Intel Mac :: Cannot Connect To Internet - Server Lights Yellow

Jun 13, 2012

All of a sudden I cannot connect to the internet. I use both Safari and Firefox and have not been having any problems. My machine tells me that it is connected to the ethernet and I have an IP address and everything else, but it just won't connect. I run diagnostics and the internet and server lights are yellow, not green. There are no proxy servers and I changed the firewall settings to allow all connections. Still doesn't work. My provider tole me to exchange the modem today and see if that works. They say they can see my computer but they can't communicate with it. Is there some hidden firewall somewhere in the OS.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Connect To Internet

Feb 17, 2012

Other macs on my network have no trouble connecting, just the macbook pro, so it's not the router or ISP.  This laptop previously had no trouble connecting to the internet on this network.  It continually says ISP failed (airport, airport status and network settings are all green).  Laptop running 10.6.8.  I tried turning Configure IPv6 off, no change.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mac Can't Connect To Internet / No IP / No DNS

Apr 1, 2012

My Mac Mini Server with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server doesn't connect to the Internet. It can connect to the router either via Ethernet or Airport, but it can not get an IP address -- it always assigns itself a random IP address which is not in the correct range for the router. All other devices, including PC, iPhone and iPad can work correctly with the router. When I manually typed in the router's IP in Safari,, I can see the router admin page. But typing in any external IP nothing shows up.Thinking it might be the router's problem, I used iPhone 4S' tethering tried wifi, USB, Bluetooth tethering and the Mac Mini still doesn't have any Internet connection.I changed the DNS in the Network preferences, trying Google's public DNS, my ISP's DNS, and empty DNS.

Intel Mac :: 24" Refuses To Connect To The Internet

Mar 31, 2012

I have a early 2008 24" iMac running 10.7.2

It's been working fine on the internet since I bought it. I  installed Windows 7 on it with Bootcamp a few days ago and have OSX and Windows side by side.

Suddenly the internet has completely stopped working, it refuses to load websites on any browser.  There's nothing wrong with my network, I have a MacBook Pro which works fine, as well as an iPhone.

I don't think it's a hardware issue either, since when I boot the iMac in Windows and connect to the Wi-Fi, the internet works perfectly.

It's just in OSX. It says it's connected, signal strength is full. Says it has an IP, apparently no issues but the internet just won't work.

I have already done the following:

Rebooted several times. Removed ('forgotten') the network & reconnected. Removed the Wi-Fi location from the Network preferences panel & re-added it. Rebooted by router and cable modem. Switched wireless channel on the wireless router. Tried sharing the internet from my MacBook Pro via Ethernet. Nothing works.

Intel Mac :: Doesn't Connect Automatically To Internet When Boot Up

May 12, 2012

We lost our BT internet connection for a few days. BT eventually sorted it out and it was caused by a problem at the exchange.

Before this, the imac automatically connected to the internet whenever we booted up. Now it doesn't and we have to reconnect to the internet each time we boot up. I don't really know the correct way to do this, but what I am doing to connect is to open Safari which then says it can't connect and offers a diagnostics page where I can then go through a process to reconnect. Then it reconnects fine, buty the next time I boot up I have to go through the same process again.

Intel Mac :: Cannot Connect To MS Exchange Server Using Outlook 2012

Jun 3, 2012

I am running a network using a Time Machine as my DHCP server and Verizon wireless router. I use Microsoft Exchange for email, etc. For hours at a time, my Intel iMac (OS 10.7.4) will not connect to my Exchange Server using Outlook 2012, and I can not connect to the Exchange server using my browsers-Google Chrome or Safari (Outlook web access).I get errors that the server is not available. If I use another computer on my network, like my MacBook, it connects both through Outlook or Web Access in a browser window.

I have the same problem on my iMac whether I connect via ethernet or wireless. Firewall is disabled, using no proxies, etc... The problem may persist for a few hours or a day at a time and will spontaneously resolve-I have tried changing DHCP settings, etc... The problem occurs for all user accounts, and does not seem to differ if multiple users are logged or just one. The Exchange server address is the only web address I seem to have this problem with.

