Hardware :: Need A Recommendation On HDD Enclosure?
Mar 15, 2009
Now, for some reason, it likes to constantly self-cycle, I can hear the hard drives trying to work. I tried USB and it does the same thing. I'm wondering if it's a chipset issue on the OWC enclosure.
I have a seagate 1 TB w/ 32 mb cache in my mac pro as additional backup. I was going to try that in a different enclosure, but I don't want to do that if i'm going to get the same results.
I've never set up a RAID before. I'm about to purchase an 09 MP through Apple and was looking at the Apple and CalDigit RAID cards before I started reading these forums. If the experts are saying that the Areca ARC-1212 works better than both of those at half the price, I'm sold.
Which cooler do you recommend for the HD 4870? I just got my Mac Pro and while it's not dreadfully noisy, I can hear the gpu fan, it hums a bit. I've seen the Thermalright T-Rad2 VGA Coolers - but are they any good for the Ati cards that ship from Apple?
I currently have a MacBook Pro 5,1 2.53 GHz Interl Core 2 Duo. 4GB of Ram. and a 360 GB Hard Drive.
I am wanting to upgrade the Hard drive to a 500-700GB range, can anyone recommend a Hard Drive that would work well with this MacBook Pro? I have read online that while some hard drives are ranked really good, sometimes people have issues when installing in a Mac with clicking sounds, etc.
I currently have an ATI X1900 512 MB cart, PCI express 16-lane slot. I notice the other slots are 4-lane. What would be a good performing videocard ran on this slot? this card is for a 3rd display, and will be for HD video content.
Im looking to upgrade my stock 160GB harddrive in my uMBP and i wanted some feedback on which would be best. I have done some research and have decided on two different models a

just about to get my first Apple, a Mac Pro, and would recommendations on the best webcam for using Skype video on an Apple 23" display ? Any chance of a new iSight appearing in the coming months ?
I'm in need of a new multifunction printer. I'd like it to have Wi-Fi, duplex printing, and a document feeder, but if I can get a wi-fi one really inexpensive, I might be able to do without those luxuries.
I don't need anything with awesome photo capabilities, but would like the wi-fi so I can put it where I want it, not near my MacBook or my router.
I'm looking at HPs (I've used them for the past 10 years), Epson, or Canon. I'm assuming most of them are going to be compatible with Mac OS X, but just would like everyone's input on which model I should get. HP has one for $170, and that's really pushing the high end of my budget, just so y'all know what I'm looking at.
I'm wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for a 22"-24" widescreen monitor. Ideally, it should have VGA, a couple of USB ports, a fairly high resolution, and no more than $350-$400.
one week after restoring my imac from Time Machine, my WD my book decided to die on me, and i need to make a wise decision. my imac is 300 GB, i use a lacie external for crucial files that i want easily available (backup with chronosync) and i want to replace a 500 GB WD.
i looked at the G-tech, but someone said they were having problems with it, and i looked at segate, but then i saw that they were having major problems.
Planning to digitize old family photos for the family and need a good/reliable scanner that. Any recommendations? Software included worth while or are there better packages? Currently have Adobe Photoshop Elements.
I need some advice on good NAS system to stick on my home network. Now this can be bundled with drives or without. I'm inclined to go without drives since more often than not its cheaper to supply your own drives, but anyway, here are some requirements.
For the first time I am using my 24 inch iMac to download some files over night while I sleep , using a download manager, ( Speed Download ) and wondered what would be the best settings to use would be on the Energy Saver settings panel

Can anyone recommend some pads like Wacom? And what are some good uses for them, I've never used one but ive been looking at one for maybe something like cad?
I'll be picking up an iPhone 4 sometime this week and I'd love to try out the Facetime Beta with my girlfriend. She has a late 2007 Mac Mini and thus no built-in iSight camera. If anyone can recommend a handful of webcams at around the $50 price point I'd be very appreciative.
My boss has a photo server in his office that is at least 111GB in size. He wants all of these images to be in the iPhoto library on seven different computers. Previously, when new images were received from him or his family, they'd be put into the server then manually added to every computer.
What I'm trying to see is possible is to have each computer pull new files from the server automatically whenever new files are added. The reason being, he likes to see all of the server photos as a slideshow for his screen savers. Asinine, I know but that's what he wants.
The previous method has proved a nightmare because there are varying images across all computers and no two libraries are the same. iPhoto isn't great at handling the massive amount of data and I'm always having to Force Quit just to get it to work but I'm being forced into a corner. I have access to five of the seven Macs on a regular basis but if I can just have something do the grunt work for me, I'd be in a much better place. And isn't that what computers are for?
I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a decent monitor (around 22"-24") that accurately represents color for editing. Right now I'm using a 13" Macbook and an LG 24" monitor, but the monitor really oversaturates reds, so it just doesn't work. Please keep in mind that I do calibrate both my Macbook and editing monitor, so I'm really just looking for a good quality monitor that doesn't oversaturate anything and can be accurate once calibrated. I've heard that Dell makes some pretty good ones, and of course the Apple Cinema Displays are great, but is there anything in the $200-300 range?
relatively new mac user here - and was wondering if anyone could suggest a password keeper program that I could use across 3 formats - Mac 10.6, PC - Vista and the iphone. I keep them in an excel file today and would like to have something a bit easier to acces.
Our internal drive for iMac is dying. I am looking for recommendations (seem to only have older ones on the boards) for an external DVD burner/drive (blu-ray not required) that we can use for a while.
I want to buy a cord that will hook up from my Laptop (Macbook Pro) to my TV. I've already checked and my TV does have a HDMI port.Im just not sure where I can buy a HDMI cable or which one.
I need to take a photograph or image and make it a link to a URL! Preview does not work properly with all platforms! CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND AN APP OR PROGRAM WHICH WILL DO THIS, PDF OR OTHER IMAGE FILE IS OK Some type of PDF editor maybe? Ive read descriptions of almost every app in mac app store but the one i found that says it links to the web had terrible reviews and people said it does not work?

It is time to replace the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card that came with this computer. I am wanting to upgrade to something that will allow me to play Diablo 3. Any suggestions from as to what I need to upgrade to? I understand that there are a lot of differences as to which card will work in which machine. I just don't know the difference
