A coworker asked me to take a look at her Macbook because after the latest Apple update, browsing Yahoo and Google have become unbearably slow. What's weird is that it's only those two websites that are slowed.
She has a 2008 Macbook with 4GB RAM running Snow Leopard
I've tried the following:Reset SafariTried other browsersCheck/repair disk permissionsReset PRAMGot a new router and cable modem from Time WarnerUpgraded RAM to 4GB (had 1GB before)

I was just in my room minding my own business and I heard my iMac "shut down" but nothing happened, and I'm still able to use it like normal as I type this message. It seemed to quiet down my fans though, they are still running but much quieter so I guess in a way its a good thing.I'm just curious as to what happened here.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original.I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

Everything is working great on it, but I have a mystery device called 'Remote Disc' in the Finder device list. I have attached a screen shot. When I insert a CD a new listing for the CD device is made & 'Remote Disc' remains.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI finally took plunge and grabbed a new mini. I have it wired directly to my airport and the web browsing is slow on it. For example I will go to engadget.com and it will only load half way and then just stop. I thought maybe my internet was going crazy but my windows desktop connected "right next to it on airport" loads instantly.
It does this on different web sites. I even did the safari reset but its same issue. Any suggestions on what I can do to trouble shoot? I dont want to take this thing back.
I was also wondering if there was a way to Mirror my display but with two different resolutions? I have googled this and cant find a straight answer at least not from anything posted in last couple years....
I have 1900x1200 on my Pc display and I have an HDMI going under house to My 65" Plasma which is 1900x1080
Any software tweaks I can do? This is a permanent setup with the ipad as the remote....
I have the current generation $599 Mac Mini, with Nvidia graphics (just to clarify the model).
My wireless network is setup from an Airport Express.
My iMac, Powerbook, iPhones, Apple TV, Wii, etc. can all stay connected without problem.
However, my Mac Mini loses the connection constantly. It shows full signal, but then it drops out 100 percent for a few minutes, nonstop all day. It makes it completely useless effectively.
What kind of settings and things could I try to change?
Or, is this likely a hardware issue?
As I continue to buy into the never ending Apple ecosystem I now need a cheapo Mini to run our iTunes library 24/7.
Want to have it run Home Share for our new Apple TV's.
Will a cheap Core Solo work? Need to share out Quicktime files in HD and then music, plus read our Aperture Library.
I'm not familiar with the entire product line so must have Gigabit, don't care if it burns DVD's just so long as it reads them.
I've spent today copying all my apps and files from my 2yr old 2.5GHz MBP onto my new 2.66GHz UMBP. Even with them essentially holding the same data, the new one is a lot quicker at opening apps etc.
As a test, I timed the start-up:
Old MBP: 1m12s
New MBP: 29s
I remember a time when my old one booted up just as quickly! So, what is it that will undoubtedly cause my new one to gradually slow down?

since I plugged in a self powered usb hub (for photo printer, webcam) I am running very slowly- did all the basic maintenance stuff. Can the hub or the peripherals attached to it be causing the problem? Can software associated with the webcam (icecam by macally) be the culprit?
I have a power pc G4 733 mhz with 768 mb ram whenever i try to play some games and all games on the internet they run VERY slow do you have any ideas how to speed it up enough to play games at least decently that would help also if you have any ideas on speeding the computer up would also help as the computer is slow overall
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to tell which one is slow, if anything is going slow?
I have an extremely old PC which is normally ok for most things, but gets bogged down if I am doing too many things.
I was so annoyed with our national real estate site after they changed the format that I wrote a letter once a long time ago.. and I was ready to let them have it again, listing all the reasons why it is so bad and so much worse than the original.
Today for the first time, I accessed the site (mls.ca) using my new iMac. It was like lightening speed, comparatively speaking.
Wow, suddenly I knew why the mls people hadn't changed their new format.
But then I started going to other sites.. like airmiles.ca for example, and it was slow as heck... and stalling.. etc.
How would I be able to tell whether it is an internet slowness or the computer being slow?
well i bought a refurb macbook with 250 gbs hard drive, it came with 215 cus of the os etc. now i have 208 gbs. my question is when does hd space start to slow u down

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past week I have been having a lot of problems with iCal and Syncserver. .Mac syncing has been hit and miss. Syncserver continually takes up 99% of the CPU and iCal hangs and is very slow. The computer is still (somehow) usable but overall very slow.
I have tried the following:
1. Restarts
2. Dump iCal plist files.
3. Turned off .Mac syncing
4. Trashed all calendars
5. Used syncrospector to reset syncservices.
6. Dumped syncservices folder.
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on, and what I can do?

I have been trying to get certificates from our AD PKI to our Mac Laptops for some time now under 10.6 so they can authenticate WPA2-Enterprise to our Cisco ACS wireless and Juniper SSL VPN.Since then working with Apple I was told to move to trying this under 10.7 with Profile Manager.I have set up the Windows 2008 r2 NDES server to accept the SCEP requests from the payload that Profile Manager distributes to the 10.7 clients.
After a lot of troubleshooting and work over a few weeks all is working well now. The test users can auth to wireless and the VPN.However - The cert that is returned to the user's login keychain for the client is exportable, even though we mark it as non-exportable in the certificate request template.I have been told that this is expected behavior by keychain when it requests a certificate via SCEP.
So I am looking for two things:Really?? You cannot get a cert in there as non-exportable? andDoes anyone know if this is a defect in Keychain or SCEP?The only other workaround I can find is to then request the cert, and from the client (an admin as we dont want the user to have the exportable private key) exports the cert, deletes it from keychain and then re-imports it with the import -x flag so it cannot be exported. This obviously doesnt scale and requires an admin to touch every laptop.

My computer is running very slow. Beach ball all the time. I have about 35mb hard drive free space and 4 MB RAM. I monitor with Activity Monitor. Everytime I open a program, like Safari, Adobe, Activity Monitor shows they use up to 99% CPU. It goes downafter a little while to a small perecntage, until I try to do something with them. Then many times, it will jump back up to high %CPU and give me the beachball and run very slow. This is a new thing. Does anyone know what may be the problem with my computer?

So it seems that after a few months our computers, yes even our macs, slow down a bit. I just purchased a new macbook pro and am wondering on the best route to take as I transfer files from my old macbook to the new pro. I've read about doing it from a TimeMachine backup as well as just using the migration assistant. But, will moving my files slow down my new computer and make it act like an "old computer" since it will have basically all of the old files?
