Sep 1, 2009I have lost all of my address book contacts. I have done a search for AddressBook.data and can't find any files. There are only two variables I can name that may be at fault. One, I deleted the Address Book widget from my Dashboard the other day. Two, I installed Snow Leopard on Friday. Any ideas of how I can find my lost data? I went into my Time Machine and I can't seem to find it, even in past copies.

Jan 6, 2010I synced my Nokia 6300 with Address Book and all about 450 contacts were transferred successfully. I used the iSync. In the meantime, I added some 50 more contacts to my cell phone Contacts and wanted to sync them with address book as well. So, I deleted all the existing 450 contacts from the Address Book on my Mac, hoping the next time I sync cellphone with computer, only the new 50 contacts will be transferred to Address Book. Here is what I ended up with: Address Book with only 50 new contacts and CELL PHONE with only 50 SAME contacts! All of the previous 450 contacts just disappeared from my cell phone! Just like that! I was wondering if there is any chance I can retrieve my contacts, it does not matter where to...either cell phone or Address Book on my Mac. Btw, I am using Leopard 10.5.8 and I have searched all over the web, everybody is mentioning some AddressBook.data.previous file but I cannot find it anywhere! I even created Automator ShowAllFiles Finder Plug in, the Addressbook.data.pevious just is not there. Is there any hope for my contacts or should I try to do something?

Apr 22, 2012I just upgraded to OS X 10.6 and in the process I lost almost all of my contacts in Address Book. I did a full backup before I did the upgrade, so I expect I still have the file even if it isn't still on the hard disk.

May 3, 2012I have a Mac Mini, iPhone 4s and iPad 2. I noticed in the address book on the Mac there were two of each contact so I deleted one of each. This has wiped the entire address book on iCloud and lost contacts on all devices can I get them back? I expect the Cloud has been erased and that I am not able to retrieve my contacts.

Dec 30, 2009I need to restore my Entourage contacts from backup. My Entourage DB recently became corrupted and during many unsuccessful repair attempts, I lost my contacts along with some Inbox email on the Exchange server. I've just restored the entire DB from Exchange, but after syncing the restored DB with the Exchange server, my contacts are missing. So, it looks like the Exchange server not only won't import/sync the contacts from my local Entourage DB, but Exchange 'wins' during the sync by wiping out all contacts I have stored locally. Is there anyway I can sync my contacts one-way after the DB restore (local restored DB contacts ------> Exchange server)?

Apr 4, 2012My wife took the imac to the apple store and to diagnose the problem with the slot card reader they erased the whole computer. I restored everything from a cloned backup of my entire HD that I made the day before using carbon copy cloner, but when I launch iTunes all of my playlists are gone. I have tried to remove the "itunes music library.xml" and itunes Lib.itl files and reimport them by "Importing PLaylists" multiple times and it hasn't worked.
Also when I do this procedure the itunes layout of the Artists/Albums/etc converts to a new format with a much smaller font and I can't seem to change it back to the way I was used to seeing my Music (with the 3 wide columns of Genres/Artists/Albums at the top with a light blue background color). I tried recopying the entire itunes folder from the backup and that restored the itunes window to the way that I had it setup previously but the playlists are still missing.

Mar 25, 2010I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like
xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.
This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought.Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !
Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?
All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.

Intel Mac :: Iphone Contacts Won't Sync To It
Apr 16, 2012I've had an iphone 4 for 2 years, always syncing contacts with outlook on my old PC. Everything worked fine until icloud; I then found that any new contacts weren't syncing to outlook, I'm assuming because the phone was only syncing to icloud? No matter, decided not to worry as I wanted to buy a mac, having worked with them recently.
So my issue now is (very similar to before) that I can't sync my contacts from my iphone to my mac, again because it insists the phone is backing up to icloud. I tried this morning; it prompted me that the phone was 'on' icloud and therefore not syncing with mac etc; I checked the box to sync contacts, hit apply and merge in the hopes I could get my contacts from my phone onto the mac. Instead it's created another phone book on my iphone with just the three contacts that were on the mac?!
Now when I go to contacts on my iphone it has three groups: All contacts, all on my iphone and all icloud. The first and last have all my contacts in; the all on my iphone has zero. I know the transition to something new isn't always easy, but I'm now really confused.The Mac is on Snow Leopard, and my understanding of browsing the forums is that only lion will work with icloud. I haven't bought any software yet, so I'm not concerned about compatibilty if I upgrade. I AM however concerned as to how icloud will work if I do upgrade?
Will it use the iMac or the iphone as the 'senior' device?
If it uses the mac will I lose all my contacts?
With cloud do I not need to backup my iphone?

Aug 22, 2014It seems that the contacts app has suddenly become incapable of accessing my contacts in the cloud. Its fine on icloud.com, its fine on my phone, and its fine on my ipads. However, I'm getting an error message right now which I think must be to do with an update to Little Snitch which I did almost immediately before, and which necessitated a reboot. Since the reboot, I am seeing the following
Of course, this also means Messages doesnt work. LS is not blocking any icloud things, and calendars and mail are still working with no issues.Â
