MacBook Air :: Final Cut Express - Edit Together Video Footage

May 19, 2008

I need to edit together some video footage. I was going to digitize the footage on a PC (using adobe premiere) then edit it with Final Cut Express. I haven't purchased Final Cut Express yet, I'll only purchase it if I know it will work with footage digitized from a PC, does anyone here know if it's possible to use or import windows footage in to FCE? It will be saved as DV Avi files (I guess).

Hardware :: Which External Blu - Ray Burner - Edit Video Footage

Nov 15, 2008

I have Canon HD Camcorder that I use to record family events, sappy stuff, etc. I haven't purchased Final Cut (mostly because I don't know how to use it), so I use iMovie to edit the video footage. I'm sick of having to "down-convert" the footage to get it onto a DVD so others can view it, so I'm looking to buy an external Blu-Ray burner (external because I have a newish Macbook). It looks like I have three choices at this point: LG (model BE06LU11), LaCie (d2), or Buffalo Technology. Has anyone tried (and been successful) at accomplishing what I'm trying to do, and if so, with which burner?

Applications :: Trying To Use I Movie To Edit/put Togather Some Footage?

Mar 15, 2009

I've tried searching for this in the forum here, but didn't have any luck. I'm trying to use iMovie to edit/put together some footage I have. It is from a DVD that was filmed during a church service. The format shows up as .VOB. But it will not let me import this into iMovie to edit. What format do I have to have to import it and be able to edit? Does it have to be .avi? mp4?

IMac PPC :: Reformatting G5 With Broken Optical Drive To Edit Footage For CNN

Feb 27, 2012

I need to reformat my iMac G5, but my optical drive doesn't work. How can I restore my iMac to factory settings and then reinstall from the purchased discs, Aperature, Final Draft and Final Cut Studio 7? Can I use my Ibook unibody's drive to somehow do this? Desperate to edit footage from my trip to South Sudan for CNN and NBC, and my macbook's screen has a 3 inch black line down the middle (that's another matter entirely!)... hence using the iMac. (Which by the way, has 2GB RAM.) Also, while I'm here, is it easy the replace the optical drive myself? I've successfully done it with my MacBook, but the imac looks like not possible.

OS X :: Screen Capture Video Recorder For Mac?

Aug 1, 2010

I am looking for a good quality/fast free screen capture video recorder software for my iMac that I can record things on my screen.

I require a software that is resizable to your specific dimensions that you require recording of.

For example, if you only wanted to capture and record a section in Pages, you would be able to click and drag how much area you wish to record.

I have tried both "Capture Me" and "Copernicus", but I had issues with both. Copernicus seems to let me click and drag the surface area I wish (then nothing else besides a viewfinder preview window pops up), then when I hit record it might record a second or two and then shut off... or maybe that was on Capture Me, I cannot remember right now...

Does anyone have a good video screen capture software? I really liked the Hypercam on Windows, but that had a water mark that needed to be paid to remove...

Software :: Google Drops Support For H.264 Video In Chrome To Push Web

Jan 11, 2011

Google has announced the intention to remove support for H.264 video playback from its Crome browser to "enable open innovation," yet still apparently plans to promote Adobe Flash. According to Google's product manager of Chrome Mike Jazayeri, the company will be "focusing our investments in those technologies that are developed and licensed based on open web principles," at least when it comes to WebM VP8 and Theora video codecs Google released after acquiring On2 last year. That effort excludes support for the ISO's MPEG 4 H.264 codec, which is commercially licensed by its pool of patent holders. Google is apparently not exercising the same principles when it comes to supporting Adobe Flash, which unlike H.264, is completely proprietary to one company rather than being administered by a standards body.

Hardware :: Eyetv 250 Versus TVMax Versus Blackmagic Video Recorder?

Apr 30, 2008

I'm trying to decide which product to buy and I was hoping for some advice.

First and foremost I want a device so that I may transfer my VHS tapes to DVD.

Live TV recording is secondary but for the price, I'd like to find the device that suits me best so I can continue to use it after i've transferred all my VHS.

