Intel Mac :: Slow To Boot And Even Open A Folder

Feb 11, 2012

My iMac (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of Ram; 320 GB hard drive with 160 GB available) running OS 10.6.8 takes almost 10 minutes to boot up. Even opening a file folder can take almost a minute. I reset the PRam last week and that helped but now back to slow. I checked the Activity Monitor and I've got over 3 GB of ram free.  Could my hard drive be dying? I have dual backup (external hard drive and Carbonite), so I'm not concerned about losing anything, but need this computer to work like it used too.

Intel Mac :: Why Is It Slow On Boot

Jul 3, 2012

I have recently done an update and had to re boot my iMac only to find its slower than windows at re booting. I have tried resetting the PRAM and tried cmd-r then going through disk utilities to repair disk, once this was finished it said the disk appears to be ok. It's still just sat there at the grey screen with the apple logo and the loading symbol.

Intel Mac :: Excruciatingly Slow Finder Using Open With

Apr 9, 2012

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz with 8 Gb RAM. OSX Lion 10.7.3. Whenever I right click on a file in Finder and select "open with" the spinning wheel starts and may continue for 5 minutes, then stops and still doesn't open a drop down list of applications. During this time it's not possible to force quit or do anything else.

MacBook Pro :: Intel X25m Slow Boot Time?

May 22, 2010

I just got my Intel X25m 160gb, and it's really fast, except for the boot time. It takes 30 to 32 seconds to boot each time. I searched around and I did what everyone else did to fix boot times, and I've had no luck. When I got it, I formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journal), and made sure it was the startup disk in System Preferences. (here's a picture: ) Once the white screen with the apple logo comes up, it takes 10 seconds to boot into OSX. Any suggestions to decrease the boot time?

Intel Mac :: Why Does Finder Crash When Try And Open A Folder

Apr 7, 2012

Here's an interesting one for all you intelegent people out there.

I have a 2011 iMac running Lion. I have a USB harddrive connected which stores digial versions of all my DVDs so that I can stream them to my AppleTV. Has no issues with it before now. A moment ago my Mac crashed and had to be restarted by holding down the button at the back (first time ever!!). When i turned the thing back on, the drive didn't mount so I went into disk utility and repaired the drive which resulted in it mounting.

Here lies the problem, I can access files on my drive in every other folder but the Movies on. See the below video. [URL]

have I lost my 660gb+ collection of movies?

Intel Mac :: Won't Boot And Has Flashing Folder With Question Mark On Gray Screen

Jun 17, 2012

I just bought a new iMac. I have been trying all week (with no success) to transfer files and apps from my previous iMac. The last time I tried to transfer, I used target mode on the old computer. It looked as if it was finally working, so I left with 2+ hours remaining on the transfer. When I returned, the computer was frozen and nothing would work. So I held the power button to turn it off. When I tried to turn it back on, there was only a gray screen with a flashing folder with a question mark. I feel like I have tried everything listed in other discussions. The only thing I am not able to try is to reinstall Lion because the new computer did NOT come with an OSX disc of any type.

MacBook Pro :: Running So Slow On Startup And Apps Are Very Slow To Open Like Around 5 Minutes

Aug 24, 2014

I have this MBP 13'' Mac OS X 10.7.5 running a 2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAMs and 500GB storage. The problem started yesterday when I was typing on Word and I copy pasted something from the net (chrome browser) then it froze.I waited for around 5minutes and still frozen with the spinning wheel, then I decided to turn it off by pressing power for 10 seconds restarted my

MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options. I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.

I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.

OS X :: Slow Boot After Installing Windows Vista Using Boot Camp ?

Dec 25, 2008

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .

Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.

And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .

So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.

And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

Mac Pro :: Wireless Connection Is Very Slow , Every Web Page Open It Take Minutes To Open?

