Running Diks Util on my iMac 10.6.2. i am given this warning.
=========
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Is it something I should heed and what to do in that case?
I am getting very slow UI response in Lion. (iMac 27", 3 GHz, dual core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, 250 GB free on HD). SmartReporter says disk is operating in spec (ie no alarms). Opening disk folder takes 5 seconds to get a spinning beach ball, with another 5 or more seconds to get the folder open. Also slow on directory scan during file opening dialogs. Even get the delay when opening USB drives.Â
OS 10.7.3, with Apache running, and the usual load of extensions operating. But what I find irritating is that Activity Monitor reports CPU at 25 %, HD occassionally spiking to 100%, but not often, and still I seem to get these unexplained delays. Not fun. Turned off 'disk sleep' in energy saver preferences. Seemed to help for a while. Now not. Reinstalled OS X twice from store and with a USB download stick. Get wierd errors on Console: "5/6/12 5:20:31.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero".Â
Killing Safari/Flash via Activity Monitor makes a small amount of speed difference, but not much.Any comments? Suggestions? Is this a general issue with Lion? Are there any profiling S/W diagnostics that might suggest where the processor is spending its time?Â

Somehow my permissions on my home folder are not right. Ever since SL i've had problems with these somehow. I try to change my entire home folder to: my user: read/write everyone: no access. and i apply to all enclosed items, with me as an owner, but still many folders have the permissions: system: read/write system: read/write everyone: no access how do i fix this? i can't go through all the folders manually and switch them all... how did this get screwed up? Why are there two 'system"? repair disk permissions comes up with nothing. Should i reinstall everything from scratch?

Does Mac OS X Disk Utilities correct permission on all the files and folders on the machine? or is it only on systems folders? If I need to correct permission on every file and folder on the machine, how do I do so?

After upgrading to 10.5.7, numerous permission errors highlight regularly in Disc Utility, which I run weekly (probably for too often). I never saw these with 10.5.6, or for that matter any earlier incarnation of the OS. I have also noticed progammes hanging more than before (especially Mail). I have run DiskWarrior and that didn't report anything untoward. Should I give up worrying about this and maybe join the Foreign Legion instead?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn fact I'm getting a grey screen when I just try to restart. Have run Disk Utility (which always finds Permissions errors - even though it appears to make repairs. Also, after erasing my hard disk and recovering my user data from Time Capsule). When I restart I don't get beyond a grey screen (with moving cursor). I can't install the update as obviously I need to restart in order to start the install process.

I have looked through previous posts about something called firmware causing problems with a (I am assuming) later version of the DVD writer but can't find anything specific to my one.
Basically my DVD will no longer burn phots or music to disk. I have tried different disks but with no luck , all I get is a message along the lines of the burner is not calibrated.
The computer is a iMac PowerPC G5 running OS X 10.4.11 and the firmware listed for the burner is FA0G.

I cannot save images in either Photoshop or Preview because the image is locked and/or I don't have the correct permissions. see the screenshot below for the exact error message. I've checked the permissions for both the image and the folders, and I appear to have the correct permissions (see screenshot). I also did a permissions reset in disk utility and am still getting the error message. I am not the Admin on this computer.

I am trying to copy some folder from my time machine back up onto my desktop but the operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access certain files. And I have changed the privilege for my back up to read and write...but it's still not letting my copy the files. How come?

What has been released to install as a security update? I seem to be clicking on one web link which takes me to another and nothing to actually install. Typical Apple. Really wish I hadn't bought this MacCrap Air - I do miss my PC.

I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available. Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.Â
When I try running the JNLP file from Terminal suing command /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Web Start xyz.jnlp I get following errorÂ
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting... Can not find message file : No such file or directory.Â

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2Â and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for exampleÂ
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.Â
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.Â
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Â Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro. Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.Â

After I updated to 10.5.7 I experienced a few issues. First of all, after the initial update I restarted the computer than I got a black screen that said "No bootable disk found" or something along those lines, this was fixed after 4 restarts. Also after the update i experienced problems while trying to browse the internet. Some pages would load, but others, like google, and theMacrumors "forums" page, wouldn't load completely. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced issues like this or anything similar.

I have never installed Java in Lion, I just don't need it, but I noticed in Safari the tick box for 'enable Java' is still ticked, would turning this off disable prompts to install the JRE, or does it not matter? I find it odd that its listed as enabled in Safari even though Lion does not come with Java installed. Any ideas would be appreciated as reducing any attack vector is always a good move, especially at this time.