Here are my concerns:

1) I'm going to be moving from the US to Ireland in a couple of months (not sure for how long, could be years+) Obviously there's the whole NTSC vs. PAL, ATSC vs. DVB.

I know with EyeTV 250 it's either or, any ideas if buying some sort of converter is an option (prices, quality)? If I bought just a PAL one, would I still be able to convert VHS or would it be completely unusable in the US?

2) I'd like some sort of HD/Digital abilities. From what I can tell TVMax is analog only and Blackmagic may also be but I can't find more specs on that.

Does this mean they'll be useless once the US undergoes the conversion?

So as of now I'm leaning towards EyeTV 250 but the question are there any forseeable problems with using a PAL to NTSC converter or using a PAL EyeTV in the US just to convert VHS.

OS X :: Trying To Record PS3 Footage On Intel Macbook Pro?

Jan 3, 2009

I recently got a new Macbook Pro, and I am trying to record some gameplay footage of my online adventures in PS3 games to share with friends. I would like to record in preferably HD 720p if possible, but Standard Definition would be acceptable only if I can play the game in HD on my Television while it recorded in SD. My TV does not have any outputs, only input connections for component, composite, and HDMI.

I've done a lot of researching on the internet, and the closest thing I found to what I was looking for was the Hava HD Wireless. [URL] The problem is that it doesn't seem to say anywhere that it will work with a Mac. I was wondering if there is any Mac solution to my problem.

Mac Pro :: Video Edit - More RAM / Card?

Nov 6, 2010

Got 6GB RAM on 2009 2.66 Mac Pro with 4870. The upcoming 5870 is $450. 12 GB (3x4GB) is $320 and 16 GB (4x4GB) is $425, and finally 24 GB (3x8GB) is $820. Which purchase or combo of purchase is best for video edit on Final Cut Pro? BTW, any additional benefits of getting the 5870? Gaming would be better (I game a little; X-Plane & Call of Duty), but wouldn't some apps off load to the GPU to make the CPU faster, though I don't know what those apps would be. I could run 2 displays with 5870 with ease, not sure if the 4870 can handle 2 displays.

MacBook Pro :: Edit Audio - Video 3d?

Aug 10, 2009

Concerning The Difference Between A Hd 7200 And 5400. Saw In Some Webs Tests Comparing The 2 Hard Drives.. wd, hitachi, seagate. But They Are Always Based On Simple Tests When U Cannot Notice The Real Difference Between 7200 Vs 5400...and That Really Make Confused The People. The Difference Are Huge When Working N Digital Tasks..like Audio,video,3d..and So On..rather Than Office, copy A File,internet..and ********s Like That. In Logic Audio Pro U Can Perform With Up 10 Tracks More In 7200 Than In 5400,above All With The New 16 Mb/3 Gh.in Final Cut U Can Render Fluidly And Faster With A 7200 Than A 5400. Now,yes the Hard Drivers Get A Bit (just A Bit) More Noisy..gain More Temperature And In Some Cases Vibrate More. This Is The Truth. But In Other Hand, the Issues With 500 Hd 7200/5400..are Unfortunately Real. If U Got A Mbp (mid-09 Or Even Late 08),avoid Hard Drives With G-force P. At Least. MacBook Air :: Edit Video On 13 Inch Ultimate?

Dec 3, 2010

I'm considering whether to buy a 13" base model (except 4gb RAM) or a 13" ultimate (2.13/4/256), which is stocked by my local Apple Store. The base model would be fine for what I do now (Pages, Safari, Mail, Skype, Netflix streaming). But I'm thinking of getting into video editing in the next year. A reviewer on Amazon wrote this about the 13" base model with 2gb RAM: "I've edited HD video on the unit (no problems), (though exporting is obviously much slower than on my imac, as to be expected, but editing and working on the footage was pretty much the same, it's only in exporting where you realize the machine is slower). If you do a lot of video work, or you render out animations a lot, you can use this machine to do your work, and your desktop to handle the heavy processing. Just store your files on a usb flash drive and xfer to your desktop to handle the render. I plan [more tests with] iphoto and imovie, (I want to try out the new features) as well as my regular workflow (lightroom / cs5) and final cut.".....
