10.4.11, which allows me to access several apps running under Classic. I'd like to still access them on the glossy new monitor, with the wireless Magic Mouse. Since the iMac has no monitor input port, how do I hook up a KVM switch? Which brand do you recommend?

Mac Mini :: Switch Apps From One Apple ID To Another?

Mar 9, 2012

I have been having some difficulties with my new Mac Mini.  I have had the computer since Oct. 2011, but I just recently got it hooked up to the internet.  I have been trying to update some of my other Apple devices and I have encountered some difficulties doing so.  Customer service has been working with me to resolve that problem, but I think they might have helped to create another.  I have an Apple iD as does my wife, but my iD is the primary one one the Mac Mini.  Her phone was the device that caused all of the original problems not wanting to update.  Tech support has me to reinstall the operating system and when it did it took her Apple iD as the primary iD.  I need to know how to switch or reset the computer, because now the installed apps GarageBand, iMovie, and iPhoto are listed under her iD and they won't allow me to update them unless I use her iD.

Mac Mini :: Won't Boot And Has Picture Of Switch On Screen

Sep 8, 2010

I just bought a Mac Mini and all technical help is closed right now. I am very frustrated as the one I bought yesterday had no display output. The system starts and gets to a screen that has what looks to be a switch that needs to be changed. I have looked at the entire box and can not see a switch that needs to be changed. I have taken a picture and have put it on here. I have googled it and can not find anything. My mouse and keyboard are both new wireless so I have nothing I can even use there. I am enclosing a picture of the screen. I also only have power and monitor plugged in.

Applications :: ITunes 9 And Switch To Mini Player

Sep 13, 2009

So, back in the day (last week actually) I always had my iTunes in "mini player mode" on the right hand side on the bottom of my screen, just above the trash bin. When I needed to select a song or a different playlist, I would click the green button, apply my settings, and click the green button again and go back on about my business. However, with iTunes 9, you have to hold the option key to switch to the mini player. I am severly bothered by this, is there any way to hack iTunes with the terminal fix this? I liked it the old way. Who's with me? Also, when iTunes is not the active window, and you switch to mini, the active screen is automatically hidden (like when you push Cmd+H)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Automatic Switch Off Mac Mini Server When Another User Is Still Connected?

Mar 9, 2012

I have a dozen of macs connected to a mac mini server. This one is programmed to automatically switch on at 8:00 am and switch off at 8:00 pm. However, if a user is still connected at time of switchng off (8:00 pm) it cannot switch off automatically and a window appears saying another user is still connected, do you still wish to disconnect. If administrator is no more there to click yes, server does not switch off and still runs all night long. On former versions (10.4 or 10.5 ?) it worked the other way, ie other users were informed that server would be disconnected in the next one minute and that they had to save their work.

Is there a solution to come back to a similar way of proceeding?

Mac Mini :: HDMI Switch - Screen Sharing Disabled (No Audio / Video)

Jan 31, 2012

I have an "early 2009" mini. I hooked it up to my HD TV through a Sony amp that acts as an HDMI switch. It works great until I switch to a different component (e.g. satellite receiver). When I switch back to the mini there is no video or audio. Screen sharing is also disabled: I can't access the mini from another Mac. Oddly, I can use the iphone Remote app to operate iTunes and send output through AirPlay. I could also access its shared files through the network. I've tried hdmireviver. It works for a while, but when the mini is not selected by the HDMI switch for more than 15 minutes or so, it fails. Do later models of the mini work more congenially with an HDMI switch?

Mac Mini :: Clicking On User Does Not Bring Up Password Prompt In Fast Switch

Jun 12, 2012

I have two users on my mac mini running OS X 10.7.4, both are administrators. When I click on my username in the upper right hand corner of the screen and select the second user, I can type in the password and "rotate" on over to the other user. However, from the second user account when I try and go back to the first user via the same process, no prompt appears when clicking on the user name from the drop down in the top right of the screen.

OS X Technologies :: AppleScript To Schedule Switch Off And After 1 Minute Switch On

Apr 15, 2012

Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

OS X :: Trying To Remotely Access PC Files From Mac

Aug 4, 2010

I'll be moving away for university in a month but will occasionally need to access my family PC at home (remotely) to transfer files to my Mac and manage those files (mainly deleting them afterwards). I've been doing some research and have found remote desktop access applications like LogMeIn and VNC freeware, and I seem to gather that VPN networks can somehow accomplish what I'm trying to do here. Problem is, the easy-to-use apps like LogMeIn are awfully expensive for what they do, and I'm looking for something free or relatively cheap that can handle my problem properly. But the freeware VNC clients are extremely confusing to me, and I'm having trouble understanding the concept of VPNs, how they work and how they can possibly solve my problem here.

OS X Server :: Restart VNC Service Remotely

Jul 31, 2009

I administer my XSERVER remotely via the built in Apple VNC. However, the VNC service occasionally crashes, and locks my session. It also refuses any more VNC logins. This is particularly frustrating when I am off site! Apple has analyzed this and has no explanation or fix. BUT!!One talented and determined technician came up with this magic workaround. If SSH access is enabled on the server, you can connect to the server via an SSH client (PUTTY is great for Windows clients), and run this command:

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -restart -agent

You must log in with admin rights, and must enter the admin password again to run the command. It can take a minute to run. After it finishes, VOILA! you can login again via VNC.
