I downloaded a .part file and now I can't delete it from my desktop! I've tried everything, I think. When I try, I get the dialog box that says it is a file that can't be deleted!
View 3 RepliesI have been offered update on Adobe Reader appx 12 times now and it has been accepted and closed other programs to install. It 9.5.1 version. Now I have two pdf files on my desktop 28bea10-8739248572913388.pdf and a similar one which cannot be trashed or removed from the desktop. A sign comes up cannot be deleted therefore cannot be removed from the desktop.

Restarted, but persistent... when I drag a file from an open folder on my desktop, the entire desktop flickers like you can see below. Like ghosted images of all the icons and open windows get scrambled around. It happens in a fraction of a second, but I was able to capture a screen shot. Please let me know what this means.Â

I dragged several of my favourite photos out of Aperture and onto my desktop. To get rid of the clutter I want to delete the desktop photos without deleting the copy I have of them in Aperture. If I drag the desktop photos into the trash, will I still have these photos in Aperture? Wondering if when I dragged the photo onto the desktop it was just a copy of what's held in Aperture or did it actually transfer them out of Aperture?

I have my desktop filled with folder, icons, etc. I want to create a 2nd desktop and delete all the crap. Will all my folders and icons still be in my original desktop if I create a new desktop and clean it up? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?

I won't open it cuz I'm afraid of what it is, lol (Windows still clogging my brain). Anyway, I can drag it to the trash and delete the trash, but after a bit, it reappears.

I was wondering if you delete all the files from these will that delete the file as a whole. Are these just shortcuts showing you what has been looked through etc.?
I have foolishly moved a time machine back-up file from my external drive to trash. My problem is now that I cannot delete it properly from trash. Moreover, I my external hard drive is acting up. I can�t eject the drive, I can�t write to it and I can�t delete or repair it from Disc Utility.
The file in the trash has got ...inProgress and I have tried to empty trash with normal empty, secure empty and through Terminal.
I have my iTunes library on an external drive. I'm deleting a bunch of old music that I dont listen to in order to free up some space.
1. For some albums, I deleted them from iTunes, but I did not delete them from the hard drive(I did not get prompted, as iTunes was confused at the time and did not think the external drive was plugged in). Is there a way to figure out what files exist on the hardrive that were deleted in iTunes so that I can clean them up? Some utility maybe....
2. Many of the albums have a separate cover art jpg in the directory that does not get deleted. Is there a utility or easy way to scan the disk and clean these up as well?
is there any way in Mac Os X to have the Shift-Delete function that you have in Windows to permanently delete a file without having it sent to the Trash first?
Is it possible to remove selected files in your trash? Like video? Appzapper will not remove these files.

Is it possible to back up only one instance of a file backup up to TM? I am using TM to backup my VMWare Fusion disk (about 13GB) and it takes up a lot of space and I don't need all those copies!
I did a terrible mistake by deleting the whole of /private file using daisy-disk. The file probably would not have been in the trash as they had warn me beforehand, saying that it will be deleted forever. When i right click a single item to delete, the only option i appear to have is to delete everything there. Surely this can't be right?

I was working to erase extra users to free up space on my iMac. I mistakenly threw away the admin. now the computer is locked up and I am unable to take the content off the machine for a clean reinstall. Is there a way to access the machine threw the Root User or Super Administer to recover control of the machine and make another user the admin of the machine? I am able to login and logout out to different users.
