Hardware :: Rented Movies Not Playing On External Display
Apr 7, 2009Cant seem to find any topics on AI about this, but there is on the apple discussion boards. I have the new mac mini connected to an old plasma. I tried to watch a rented movie (through iTunes) but all I get is a black screen and no sound. It downloads ok and has all the chapters etc.... but just wont show any picture or sound when I play it. Things I have tried:
1. reinstalled Quicktime
2. installed lastest firmware
3. purchased a song to confirm my computer is authorized
The movie was in SD, from what I have read the problem only occurs with HD, but not for me.

Sep 20, 2009So here's what I'm attempting to do: I want to share movies through my XBOX360 via Rivet. I don't want to buy the XBOX wifi adapter.
My supplies:
Spare wired router
50' Cat5e
6' Cat5e
XBOX is 40' (once cord is draped around couch along the floorboard) away from computer. Wireless router for normal network is way too far away around corners to reach. So I have my secondary router hooked up next to my computer, wired to the Xbox and the computer. I want to share videos through the ethernet cable and wired router while accessing the internet through the wifi on my computer. However, it seems to me that I can't have my cake and eat it too. I re-ordered the services through the control panel so that my Airport connection is my primary connection and the ethernet is the secondary connection. However, upon doing this the Xbox will not see Rivet any longer as I'm assuming OSX just ignores the wired connection since it is set as second fiddle. I understand the easy fix to this whole situation is to just suck it up and accept that I can't use the internet while I stream a movie and just unhook/rehook the ethernet cable each time I wish to watch something. However, as stubborn as I am I refuse to accept this until I have kicked and screamed. Any ideas on a method by which I can have my cake and eat it too?

May 3, 2010I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"

Jun 10, 2012This is my first question here, my imac (mid 2010 core i3) wont read any usb devices, flash drives,nokia mass storage,WD external hard drives or anything else!EXEPT for my iphone and my ipod which seems to work perfectly even tho the cable is half torn! But everything works fine on my windows partition on bootcamp,its able to read and write every usb device..i have the latest version of snow leopard 10.6.8 problem is only on mac osx partition ive checked disk utility and "about this mac>more info> USB,nothng shows up i did that NVram reset with commandoptPR but nothing can fix the usb problem!!

Intel Mac :: Why Do Devices Not Show On Desktop
Apr 27, 2012I use a Western Digital Passport as my external drive. When I link the USB I get no icon on my desktop and the device is not recognised unless I activate the WD Smartware to unlock it. That's not a lot of use when I want to download some files from a computer (like my wifes's) (also an iMac) which doesn't have the Smartware installed. why my desktop won't register the drive and why my wife's computer won't recognise the thing at all?

Intel Mac :: Some Usb Devices Won't Work But Others Are Fine?
Jun 2, 2012I'm new to using a Mac (and thus the forums), however, I am generally PC literate. I have recently purchased an Elgato eyetv DTT TV tuner stick but for some reason can't get it to work. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips from the manufacturer (including software updates and resetting the PRAMS) but nothing seems to fix it. It keeps coming up with the error message 'Device Not Found In Setup Assistant' and therefore I can't watch any TV with it. The only thing I haven't done is tried plugging my mac directly into the wall, as opposed to the surge protected power board its in (it wont reach my wall powerpoint without great difficulty anyway). The product comes from a Mac authorised seller.Â
The other product i've been having trouble with is a trickle saver (TrickleStar brand). I connected it all up (including with and without the added trickle switch) but my Mac wouldn't power up. I tried plugging the trickle switch in at the wall, not just the surge protected powerboard (with individual switches) but the Mac still wouldn't power up. The product states that it is PC & Mac compatible. However, i've had NO trouble connecting my Seagate external hard drive. I've also switched around my mouse/keyboard into different USB ports to test that they all work and they are fine.So I'm wondering if these products are made for/compatible with Mac, why doesn't my iMac like them?

May 28, 2012I have a new scanner and I installed the drivers. It's showing fine in Photoshop CS3 but the window for it is awkward and small and barely has any features to it (there is no selection to for Advanced either). I figured I should try to use Image Capture instead, hoping to have better luck and more features. However Image Capture is not allowing me to go to 'Devices > Browse Devices' because there is no 'Devices' menu listed at all. I've restarted, unplugged things, plugged devices back in. It just says 'No Camera or Scanner Selected'. the Command B is not even working either.Â

May 22, 2012Just today I have installed an application which was to do with sound switching , called "soundflower" once iv installed and run it there was an option "create multiple sound switch" did chose and start to creating a multiple, as soon as it started my sound card panel display as "no sound card founded" and my sound icon on the top bar turned to light gray.
Double click on that and when it opens you will see your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD) on the left. Highlight your hard drive and click on Verify Disk on the far right. If that is OK click on Repair Permissions on the left. If Verify Disk is not OK try to Repair. If Repair is successful then Repair Permissions if it is not successful let me know. But problem still remains.
