OS X Mavericks :: Remove Microsoft Office 2008 From Machine?
Sep 3, 2014
I have both 2008 and 2011 on my machine, and I don't use 2008, so I want to remove it. The Remove Office tool provided doesn't work, it gives me a nice big error report screen.
Info:
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Microsoft on Tuesday released stability and performance updates for Office 2004 and Office 2008 for Mac, both of which also patch vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code.
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update
Aside from the security fix, Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update [14.5MB] also updates the Japanese postal code dictionary in Entourage and fixes an issue that causes Word 2004 to close unexpectedly when opening a document that contains a numbered list.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.2 Update
The 12.1.2 update for Office 2008 for Mac [159.6MB] is more substantial, repairing a global issue that prevented all Office 2008 applications from running AppleScript scripts from the Script menu, while also delivering a number of individual fixes for Word, Excel and Entourage.
More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.
Meanwhile, Excel should now open spreadsheet files that contain invalid characters and see improvements to the overall performance of calculations. Number formatting for some international languages and stability when saving workbooks that contain PivotTable reports has also been improved.
One of the major focus areas for Entourage was to improve stability when using Microsoft Sync Services, Microsoft said. In particular, Tuesday's update fixes an issue that where all contacts in Entourage or in the Apple Address Book would be deleted and re-created when you use Microsoft Sync Services. It should also prevent duplication of events and other items in Entourage or in iCal.
Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.
Student Office 2008 deal
Earlier Tuesday, Microsoft said it has teamed with a select few Apple authorized resellers like Amazon.com to offer students up to 30 percent off its various Office 2008 productivity suites when they're purchased alongside a new Mac before September 8th.
The offer translates into $15 off Office 2008 Home and Student Edition, $80 off Office 2008 Standard Edition, and $150 off Office 2008 Special Media Edition..
Amazon is also offering between $50 and $200 rebates on Apple's entire Mac line through August 25th.

I just got a copy, with multiple licenses from work of Microsoft 2008, since my new MacBook Pro didn't have it...it only had the trial version. I Installed it the other day, but every time I click to open anything up, it comes up with the free trial version and asks me to put in a product key, or buy one.

I have microsoft office 2008 on Mac, yet when I use the citations box, a mere bracket of words put into place, as a citation!
Question is, how do I get proper citation, meaning the type where a number appears in the chosen citation area, and at the bottom of the page, the number along with the entire citation appears?
e.g. (at the bottom) 1 Kyle,Myres.Human rights.The modern law on human rights.April 2010 etc.

my Brother purchased Microsoft Office 2008 for mac and gave me one of the licence codes, however - the code that I used to register my copy is apparently being used by someone else and so Microsoft Office has stopped working. I don't know whether I entered it wrong or whether the key he gave me was one of the ones that he had given to someone else...
I've now bought my own Microsoft Office, however - when I attempt to install it, it doesn't ever ask for a new 'product ID' and just proceeds with the install as normal, then later on Office stops working and tells me that I have an invalid product ID.

I have two computers (an iMac and a MacBook). I am about to buy Office 2008 Student + Home, but I'm wondering about the activation part. Can I install it on both computers? From what I understand, the license for Office for Windows allows you to install on one desktop and one laptop. Is that true of 2008?
If not, will activation be a problem (In other words, does the activation expire, like with Windows? Meaning, I can activate it on different hardware after about 3 to 6 months)?

Does anyone else find it incredibly annoying that you cannot open an MS Word doc in one space and then go to another space to try to open another doc there without being flipped back to the first space? This seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to want to do - I use Spaces with separate projects not applications.
I've spoken to Apple support and they say it's something I need to take up with MS. I am well aware that these companies have in the past blamed each other for previous incompatibility issues. Do anyone have any insight on these problems before I do contact MS?

I purchased Office 2008 for Mac from the Apple store at the end of August and as part of the Technology Guarantee, I'm eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2011. Purchase a qualifying Office 2008 for Mac product between Aug. 1, 2010, and Nov. 30, 2010, and you will be eligible to download Office for Mac 2011 at no additional cost* when it becomes available. My question is...should I do it? Does anyone have any experience or insight into Office 2011? Also...I'm not sure if this should be a determining factor, but my purchased copy of Office 2008 came with three product keys. Apparently if I upgrade to 2011, I only get one product key. Big deal?

So I installed Snow Leopard last night, and everything's been going smoothly; that is, until I needed to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008. I uninstalled it when it was buggy, as I figured it was a simple issue that could be fixed with a reinstall, but now it refuses to even install. I can get through the installer, up until the point where it tells me to select the components to install, and then when I click "Install"- nothing happens. Here's a video of exactly what's happening, to better diagnose the problem. what's going on?

So I was saving MS office documents to my mac, and had to email an assignment to my teacher whom recieved it and couldn't open it because I then noticed I sent it and it had no file extension so I added .docx and sent it to her.
But I was playing around with the same file and remove the .docx extension and sent it to myself and this time it did have the file extension on my Windows computer
Also I have finder to not show file extensions and they still do, I'm a bit confused about all this.

