I was just wondering whether or not if there's a way to change the escape button in an open window (red one) to force quit? I'm not really a fan of the whole escape button not entirely quitting your apps, it's still running (if that makes sense).
View 6 Replies View Relatedi am having some issues with my macbook these past 3days, and its just not the way i want it to be.. alright, let me describe what happened:
few days ago I was using my macbook as usual, then suddenly comes a terrible lag with my macbook(there's a delay for everything at about 30-45secs). it's impossible for me to restart it, so i did a "force restart(holding onto the power button".
After that, i couldn't turn on my macbook anymore, i kept getting stuck at the first screen(where the apple logo and a spinning wheel under it).. that was my first encounter with such a problem on my macbook. what i found out is that i got an error message saying "open error 5 input/output acard......", but couldn't repair it under disk utility. then went to search the internet and decided to restore from time machine backup. I didn't get any sleep for one whole night because of that!!
After the restoration, now my macbook is acting very very strangely.. like if i left my macbook restarting itself, and come back later it would hang at the login page, but the mouse pointer would still be working though(just can't key in my password or click on anything).. feels like the start up time is much slower, i get slow response at times and other minor minor stuff..
The best I could do was change the settings to 5ghz wireless n on the hope that he can't connect to wireless n and that worked except the problem is that only my laptop works with wireless n and I need to use my wireless for other things.
Is there a way to ban this guy from my airport extreme or find out his IP address and send it in to the cops or something. I'm seriously getting pissed at people for using programs to get free things.
I'm trying to automatically convert Excel files to PDFs using Automator. Although, every time the Excel file is opened, I get a message about links to other workbooks. I really don't care about these links and just want to convert the file to a PDF. I just can't get Automator to press the "Ignore links" button on the Excel message. Now I've found out that pressing the escape key on my keyboard activates the following buttons on the Excel message about the links:
- "Update links" (then there's a Finder window popping up)
- "Cancel" (the search for other workbooks) (another Finder window pops up)
- "Cancel" again
Then Excel opens up the file I need to convert, so I can actually convert it using Automator and do whatever I want with it.I have absolutely no experience using AppleScript. Is there a way to make a AppleScript that presses the escape key three times, so that Excel just opens my file?

I can't seem to exist out of fullscreen using the esc key when a video is playing on website such as YouTube or Netflix. I can, however, escape the video when the video is paused. Is this a problem or is it just how they designed things?

When I go on youtube and use full screen mode, pressing escape doesn't work. For some reason, my (10.6.2) MBP makes me press control escape. this has also been happening with quicktime. What is going on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try and watch a full-screen video, like on Engadget, the "Press Escape key to Exit Fullscreen" message never disappears. At first I thought it was Safari (v4.x) so I upgraded to 5.0.1 .. big mistake, saved for another topic, but it still does the same thing. It even happens in Firefox. I have a Spring 2010 MBP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSoftware update popped up and I started it which restarted my Macbook as usual, but it has been loading for a couple of hours. In the meantime, I've tried turning my Macbook off and on to no avail, it stays in loading status (gray screen, small apple and the spinning gear). I've tried escaping, command shift Q, everything!

I am new to my unibody Macbook. I bought it as an open box item at Best Buy. I was desperate for a new computer and I had and still have little cash. Therefore, I am hoping someone has an easy fix for my odd issue. It seemed to be fine for two or three weeks and making my life so much more fun, now it works but is annoying.
Now that I can't return the machine, it is making the "bonk" noise in succession as if I am repeatedly pushing the escape key with no window open. Other times it will not let me click the mouse when this happens and if I press the apple key it seems to be fine, almost as if it resets an works like there is no problem. I can't find any pattern to when this happens it seems completely at random.
There is no odd esoteric software on my computer and I haven't added any weird downloads on it either. I just have been importing music and photos so far. I haven't had it long enough to get it too screwed up.
I did reinstall Leopard trying to clean out anything that may have been causing this. It didn't help. I downloaded a patch from apple to fix an issue early unibody models had with the track pad. This didn't help anything either. I am almost wondering if there is a glitch in my escape key. I don't have apple care, at least I don't think I do, as I didn't pay for any extra warranty.
Something strange happened yesterday to my computer, it had a failure with a software and suddently the keyboard didnt work as it has to be.
I couldnt write anything and it was like command key is pressed all the time because it worked like a key combination. For example, when I press the "w" letter it closes windows, I cantt even write a web address neither my pass to fix something in the settings.
I just got a 27" iMac with i5 processor yesterday. No yellow tinge. However, I do have one issue. My space key squeaks every time I press it. It wasn't doing this until today. Is this normal? Will it go away? Should I return it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy right shift key has fallen off and the key is pressed and it won't release, so everytime I turn the MacBook on it goes into safe mode. The warranty on the Macbook is runout as well.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Air and I just recently realized that some of my keys do not work or they will work when I press the letter or number next to the key that I need. I do not know what is wrong or why this is doing this since I got the computer on March 26, 2012.

