So I got my 24" Cinema Display 2 weeks ago and just noticed this backlight bleeding on the bottom right and its really pissing me off when I watch movies or use frontrow.Does anyone know the best way to go about with an exchange or something?
View 9 RepliesI've had my new 13" MBP for about a month now and I am noticing what looks like backlight bleeding spots at the bottom of my screen. It is most noticeable on the bottom left and appear blue-ish on a black screen at maximum brightness. It is getting irritating when I am watching movies at night. I have the 9CBD screen. Others have said they have no problems with this screen model. So is this normal or is it a defect? If it is a defect, what can I do to fix this? My 14 day grace period is over, so I'm assuming an easy exchange at the Apple Store is out of the question?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have not seen any posts comparing these two symptoms together, but I am wonding if both exist on the same screens, or if they are infact seperate issues. I returned a 27" iMac i7 because it had both slight yellowing and terrible backlight bleeding. I have seen multiple machines first hand (3 Core 2 Duos week 41s) at different stores (Apple and Best Buy) that had no yellowing and no backlight bleeding. I won't get into how to check for yellowing, you can read about that issue here: [URL]
But to check for backlight bleeding is both easy and impossible not to see if you have it. To check for backlight bleeding, a quick way is to bring up a site like http://www.blackle.com/ or any other black background, and check for an inconsistent white glow on the edges of your screen. I had serious backlight bleeding in the lower corners of my screen, which happens to be where the yellowing was happening. I don't know if they are related, but hopefully we can determine if there is any correlation here.
I did order a second machine, because I know Apple knows how to make a 27" iMac with a perfect screen (as advertised), since I have seen 3 of them in the wild. Hopefully they will be back to the quality that they had is their early production units very soon.
How common is this? I prefer darker backgrounds and this may be an issue.I'm over the yellow and the buzzing, but this too? Don't take me the wrong way - I love my Macs but I can't say I'm crazy about this..See attachment. Ignore the image noise, the big spot that bothers me is on the top to the right.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got a new 1.6 MBA but it is going back tomorrow. It has screen bleeding showing like mountains on the bottom and top of the screen. In addition, it is HOT (CPU 63-83 C). Way hotter than what I tested at the store (CPU 40-60 C). In addition, it has a tiny flicked (ripped) paint at the back which I am somehow ok with. I just wanted to share this with you and know if any of you facing similar issues? I have never ever seen screen bleeding in MBAs before since the MBA has the "best" screen ever. I hope that I'll get a better replacement.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am actually trying to decide if to get the old 30" cinema display or not.I'm a graphic designer and my fear is that apple will never make a matte display...Here in Italy it's still sold in the apple store. I have the unibody macbook pro, and so I've been reading through reviews now for a week ... my biggest concern is the dual-link dvi adapter... I still see posts (August or September 2010) with people experiencing issues, even with the firmware 1.3!I wanted to ask you people if I should go for it or dig the 27 inch even though it's glossy... I have a few people in the office (also graphic designers) working on iMacs and got used to the glossy.

I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPurchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

I am considering buying a Wacom Contiq 24 HD screen/tablet and would like to know if the Radeon 2600 will drive both or will I need a second graphics card? I am thinking of updating my home studio setup which is currently running a Macbook pro 13" 2.26 with 4gb of ram. I was first thinking of upgrading to an iMac with a 3.06Ghz processor and 27" display. However, I now think I might be ok staying with my MacBook and upgrading to one of the two displays;- The 30" Cinema display- Or the 24" Cinema LED displayAt nearly half the price I am leaning towards the 24" display. I am using logic and ableton. What does everyone think and anyone had any experiences running logic and or ableton with a MacBook and display.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting
The reason I am asking is that I am using a Spyder colorimeter to calibrate my monitor and it is asking me which controls exist on the display:
-brightness
-contrast
-backlight
My thinking is that F1 and F2 control the backlight level and not the "brightness" level, if you get what I mean.

I've recently upgraded from a 1st generation MacBook to the 15" Unibody Macbook Pro and I'm having a great deal of trouble adjusting to the difference between the LED backlit internal display, and my Samsung 22" external monitor. I've probably spent about 8 man-hours going through the display calibrator, and through SuperCal, on both devices, and I can't seem to get a consistent color between both displays. Am I doomed to madness? Will I have to spend money on either a hardware calibration device, or on an LED backlit external monitor? Has anyone else solved this?

Now, i've read that the LED Display uses glossy display compared to the Cinema Display? Also, it's completely my own opinion, but the older Cinema Display seems to be looking more nice also having one-coloured.
The technical specifications are in favour of LED Display of course, but taking into account the glossy display, less attractive design and so on... Which one would you get?
I've got two iMacs in my posession currently from getting replacement machines. Both have screen issues as follows: iMac A - dead & stuck pixels, feint grey horizontal bar running along bottom portion of screen, bottom left corner has noticeable backlight bleed. iMac B - dead & stuck pixels, yellow tinge in bottom portion of screen. So here are my questions. Which iMac should I keep and submit for repair? (does it matter and why or why not?) How does the actual repair get done? For example, if I submit iMac B for repair, could I end up with a grey bar or backlight prob like in iMac A?
Are there multiple layers to the display when they fix specific issues? For example, let's say the dead pixels are on one layer while the yellow tinge is on a different layer, or are both issues on the same layer? I ask because if there are two or more separate layers, there is more of a chance to mess up so I may want to submit the iMac that has the least amount of issues.
Lastly and most importantly, has anyone submitted their iMac for screen repair for these issues and got it back 100% repaired? (no dead/stuck pixels, yellowing, grey bar, backlght bleed) These are #4 and #5 in terms of the number of replacements I've gotten now and I'm sick of it so I may opt to go for repair on either of these existing machines instead of going for replacement #6. But do you think a 6th replacement would be better than going for repair on either of these? Or not?
My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there are people in these forums who have an Apple LED Cinema Display hooked up to a PC with a Mini-DP to DVI converter. My question is, how do you guys adjust the brightness of the display? Is it always just left at max brightness? Does the LED Cinema retain the display brightness of the last time it was used... for example, if I hooked up a Macbook Pro to it first, turn the brightness down to halfway, and then hooked up my PC, would the brightness then be at half instead of full?

I had a 23" cinema display that was repaired by Apple and then manhandled by UPS (multiple times, actually). Apple is sending me a new 27" LED display. My computer is the original Mac Pro 1,1 with an nVidia 8800gt and as of right now, I have no way of connecting the two. I would like to just upgrade my video card to one with mini display. I have heard that the converters are either unreliable or don't work at all.

So, I am curious how the new Air will run an external monitor, and whether it has enough juice to at least display the HD movies shot with a DSLR without dropped frames/jerkiness. (I guess I am asking two questions in one).
