Apr 24, 2012I am not using Time Machine as Genius Bar at the Apple store told me it was best not to (I was continually having errors and so GeniusBar erased my hard drive and reinstalled Lion). They said to then manually drag over documents onto my hard drive, avoiding the Applications, so no possible errors could be dragged back onto the clean hard drive.
But now I have Mail and none of my folders and previous accounts. Of course I can re-setup my accounts, but then they will just try to redownload all of the millions of emails I had before. None of the very organised folders I previously had, sent messages, etc, etc.

Jan 7, 2008I have XP installed in my Intel Macbook Pro in the separate partition created by boot camp. Recently while I was running on XP the computer crashed badly and XP system seemed to have been damaged and I can't boot as XP anymore. I would like to simply erase the XP partition and merge it with the main drive. But the problem is that Boot Camp got expired and I can't use the application to do that. Can anyone tell me how I can do that?? I am guessing that Disk Utility would be the one to use but I want to make sure I know what I am doing before I screw up anything.

I kept the installation disk in the computer because iMac would not allow me to eject it. I tried unlocking it. It does nothing when I try to find the info. It says that it is an Excel file and I can not open it either. I am afraid that it is a "nasty" type file. Malware or something along those lines. Â

Feb 11, 2012I thought I could use a 1TB External drive to back up my 320GB startup disk, and use the rest of the empty 680GB for storage. However, Time Machine started taking up 600GB of spaceon the External drive! I was like "What the heck!?" So I put unwanted Time Machine Backups in the trash and emptied it. Nothing, they're stuck there now.Â
I'm planning on wiping the disk clean and starting over, but for future reference is there a proper way to delete Time Machine Backups? Surely there must be; (I mean, who would have known Time Machine would take up MORE SPACE than the drive it's backing up in the first place?

Mar 23, 2012I have my external HDD partitioned for my Media storage and for Time Machine. Unfortunately, my mac is having problems and I want to back up my computer to reinstall Lion. Problem is...Time Machine is also not backing up anymore (last backup was 2 months ago). So I want to erase the Time Machine volume of my HDD so I can use SuperDuper to backup my hard drive...but of course I don't want to erase the media partion. Â So...using Disk Utility, I can just erase the Time Machine partion (volume) of the HDD and leave the Media portion intact, correct? I would hate to erase the Time Machine volume and find out the Disk Utility also erased all my music and movies too!

Mar 29, 2012I experienced what I believe was a crash so after various attempts at doing a time machine restore, I performed an erase of the HDD and have been trying to install snow leopard from a disk I bought from the Apple store. I am not sure if the disk is the whole OS X or not as it was purchased to upgrade from the OS X that was on the machine. I am hoping to do a time machine backup to get my old programmes/software back afterwards but in the meantime just cannot seem to get snow leopard on my iMac.