my power button is constantly pressed. While I was using my computer, the screen got black automatically after a few seconds. After I pressed ESC in order to get back to my desktop, after another few seconds, the window asking if I want to shut down / log out / reboot appeared...When I'm trying to boot my Macbook, after a few seconds, it automatically shut down, without warning, as if I was pressing power button for a few seconds to force the shutdown.I can boot if I remain a keyboard's touch pressed during all the booting process, like Maj, or Alt, but as you could imagine, it's not really easy to use a computer with a keyboard's touch constantly pressed....
By the way, I won't go to the Genius bar for a few reasons, first, this Mac is 5 years old, so I'd prefer buy a new laptop instead of paying a few hundred bucks in order to change pieces of this old Macbook, secondly, I don't have an Apple Store near my location.
Just got a Pioneer 216-R DVD Burner. It worked great, extremely fast and fully functional. But when I pressed eject button it said I inserted a blank DVD(which I didn't) it asks what I want to open it with. What am I doing wrong? Or what's wrong with the DVD drive?!

When typing, all that is coming out are the symbols that appear when pressing Option, as opposed to the letter pressed. It acts as if the option key is pressed down, but neither option key seems to be stuck.

Basically, I have noticed that sometimes if I put pressure (not really hard or anything just like if I lean my wrist on it when typing) on the bottom right corner of the macbook, it makes a clicking sound when I press it. It sounds to me like something is bending when I press down there. It doesn't always click consistently, and sometimes I have to press in different places to get it to click.
I only noticed it when I applied a gelaskin to the top and was rubbing it to get the bubbles out and noticed when I rubbed over that corner it would make a clicking sound. Its really weird and I don't want my macbook to die as I'm already on my second one this year! I have backed up the hard drive as I have been told that the hard drive is in that corner but I have no idea if thats the problem or not. It seems to be that something is loose but I don't know what or how!!
2QuadCOre 2x3,2 GHZ , 10.6.8 MAc Pro -very annoying issue.Starting normally I cannot pass grey screen of death . The only way to pass this point is to force restart with alt key pressed - and then click on my startup drive ( i have several drives with OSX ) I have been runninmg disk utility / repairing priviliges etc . Obviosly my system drive is chosen and locked in system preferences.

I have a 3 gig macbook using 10.5.8. It acts as if the mouse or keypad is pressed - intermittently. I notice it both using the mouse and when typing. I disconnected the mouse but it still does it. Typing anything is very hard, web browsing not easy. Files, words, pages, etc. get dragged around. It does it for a while, then stops, but starts misbehaving again. Restarted the machine, but it comes back.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe're not used to having the computer's power button on the keyboard. Occasionally, when trying to hit Delete, one of us turns off the computer power. I'm wondering if there is a setting (I really don't know my way around macs or I'd check myself) that can trigger the shutdown only after the power button has been held 3 seconds or more. This would prevent those accidental shutdowns.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have the 1.6 80gig original MBA.I did not use it for a few days and came back to it to find it had been on standby for that time, i pressed the power button but it didn't wake, so i held it down to force a shut down then pressed it again. at which point it came straight on to a greyed out screen for a few seconds and then went back to normal... all was fine. The next time i tried to use it, it would not turn on, so i assumed the battery was dead and connected the power chord and true enough it came on straight away.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I've done, but whenever I hit the shift key on my keyboard, all my open windows minimize. Hence I have to use caps lock to type any letters in caps, and can't use the shift key for things like exclamation marks and question marks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 24" Mid-2007 iMac, with 4GB of ram. I'm trying to setup Boot Camp with either XP or Vista so I can run some CAD software (Solidworks) for a class I'm taking. I installed XP SP3 using media that had SP3 pre-applied, and installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with my computer, then downloaded the Boot Camp 2.1 update. However, applications frequently crash - windows update fails randomly, the solidworks installer crashed, internet explorer crashes, etc. I then decided to try out Vista - formatted the partition, started from scratch, same deal. Ran the Boot Camp driver DVD, applied the Vista Boot Camp 2.1 update, then the crashed begin. Windows Update failed about halfway through the updates, internet explorer crashes, didn't even bother installed Solidworks.
What is going on? I have absolutely no problems in OS X, and I've never encountered anything like this in XP or Vista before on other computers. Jokes aside, a fresh install typically works for a while. It makes me think its a hardware issue - but what hardware failure would only manifest itself in windows?
Never seen so many beachballs and crashes in my life.