Oct 9, 2008

i've just bought my new mac pro, i'm very happy with it's performance, but there is 1 small little tiny problem, i've ordered my mac pro with wireless card, but my wireless connection is very slow , every web page i open it take minutes to open, before i had an imac, the wireless connenction was super fast, then i've sold it to my dad , but my new mac pro is very slow, mention that it's in the same room and in the same place my imac was.

i've check my bluetooth, i've send and receive some files with my bluetooth to my moblie, it was great, but when i copy files from my brothers computer it was slow and then it stucks , with my imac this never happens.i opened my mac pro to check the wireless card and i found this:-
antenna 1 was in the bluetooth card.
antenna 2 was in the upper wireless card.
antenna 3 was in the lower wireless card.

the weird thing i've found is that my speed connection it goes fast and then is goes slow then fast then slow, it's not stable, another weird thing is that my wireless speed is slow then when i press the wireless bars it goes fast then it returns slow again.this is a really lousy service from apple to make the wireless card as optional , it's really unfair i mean it is the most powerfull mac ever and wireless is not included one more question, is there a difference between the wireless card in the imac and in the mac pro?

OS X :: Dragging File Over Folder Doesn't Open The Folder?

What I'd like to be able to do is when I drag a file over an external hard drive disk image, I like for that to open so I can choose the sub-directory where I'd like to place the file. How can I set up 10.6.x to allow me to do this?

Intel Mac :: Very Slow Startup And Very Slow Response Time When Doing Tasks?

Apr 22, 2012

recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,

My Mac specs:

1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,

2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g

3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.

4.i3 processor

5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)

Problems:

1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour

2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!

What I have done so far:

1.I have reduced the login items

2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login

3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk

4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)

5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.

6.Cleaned the cache

Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.

Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.

I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

OS X :: Home Folder 10.6.5 - Acting Very Slow

Nov 21, 2010

I got me a macbook pro 10.6.5, 8 gb memory, and 2.8 intel processor - software newly updated and all in order and I keep it pretty organized and use my permissions repairs and all that malarky and all was fine and good until I closed the lid on my When i opened it, it was acting very slow - much slower than normal and had a lot of spinning beach-balls of death. I forced it to shut-down as it did not seem as if it was in a happy place, and upon restarting, things are going even SLOWER.

Weirdly, too my finder sidebar had jumped back to defaults. in trying to open itunes, it had also gone back to defaults, and when i tired to open my mail, it crashed out, saying it could not index anything... I've managed to get my mail programme working, (practically by reinstalling everything) but - and here's the kicker - I can open firefox and use internet and other programmes ok, at regular speed, but if I try click onto my home folder, or documents folder or anything that has to do with this account, the whole thing freezes and takes AGES to do anything, beach balls of death, etc... I've even opened new account and tried to access that guest account's home folder and documents etc, and there are no issues with speed or access.

MacBook Pro :: Slow To Boot / Launch Applications?

Sep 30, 2010

I have had my mbp15 2.4ghz i5 wth the stock drive for some weeks now and overall am quite pleased with it. However I was expecting to be blown away by the speed of it since I am coming from a 1st gen eee and a dell optiplex gx270 2.0ghz p4 4x256mb ram from 2003 but I am not! In all honesty I must admit that I was expecting more, battery life is great and number crunching is far superior on this i5, but my P4 running Ubuntu 10.10 boots in around 17 seconds from cold start to gnome while the MBP15 with OSX 10.6.4 takes roughly a full minute for a full boot, that is around the same time my win7 boots and no where near ubuntu 10.10, is that normal?

Also I did a very scientifically sound experiment starting numerous apps like chrome, safari and opera. All of which take multiple 'bounces' to start where in ubuntu chromium starts near instantly. Of course I couldn't even begin to run adobe cs5 on the p4 or the eee, but in lighter apps there is hardly any difference. I know a sandforce SSD would make a world of difference here and it is on my wishlist for 2011, but even with a 2010 HDD I was expecting more compared to the 2003 dell.

Recently my macbook slowed down during it's initial boot process. It now takes 42 seconds just for the apple logo to appear. Finally after 1:20 I'm at the desktop. I can certainly live with this but am just curious as to why all of a sudden the initial process has basically doubled (getting to the apple logo).