"There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."

If I try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if I write the IP address, like: smb:// it works after couple of tries. MacBook :: Internet Says Have Internet But Wont Connect - Cannot Open System Preferences Or Internet Preferences

May 10, 2009

I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:

Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).

Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.

Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".

If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.

If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.

Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.

Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Connect To Internet Via Ethernet Or Wi-fi / Internet Connects In Safe-mode

Jan 1, 2010

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Cannot Connect To VPN Service Unless Server Is Locally Logged Into

Jun 27, 2012

I work remotely a lot.  After I upgraded to Lion server, I am unable to connect to the VPN service remotely unless I physically go over to the server (mac pro) and log into the desktop manually.

Previously, if my Snow Leopard server restarted (due to power failure, etc) and it re-booted up to the login screen, I could still logon to the VPN remotely as the VPN service would always startup (at the login screen) without a user having to be logging in.

Now, with Lion Server (10.7.4), if the server restarts, I cannot login back to the VPN. I have to get someone to go over to the server and manually login, then I can access VPN just fine. (I do not, and will not turn automatic login on on my server due to the huge security risk.)

How do I get the Lion Server VPN service to startup before or at the logon screen even if no user is logged in?

I am running multiple services with the latest version of OS X Server (10.6.8) on my MacMini (web, vpn, mail, ichat, ical, address book, etc.) . Everything has been working fine for the last year and no changes have been made to the server, settings, ISP, or DNS, with the exception of installing the latest system software updates. Now, when I try to open my websites or connect remotely via VPN I get a "cannot connect to sever" message.  All other services are still working as they should. The server is hooked up to an Airport Extreme via a cable modem with a static IP. I have tried the following thus far:

1) checked all cables and they are plugged in and seated properly.

2) restarted the server, airport extreme, and cable modem

3) turned Web services off and on again in Server Admin

4) checked the DNS via the web and my site addresses are pointing to my static IP address

5) checked the Airport's port mapping to make sure Web Service was still on

6) checked my websites SSL certificate to make sure it's current and enabled

7) tried disabling SSL

8) created and enabled a new self-signed SSL certificate

Mac OS X Lion Server :: "Connect To Directory" In

May 5, 2012

I'm trying to do something fairly simple — allow users from an external LDAP server to access services on my Lion server.  Following Apple's instructions, I can't find the "Connect to Directory" choice in the Manage menu of I always start by turning off OD by using Server Admin to configure as "Standalone Directory". This is what I see in after doing that.

Apple's instructions say if the Manage Network Accounts option appears, you need to first set up the server to host network accounts.  So I click that option, which seems the be the same thing as creating an OD Master using Server Admin, as far as I can tell. Then I try to add a new user. For some reason, the "type" dropdown list exists, and lets me choose "Imported user from directory", even though I haven't setup any other directory server.  Of course, when I search for a username, it finds nothing.Apple's instructions say to now choose "Connect to Directory" from the Manage menu, but that option doesn't show up.  I only have what shows in the screenshot above, sans "Manage network accounts" now.  How can I get this to appear?

Intel Mac :: When Sharing Internet Through Ethernet Wireless Internet Dies

May 22, 2012

For specific reasons, I needed to connect my Synology DS211 NAS to my iMac directly via its ethernet port.  I discovered that if I share my wireless internet connection (coming from my cable modem/wireless router) from wireless to ethernet, then the NAS would get the IP stuff it needed to show up. did that, voila, NAS is acting like a glorified external hard drive.  BUT, when I did that, I lost all internet connectivity on my iMac.  Still have full wireless signal.  preferences pane says I'm fully connected to my network with an IP address, but safari always fails to pull up any webpages, saying I'm not connected to the internet. As soon as  turn off the ethernet PORT, it all starts working again.  And to make it even crazier, I discovered that if I leave sharing my wireless internet via my ethernet port ON, but turn off the ethernet port (in pref pane), I can STILL access the NAS just like before.  That makes no sense - I'm sharing my internet via a port I have turned off, but it works? Anyway, why would Iose my airport wireless internet connection when the ethernet port is on - configured manually?
