Dec 5, 2009hat I'm doing is a little crazy, but I'm doing it partly just for the fun of making it work. I'm trying to make my Intel so my PPC user can connect to my user via screen sharing and play an Intel based game online with me. I have the screen sharing working and everything, but apparently the LAN doesn't work because we have the same IP.
So, my question is: Is there a way to make my other user have a different IP than my main user? I'm thinking maybe some mac address emulator may work, but I thought I'd see if anyone here knew an easier way before I got too complicated.
OS X :: Hide Installations On Separate User Account
Feb 27, 2009If I create a second user account that does not get logged into unless I manually do it, and then install a program on it. Can the files on there be seen through the administrators account? If so, how would you hide that sort of thing so that the when the admin inputs the file name into finder, nothing shows up?

OS X Yosemite :: Restore User Account From Separate Partition
Nov 30, 2014I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. I have two drives on my MacBook Pro 17-inch, mid 2010. One is 500 GB and one is 80 GB. The system was installed on the 80GB drive and my home folder was on the 500GB drive. Having the "Home" folder on a separate partition was causing all kinds of permission problems. So, I did a clean install of Yosemite and want to put everything on the 500GB drive. Â
When I go to restore from Time Machine, it tells me it can't restore the "Home" account because it is on a separate drive. Then, of course, I can't login to that account on the restored system – I get an error "can't log in to that account due to an error." Â
How do I restore and associate the backed up "Home" folder to the new "Home" account on the restored drive? The names of the users are exactly the same on the backup as on the "Home" account on the restored drive.Â

Mar 31, 2012I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal. I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire. I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive.Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile.The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile.We can both be administrators for the time being as well.I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.This is temporary until the new iMac is released.Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well.But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable. We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)

Jun 26, 2012Firefox has this option on OSX (each frame on separate page), but safari seems to lack such an option. I need to print multiple frames (invoices from zencart) each on separate pages. When I try to print with Safari it will either try and print the selected frame, or it will print all the frames as it's laid out on the page (all printed on one page). Am I missing this option somewhere? Is there an extension I can try (already tried print plus to no avail)?

IMac (Intel) :: Can Time Machine Manage 2 Separate Backups?
Jun 21, 2014I have an iMac 27" desktop. I also use 2 external HD (Seagate type, 3 GB each) each connected via USB 3.0. And lastly I have a 2TB Time Capsule that also serves as my wifi.Â
Originally I set up my Time Machine preferences to backup my iMac onto my Time Capsule, no problem, worked great. Left it like this for a long time...Â
then I decided I wanted to use Time Machine to back up my External HD #1 (where I moved all my video project files), onto External HD #2. This worked great, and I left these settings in place for a while.Â
then I decided it was time to back up my iMac again, so I went into my Time Machine preferences ended the current setup so that I could return to the original settings (backing up the iMac onto the Time Capsule). Â
...and so problem began.Â
My thinking was once I got a recent backup made with iMac to Time Capsule configuration then I would go into Time Machine preferences and re-establish the External HD #1 to HD #2 settings... thinking I could continue on this way manually, each week or so, and therefore have 2 different Time Machines each from 2 different sources.Â
Well, once I ended the set up of HD #1 to HD #2 I couldn't get Time Machine to successfully return to the original iMac to Time Capsule setup. At this point I called apple support; they were able to walk me through some steps to get the Time Machine backing up my iMac onto the Time Capsule, but it required me to delete the original time Machine backup of the iMac on the Time Capsule. Which led to reestablishing the backup (which in this case took almost 2 days to complete). Â
Intel Mac :: New "Other" User Account Appears On User-list At Login?
Feb 1, 2012Today when I turned on my iMac, it went to the login screen and then something odd happened. I saw a second account on the login list that i never made. It is called "Other: and has an icon with lines and spheres (like a networking icon). Also when I click on it, it asks for a name and password.I logged into account and went straight to System Preferences ->Accounts and there is no "Other" in the list of accounts there on the left.just my account. Is this a virus or have I been hacked? Or is this is bug?

Mar 6, 2012When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user. Â
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.  Â
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account. Â
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out. Â

Mar 20, 2012I have created a second user with administrative privileges. Doing so I had to restart my computer. After initial restart the login page loaded showing original and new user but it is dead. I can't log in any of the acount nor to restart - had to turn off the computer.For what its worth here are some thins i did later but so far with no solution.Â
1. I have tried to entr via secure startup but it got to the same dead page.Â
2. I have strated the compute from a backup disk with hope of repairing things from there but I have no idea what or how to do it. Â

The same keyboard works on my Mac when I log out and it works on any other profile, but when I go back to my default user all inputs are ignored. (No reboot or anything works as it's a user specific problem).Â

Intel Mac :: Deleted Old User Account Now Can't Log In?
Apr 26, 2012The other day I decided to reinstall OSX from scratch (Lion). So, formatted and reinstalled. Reinstalled all the programs and updates I wanted manually, then used my TM back up to recover my iTunes, documents and pictures. This is where problems began as my new account (Alex Mason) was named exactly the same as the old one present in the TM backup. Migration assistant created a new user account (Alex Mason2). So I have my new set up in one account and my old documents in another! So I got into the USER directory and transfered them between accounts. So far so good.Â
Then came the issue of removing the Alex Mason2 account. At first this was straight forward. Go to the user accounts pref pane, select Alex Mason2 in other accounts and press the "-" sign. Done.Â
But then, it reappeared! And this time I couldnt get rid. I found this on the support forum here: [URL]...and I followed it to the letter. It describes exactly my situation, that a 2nd user account created because of a name clash when using migration assistant may reappear after initial deletion.Â
After doing so, the account Alex Mason appeared in its place in the other accounts bit on the pref pane. This confused me because I was logged in as Alex Mason so how could that also be another account? It wasnt there before, so why now? I exited the pref pane to see if that sorted things out.Â
Then I couldnt get back on the user accounts pref pane as OSX said it could not load it!. In the hope of sorting things out again, I restarted the iMac only to be greeted by a grey screen (with the cloth texture) and a user + password dialogue box that were empty. Putting my credentials in resulted in a loading icon in the password box and that was it!! Nothing. Nada. Can't log in.Â
I tried repairing permissions (of which some were repaired) and got the same result. I restored via TimeMachine and deleted the second account again. Same again, it disappears but the login name still appears at the log in screen and shortly after, the user re-appears in the user account pref pane again and this time I can't use "-" to delete it. I am wary of trying the above link again. What did I do wrong?! and how can I deleted that second account!

Intel Mac :: User Account Not Showing Up
May 8, 2012Couldn't log in to iMac after there was a power outage. Well, sure enough when I inserted the factory startup disk and tried to change the password on the user account the only accounts that were available were the root and guest accounts.
I ran disk repair twice. The first time I got a message that the repair couldn't be completed. I tried again and it was successful. The odd thing is that the user account folder "m1301" seems to be there but it's not recognized as a viable user.
