I'm thinking about buying one of the new macbooks.I currently have a 2.2ghz (Santa Rosa I think) 15" macbook pro with 2gb of ram and a 128mb 8600gt.If I buy one of the new macbooks will it appear to be slower or faster?How does the 9400 compare to the 8600 128?How much faster is the 2.4 model over the 2.0?Is it worth upgrading the ram to 4gb? Broadband speed checker says i'm now getting 19000kbps down load and 750kbps upload, not bad.
19 meg tops my last result by some 6 meg.
However, the actual page loads are taking considerably longer than my old belkin router.
I'm using safari and wpa security settings (in case it matters).
software is upto date yet my macbook gets slower and slower by the day

I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.

The new Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac has been shown on average to run 40 percent faster than last year's edition, according to people familiar with the matter. Those same people said that the upgrade -- expected to retail for the same $79.99 price as its predecessor -- will also feature Windows boot times that are roughly two times faster than version 3.1 of its primary competitor: VMWare Fusion.
VMware and Parallels have gone head to head in the virtualization market since 2008, when the Fusion product was first introduced. Parallels has existed since 2006, and both products retail for an identical prices. In a recent study, Parallels 5 was already found to be 30 percent faster on average than VMware Fusion 3.
Parallels 6 is also expected to showcase tighter integration with its users' natural environment, adopting support for the Mac OS X's keyboard shortcuts, Spotlight search engine, and Expose windows management features. Similarly, the upgrade will offer the option to automatically apply a Mac's parental controls to their corresponding Windows applications, according to those familiar with the product.
Another major focus for Parallels is said to be gaming. Version 6.0 will reportedly deliver up to two-fold performance improvements while adding support for Dolby 5.1 surround sound and better handling of 3G environments.
Parallels 6 will sport compatibility with an enhanced Parallels Mobile application that will offer users the option of remotely accessing their virtual machines on an iPad, as well as an iPhone or iPod touch.
Parallels Transporter, previously a standalone application that allowed users to migrate a virtual PC image to the Mac, will come built into the new release as well.

My father owns one of the original G5s, so its power pc not intel. Today while browsing an excel spreadsheet he says part of the screen turned black, then the monitor shut off, then the monitor came back on but not video. Mean while the fans started spinning out of control. Now when he tries to turn it on, he gets power, but all that happens is the fans spinning faster and faster and faster until he turns it off. No video or anything. Just speeding fans. He fears the CPUs died since they control the fans. Any suggestions? He also says the fans were spinning unusually fast these last few days.

View 24 Replies View Relatedi bought my macbook 13 inch 2.0 core 2 duo one's about 4 month before they refreshed the line and expanded the ram and slapped pro behind it. now am hearing about the whole snow leopard not running in 64 bit at boot up on the macbooks. i know that the chip is design for 64 bit os'es and i know that the hack with 6 and the 4 key won't work on my computer. but am wondering if the macbook line will ever be able to run mac os x in 64 bit. i mean isn't 4 gb or ram the minimum you need . i know that's how it was on window 7 to run it in 64 bit. i was just thinking now i know why they upgraded the macbook line right before snow leopard. one thing i have noticed is that all the apps that are wrote for 64 bit load much quicker then 32 bit apps.so that got me thinking if apple will ever let snow leopard or above run in 64-bit on the non pro macbook? and if it could be done though an upgrade though software update or though the operating system ? what are you guys/girls thoughts on it?

I dropped my macbook from a height of around six feet. Impressive, especially since there's no physical damage- at least externally. However, whenever I turn it on or wake it up, it makes a sort of choking mechanical sound, like the normal one only louder and more stuttering. It's also the exact same noise every time. This hasn't affected anything except the disc drive, which I can no longer get discs into without them getting hideously scratched. Any ideas on what might have happened/what I can do about it/how mch repairs would be?
Am I just crazy? Or did there used to be 15" MacBooks? I swear there used to be And what ever happened to the black MacBooks? I loved those! They looked much better than the white ones.

I have tried everything possible to connect and allow my wife to print from her MacBook, but everytime she goes to print the job stays in the print queue with the notification 'Holding (Authentification Required) next to it. We both connect to the internet via WiFi, same codes, etc.
Driving me loco. Everything with Macs is just supposed 'to work'. It's just this one final step.

I can connect by using a computer to computer network no problem but problems arise when I want to connect them through my home network. I have set up file sharing on all of the laptops. I have tried using Go => Connect to server, then afp://ip address, nothing. When I click on network in finder, nothing turns up. Do I need to open up ports on my router?
