Intel Mac :: Can't Open Safari After Migration
Apr 13, 2012
Moved files from old iMac (2006) to new iMac (bought yesterday) that was running itunes music off of an external hard drive. Move seemed successful, and I re-attached external hard drive but Itunes would not open, saying itunes was a "newer version" than what was on new iMac already. Did software update and it did not finish the update, saying try again. Second time, it completed update, updating itunes and then the new iMac was able to read the external hard drive fine. I tested a few songs and itunes found them and played them fine, all artwork ok, etc.
So, then I tried to open Safari and it told me it could not run this version of Safari on the new iMac OSX. Tried the update software trick again, but it still will not open, same message. Under Safari preferences, it shows two default Safari versions, 5.0.4 i thinkg and 5.1.1 (i think) [I am at work now]. I can get around this and get to the internet fine by double clicking my Amazon MP3 icon, which asks if i want to quit and go to website to update, where i am then on amazon.com and have all my bookmarks etc listed on web browser just like before and it works fine...So how can i get icon or safari to open from dock or desktop? I have not tried to download new safari from apple website yet to see if that works to overwrite the others...Am i missing something simple? Can i just delete safari in applications and re-download it or should i run disk utility or ?

Just received a new MacBook Pro and used Migration Assistant to transfer everything over from the old MBP to the new one.
Everything worked fine - except for Mail, which won't open.
I just get this message:
"Mail can’t open because you don’t have the necessary permissions to change the folder where it saves information.Mail stores information in /Macintosh HD/Users/howardburch/Library/Mail. If this folder is on your computer, use the Get Info window in the Finder to change your permissions for this folder to “Read & Write.” If this folder is located on a network server, contact the server administrator. After your permissions are changed, open Mail again."
I can't find the Library/Mail folder in my users folder.

When I click on any bookmark or bookmark folder, I first get a black screen with what looks like the Safari symbol. This happened just a couple days ago. When I click on the black screen I get a full page at a time.I used to be able to open up bookmarks & folders directly to Safari. How do I return to the normal, usual way of using bookmarks & bookmark folders?

Macbook Pro (2012) hard drive died. Have full Time Machine backup on external hard drive. Installed new drive in the Macbook, installed Snow Leopard from original CD, and then did the upgrade to Yosemite. Connected the external drive with the TM archive and started Migration Assistant. It sees the TM archive drive and says "choose a volume from the list below" and does not present a list (which I presume would be a list of the TM backup dates). At this point there is no alternative to quitting Migration Assistant.
how to get my data out of the TM archive?

I'm having trouble using Migration Assistant to migrate my old iMac PPC G4 with 10.4.11 to my new iMac Intel i5 with 10.6.4. I used the option to use Ethernet or Wireless since the new iMac only accepts Firewire 2.0 and the old Mac is Firewire 1.0. I connected an Ethernet cable between the computers AND both are connected to the same network.
Using Migration Assistant on the new Mac, it brings up the screen that it is looking for the other Mac and gives me a passcode to enter when prompted on the old Mac. Using Migration Assistant on the old Mac, it brings up the screen that is it "Searching for other computers..." and does nothing else.
On the new Mac, migrate option "From Another Mac". On the old Mac, migration option "To Another Mac".
What can I do to make both Macs play nice?

I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.

I got a MacBook Air a few months ago and finally got around to migrating data from my MacBook Pro. I am seriously not happy with the results (all I really wanted was to move my iTunes and a limited few apps, and it seems that I got nothing that I wanted). I used a Time Machine backup from an external HD for the migration. Is there any way to undo the migration?

I am trying to transfer music and photos from my Windows laptop to my new iMac.
All the files are stored under my User name on the laptop, but the Aisstant Manager only showes files located on the C: drive. I can also see the boxes Users and Administrator, but they are both empty.
How do I run the Assistant Manager so that it located all the files on my laptop?
