Intel Mac :: 2010 Ejects Discs After About 10-15 Seconds?
Mar 3, 2012
I just tried to put a DVD into my iMac and it ejects it after about 15 seconds. I tried another DVD and it does the same! I bought the Mac December 2010 so I no longer have Apple Care. it doesn't need a new drive!

I have never had any problems with this SuperDrive, until I installed Toast last week. I went to burn a disk, and it failed the burn; then after that any kind of disk I inserted into the drive would be ejected.
The drive doesn't even try to read it, nor does it try to spin up whatsoever... I put the disk in, it makes an 'accepting' noise, then less than two seconds later, it rejects it. I'm running 10.6.4, with HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N running AP12 firmware.
Like I said before, the disk drive never had trouble reading anything, but all of a sudden decided to reject every one under the sun.
Restarting in Windows doesn't effect it, nor does inserting a disk before the computer boots. Everything appears normal in diagnostics, but the drive is not even trying to read it.

The Super Drive on my MBP seems to be completely busted, whenever I try to read a DVD or CD it takes the disc in, spins it around a couple of times and then ejects it again without ever coming up with any options as to what to do with the disc. Discs don't appear in Finder either. It's obviously failing to read the discs and ejecting them within 30 seconds.Â
Now I've searched for a solution and as a result I've reset the NVRAM to no avail, and also tried using a CD lens cleaner but that seemed to have no effect either, I guess maybe as it got ejected within just 30 seconds as every other disc does.Â
The next solution I've found online is to delete Finder's preference files. The files I'm supposed to delete are "com.apple.finder.plist" and com.apple.sidebars.plist", however neither of these files appear to exist on my computer. Â
I remember discovering the fault while my MBP was still in warranty but I rarely use the Super Drive so totally forgot about it and it's now out of warranty

my iMac won't read some dvds. Specifically at the moment, a factory Paul McCartney live dvd. When inserted, it tries to read it, whirrs and clunks for about 20 seconds then ejects it. It plays on my old G4 1.2dp and both my bluRay player and dvd players in my lounge. I've had problems like this with dvd-r's before but not with factory made dvd's. Since it plays on my home system and G4 I guess it's not a region issue (I'm in the UK) and I can't find any info on the dvd that says it's any particular region. Other factory dvd's can play fine?

Normal When I insert a DVD or high capacity disc, I can hear it spinning and reading and then eventually ejects the disc. I never get any indication that the computer has read the CD/DVD. No Disc icon ever shows up on the desktop.

I was watching a DVD movie on this laptop yesterday, and when I turned my laptop and this morning to continued watching, the DVD randomly ejected. It's not scratched, and no it's not pirated. I tried different brands of CDs and DVDs, and my laptop just spits them out.

I have an Intel-based iMac desktop that suddenly began to have cd drive issues. Whenever I put any disc into the drive it almost goes all the way in and then it automatically ejects the cd. The cd never goes fully into the drive. My iMac is still under warranty but I really dont want to send it in but I will if I must.

Whenever I place a disc in the drive it spits it out. No matter what disc. I've tried restarting but that didn't work. Just bought this 27" iMac about 2 years ago. I cost me around 2 grand with tax and some stuff the salesmen sold me to go with it like MIcrosoft office. If the drive broke after only 2 years (and I've only used it maybe 10 times in all that time) then I will prob be asking for my money back. I already know that apple will charge me out the @$$ to get it fixed if the drive is broke. I am just hoping that there is something going on software wise that can be fixed. Please help if you have any information reguarding this issue. This is a problem that is holding me back from doing work (a client sent me information via cd) So I am loosing money every day that I do not have my drive working.Â

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

My dvd player has suddenly stopped accepting discs. The disc only goes in half way before it hits something, almost like there was a disc already in there, but there isn't.The previous disc was ejected. Restarting doesn't change anything. It may be that the disc drive itself needs to be replaced, but that would involve a lot of hassle.

I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.Â

I have a late 2009 iMac that came with Snow Leopard, but has been upgraded to Lion via the App store, so I have no recovery discs. I tried reinstalling Lion with the built in recovery, but it did not wipe HD clean. I know I need to erase the HD in Disc Utility, but then I won't have a way to reinstall Lion.

I have a 24" iMac (A1225). I can boot to non-Apple discs (utilities, Windows) and I can even install Windows without any problems. I can't boot to any OS X Install disc however. I have the original 10.5 discs, they don't boot. I have a 10.7 disc that does the same. It starts to boot and makes encouraging noises for a bit but eventually both discs spin down with the Apple logo and the spinning circle which stops.Â
Just for shiggles I tried to boot a couple of custom OSx86 discs (10.6.3 and 10.6.6). They both booted to the installer. 10.6.3 started installing (crashed half-way) but started to boot from the HDD after I restarted it (it didn't go anywhere of course, just the Apple logo). 10.6.6 finished installing but wouldn't boot after it restarted.Â
It seems like there's a hardware issue but the fact that I can boot non-Apple discs and even install Windows without issue makes me doubt that. I have also cleared the PRAM (Option-Command-PR) and ran a quick test in AHT (D) without issues.Â
