Can someone tell me how to unzip a downloaded fle,
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I downloaded a zipped file from the internet (its stated on it's website that it works on Macintosh as well as windows and Linux) and when I tried unzipping it this message came up: Unable to Archive "thefilename" into documents. Error 1: operation not permitted
I'm on the Admin account so I don't see the issue...
So how can I unzip it? Its happened with a number of files
I have received a 'zip' file from FedEx and instructed to open and print the image, but I am unable to open it with what I have on my IMac.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
ive been using my mac to unzip zip arhcive files ive downloaded from the internet and for the past few months ive had to troubles at all. but more recently my mac wouldnt actuallty zip the files. so i started using a free application in the app store called stuffit expander. but now even stuffit expander wont unzip my files. what is happening? the stuffit expander just says it is unable to recognize the file type which makes no sense, and when i use the default unzip application already on my mac it just turns the zip file into a file with the extension .cpgz
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Have an older version of unstuffit from 2007. Just downloaded Arc Explorer GIS Reader in zipped format and there is something in the header that makes stuffit stop before unzipping.
So I went to CNET for a later unzipper to see if that is the problem, downloaded MacZip (most downloads with Stuffit 2010 next).
I got an .hqx file and nothing I have is interested in opening the .hqx file or launching or whatever is required.
Guess I'll try for Stuffit 2010 and see if that works better but any thoughts would be appreciated.

My friend uploaded a recording of a show on megavideo and I downloaded it but when it did, on my desktop there is just a blank page icon and it won't play on iTunes or quicktime. I thought i might have needed to unzip it so i tried using zipeg but zipeg didn't recognise it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded two free mixtapes recently and I was unable to open the first. I downloaded it again and tried again, same error. I figured no big deal, but when I got the same 'Error 1 - Operation Not Permitted' for the second file days later, I got mad.
I repaired disc permissions and tried again, still the same error.
So I tried with StuffIt and it said "The archive may be damaged (Error #17537)". I downloaded Zipeg and tried both files-it said 'file type not supported'.
I tried the Terminal:
grant-austins-macbook:~ Grant$ unzip bobbyraynodj.zip
unzip: cannot find or open bobbyraynodj.zip, bobbyraynodj.zip.zip or bobbyraynodj.zip.ZIP.
Same error for the other file. After all that, I restarted and tried it all again, and got the same results
I downloaded workpress on my Macbook
I already have stuffit,, which should be enough to open it right?
I click on wordpress, in my downloads and all I get is a file called wordpress, with a bunch of documents that just seem to have codes
What am I doing wrong, I have searched online for help but everyone says it should be enough to just double click
I can't extract an .iso file that is in a .rar.

When I download a file from the internet, the O.S (MAC OS X 10.6.8). only allows me to save it to a few select root folders or desktop. A windows pc allows you to drill down multiple levels (if desired) and save it wherever you want.

I have downloaded an mp3 audiobook from my public library's online database that I would like to load to iTunes. When I double-clicked it to decompress it, all I got was a .cpgz file Double clicking the .cpgz file only created the file again. I downloaded other software such as Stuffit and Unarchiver, but got error messages that the file was not recognized or could not be opened with that program. I also tried to use Terminal and Archive utility, but no luck.

About a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.
1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?
I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.
2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.
3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.
Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.
Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.
There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.
When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.
I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?
Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?
If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.
BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.
I have a .zip/.pages file that I cannot for the life of me seem to unzip, open, or convert into a Word document (.doc/.docx).

Earlier today, i was randomly browsing the internet when i happened to come across a site that automatically downloaded a file to my computer. I did not click on anything and, to my understanding, the site was completely normal. file downloaded: reimagerepairer.exe browser: google chrome is this a virus? seemed rather odd that it would download just by itself :| ... as soon as it downloaded, i went straight to the finder and trashed it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was just looking up the songs of the noughties, and I came across what appeared to be a blog, judging on the description google gave me. However on later inspection it appeared to be a kitchen website. Anyway on the website there was what appeared to be a video, and I was asked to do something, although it was in a windows style 'window' rather that the OS X style. I was promoted to download something from [URL] and I clicked ok, as this window would not go away otherwise, however I cannot find it on my mac, and it says it was an ms-dos executable file, does that mean it will not work on my mac? Here is the blog: [URL]

So now the album is in iTunes, but how can I make a back up of that album to sit with all the other music I have on my pc hard drive?
It used to be (back in the day) that when I downloaded a file the originating URL would get added automatically into the Get Info window. That was extremely handy and painless - no copy/pasting needed!
These days I'm running Snow Leopard and I notice that, not only isn't this info added automatically, there isn't even a PLACE for it in the Get Info window anymore. How can I get this functionality back so that I can return to a file's originating URL somewhere down the line if the need arises?
How do I decompress a downloaded file

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to download Tiddlywiki. The download completes and the Java file shows in the finder. When I click it it asks the usual question about whether I am sure I want to open it, but then it fails to launch and says it can't open and that there is an error. I tried checking the console, but I can't understand a word!. I am using a MBA latest revision, top spec, SSD running leopard.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded an .avi file and the sound won't play. It said the audio was in dolby ac3 code 8192 and I would need a plug-in. I tried converting to DivX and playing through Flip & that didn't work either. I tried placing the file in the library>audio>plug-in>component folder & that didn't work. There is no Quicktime folder to place it in.