My daughter has been using Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and lately it crashes repeatedly. There is one document that consistently will do this, and it is important for her to keep. It can be opened in Pages, but she insists on wanting to use Word.

I just installed Microsoft Office 2008 and have had nothing but issues since the installation.
Entourage is a nightmare. I have three different work emails that I use through it and I can barely open emails now. Especially emails with html or pictures attached. Today it's crashing on an email that has nothing attached. Here is the log for that...

With the latest security updates now out for both Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and 2011, I wanted to ask the veterans here how safe it is to use on a Mac? I used to be under the impression that you couldn't get a computer virus using Office on a Mac, you could only send one to a Windows user, which is still not cool but made me worry less. Turns out I was completely wrong, given the fact that Pages now imports from Office and exports to Office, I'm thinking if I need the hassle of adding a potentially non secure program to my Mac, do you think my worries are overinflated?
Here is the latest security update [URL]
This security update resolves one publicly disclosed vulnerability and five privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office. The most severe vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opens or previews a specially crafted RTF e-mail message. An attacker who successfully exploited any of these vulnerabilities could gain the same user rights as the local user. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
So now if I just preview or open an email I could mess my whole Mac up? Is this true even if Office is in quit mode? I always surf the web on a non Admin account, would this completely protect me or just partially?
Could somebody writing college papers where one would need to import and export many things into Word, could they get by using Pages or is its export ability still unreliable?
If you uninstalled Office for Mac, you wouldn't lose your documents correct? They would just open in Pages?
If I decide to keep Office for Mac 2011, can I just uninstall Office for Mac 2008 without a hitch?

I'm drowning here trying to get a fresh start with Snow Leopard. So I'm undergoing reinstalling all my old software from a carbon copy clone of my old hard drive. I upgraded to a larger hard-drive and snow leopard and have opted for a fresh start. See my thread here: [URL] I have most of all my software install disks except for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Does anyone know if I can get these disks? The copy I have is fully registered and legitimate. I just need the install disks. The other stupid thing I've done is I can't remember where/when I bought them. Its killing me. The other question I have is if I drag the MS Office 2008 folder from my carbon copy clone applications folder to my new applications folder will it all work correctly? Will it update?

Microsoft's Mac Business Unit this week is making available to Mac users a "fully functional, no strings attached" free trial of Office 2008 so that prospective buyers and users of previous versions can 'kick the tires' on new suite before plunking down the cash for a permanent copy. The 545 megabyte download is available after a quick registration over at the Redmond-based company's MacTopia website. The registration is required to generate an trial product key that will expire 30 days thereafter. Although Office 2008 for Mac made its debut over a year ago, this is the first time Microsoft has offered customers the option of trying the software before they buy it. The trial copy will run side-by-side with earlier versions of Office and includes a year's worth of maintenance and security improvements.
"The MacBU is aware that a number of customers have wanted to try Office 2008 for Mac before purchasing, and they have been working to make this available in tandem with updates to 2008," a representative for the software giant told AppleInsider.*"Today customers can now check out Office 2008 with the fixes and performance enhancements that have been made since launch." Once the 30-day product key expires, users will have the choice to either purchase a copy of the suite from an Apple authorized reseller or buy a product key from Mactopia online and be up and running without reinstalling. Of course, Microsoft fragments the office suite into various versions like it does its Windows operating system. A "Home and Student Edition" costs $149.95, the standard version is priced at $399.95, and the Special Media Edition fetches 499.95. However, Amazon.com has these same editions listed for $111.99, $240.00, and $224.95, respectively. For a breakdown of what's included in each edition, see this article. Meanwhile, readers interested in familiarizing themselves with Office 2008 and the history of Office without downloading the software may want to check out AppleInsider's six-part series: Road to Mac Office 2008.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs).

My Tdisk failed and was replaced under AppleCare. I then restored from my Time Machine Backup. I used the (Command R Power keys to initiate this). It completed without errors (eventually). All Apps that I tried seemed to have been recovered successfully except when I attempted toload my MS Office for MAC Apps, I was asked for my product key.Unfortunately this was saved in an email on my system and I cannot retrieve it since I cannot open my MS Outlook.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), MAC OS X is 10.6.8!

Is there a way for a Microsoft Office application to auto-quit when you close the last window of it opened? For example, when I close the last window opened of Microsoft Word, the icon sits in the dock with the indicator light still on underneath, waiting for me to manually quit it. I know many other apps auto-quit once they are closed, just wondering if this is an option for Microsoft Office for Mac?

Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

I updated to Lion on my desktop a few months ago and I swear now I can't read older Microsoft word and Excel documents correctly on this computer using Office 2011. The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.

I recently installed Office on my macbook. When using Excel, it quits unexpectedly and a window pops up asking me to relaunch. I relaunch and it takes me back to the last spreadsheet I had open but sometimes it doesn't save the last changes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Office files and it still continues to happen. I forgot my administrator's password for my home computer. I purchased office 2008 for mac with a free upgrade to office 2011. I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.
